Donate them to a daycare or elementary school. They can use them to cut out animals and words to make collages
I have a TON of old National Geographice magazines. Does anyone have any ideas what to do with them ? I know I can put them into one of the recycling bins at the schools but thought I would explore any options for donating them somewhere. Do you know if any of the shelters could use them ? Thanks !

It's been a long while since I looked there for them but Half Price Books used to have a healthy supply of National Geographic. They might want to buy them from you.
Contact your local public school and ask to speak with someone in the Geography or Social Studies Department. They may love to have them as resources or as reading material for kids with free time during class. If they don't want them, the Art Department might want them to use to make collages.
See if middle school or high school will take them for student use.
Check with your local nursing homes or retirement centers.... I'll bet they would love to have them! The seniors love to look at magazines.
A local school library or branch library may want them. Also, a lot of artists use them for projects. Good luck! :)
You can join www.Freecycle.com and offer to give them to someone on there. Many teachers and others would be willing to drive to the location of your choice and pick them up. We have given away many things on Freecycle. It's awesome!
Good luck! B.
If you know a teacher at the school who would use them that would be a great option. We always take them apart and laminate the pictures to use when teaching about a topic like penguins etc. I would hate for them to get thrown away though and I can see that happening. But they are such a great learning tool when used right.
I am a social studies teacher and I love to use them for projects, etc. They are a great resource. I would definitely try to donate them to a school. If you didn't want to do that I would happily pick them up from you to use in my classroom.
Maybe a nursing/retirement/senior living home would be a good place for them. Schools primarily use them for projects.
You might check to see if Half Price Books has a market for them. They buy books and magazines for re-sale.
Donate them to the library. You get a tax deduction.
You could probably get a tax deduction if you donated to the school as well. I am sure any librarian would love to have them in the collection, umm...(FOR CHILDREN AT A SCHOOL)
The public libraries in Plano sell old magazines. I donate all of my mags there, except Cosmo (some people think it is too risque) and get a deduction.
Umm, no i know our library would put them straight to the bookstore to sell, so just take it to them. we wouldn't use them for our collection at all.
You might try some of the assisted living or the nursing homes also. They seem to enjoy them.
Half Price Books pays for all old books and mags, but they def pay for NatGeos.
As the Director of a Child Development Center, we have had some donated and they are a priceless gift to add to our cirriculum. So, think about that. Little children do not always have that gift and what knowledge they hold!
