Obese Mom Looking for a Sympathetic Gyne for Pap in Chicagoland

I go to Dr. Mario C. Yu, M.D. His office is located in Oak Brook, and he is a very nice person. I was obese when I got pregnant,(I started my pregnancy at 295) and he never said one word about any weight gain, (including a 11 pound gain in one month!). He has never one said a word about my weight except one time, and that was when we were talking about getting my tubes tied and he said because of my weight, it would be difficult.

I'm sorry to hear of the treatment you rec'd. I absolutely love my ob/gyn. He is out of Women's Healthcare of Hinsdale. Dr. Kett. There are many others in the practice including 2 females - they are all fantastic. I would be shocked if you rec'd that kind of treatment from them. Good Luck!!

I'm so sorry you have had to go through that. What a horrible thing for a doctor to do at your most vulnerable momment. I have used doctor Ryan in Orland park in the past. (I am an overweight person myself) He was never rude about my weight. He is part of OB/GYN and Associates. The number is ###-###-####, a second number is ###-###-####.

First off I am very sorry that you have faced hostile attitudes. I see Carolyn Mills at Fox Valley women's and children's Health Partners in Geneva and Aurora. She is top in patient care.Although she has a very busy practice, I feel she is worth the wait.

I see Dr Cynthia Page, she is out of Elmhurst. I have seen 4 out of the 5 gynes in that office and they are all wonderful. Dr. MacDuff is the one who delivered my son and is very relaxed and seems to truly care about his patients! They are out of Elmhurst Clinic ###-###-####!

I totally second Dr Dunn. I don't have those type of problems but she is awesome! I saw her for almost every appointment and she delivered my son and I work with many different OBs. All of her group is female and very nice. I can't imagine any of them making comments like that.

Dr. Druhan at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora. She is an excellent doctor... very personable and professional. Good luck. I know how hard it is to find a doctor your comfortable with.

Hi Mom A, Maybe you can look at web sites for a physician referral at your local hospitals. You may be able to tell through their pictures if they have a weight problem ao they will be empathetic hopefully. Just a thought and even though I am thin I hateeee going for a pap so embarassing. I was overweight when I got pregnant, and my friend was obese, but the midwives that we saw still encouraged us and never said anything about me needing to lose weight. They are Patricia and S. at West Suburban Women's Health in Willowbrook. 630-654-BABY. All of the doctors and everyone there are INCREDIBLE. I hope that you can have the same experience.

Dr. Jones at Ruush Copley Hospital in Aurora. She is certainly not fat herself, but no skinny minny either, awesome personality, and will not make you feel bad if you overweight. I am a size 18, so I am definately a big girl.

I don't have a doctor to recommend but I had to reply because I cannot believe you've been treated so poorly because of your weight. Then I read one of your replies and saw that another mom had the same experience. Unbelievable!

Better yet, try Dr. Amy Gaunt in Downers Grove. She was my doctor 1998-2007. I'm only switching because I'm not having anymore kids and I feel comfortable looking for a doctor close to home. I don't recall Dr. Gaunt's phone # but check yoru insurance company to see if she's in your network.

Hi Mom A. I'm sorry to hear about some of your past experiences. I read Theresa K's reply and that she sees Dr Khazen in Lisle ... well I also go to that practice and have been seen by all the doctors and really like them. Dr Jennifer Dunn is my OB-GYN and has been since I became pregnant with my 3-yr old daughter. Dr Dunn is very sweet. I was never heavy but since becoming a SAHM I've really put on the pounds so when I had my yearly exam with her I told her about my weight concerns and she was very comforting. I would totally recommend her!!!

Well I would consider myself obese and have had great experiences for years with Dr, Bray, Dr. Mar and Dr. Brusca in Orland Park. They deliver out of Palos and Christ Hopital. They have added a woman to their practice but I am sorry I am unsure of her name. I weould definetely go there you will be very happy with the entire staff. Maybe look them up on-line as well.

These names have already been suggested, but I would reccomend Dr. Bray, Mar, and Brusca in Orland. They are great, their staff is always very nice. Also, Dr. Ryan and Dr. Boysen of OB/GYN Health Associates in Orland are awesome. The nurses are amazing and the entire staff are very nice. You would not have any problems with them...

I share your worries. I have never had an Ob/Gyne say anything about my weight in a negative or crude way. The Dr is part of Dupage Obstetric and Gynecology, Dr Macek. He is a great Dr., very kind and focused, detail oriented. The group has many physicians and I have dealt with Dr. Hay, Dr. Larry and Dr. Macek,as well as a NP. They have offices in Carol Stream , Warrenville and another office further west of Aurora, maybe one more. I highly recommend them. Good luck in your search. I hope this has helped.

I too am sorry to hear of your past experiences. I have a GREAT doc. in Hinsdale, Dr. Steven Daube. His practice is called OMG Women's Healthcare. He is the only doctor in the practice and he practices with 2 nurse midwives, who are also wonderful. They are all very caring and respectful. I would highly recomend their practice! Two days a week he sees patients in Bolingbrook too. I have been seeing him for 3 years now and he recently delivered my second baby and it was a wonderful experience. I have had the SAME problem where I leave the office in tears!
I am seeing a woman gyne now and was upfront that I didn't need to hear any of it, it isn't like I am not aware of it each and every day! I used to see Dr. Lindgren (male) at Palos Community Hospital, he was very nice and even helped with my fertility problems. I now see Dr. Khazen (Fem) although she is an internal medicine dr. she does my routine paps. in Lisle. If you need more information please let me know. Dr. Feingold (male) in Naperville delivered my son, and even telling him my problems with my past gyne, he had the gull at my 6 week (after baby) appointment to state "well I am going to call your physician and get see what we can do to get you to lose some weight." I was so embarassed. I only gained 8 pounds with my son and lost it all and then some after is perfectly healthy birth. I didn't develop diabetes or high blood pressure- until the end of my pregnancy when the stress of driving from Naperville to Lake Zurich got too much for me thats just enough to get a little higher blood pressure levels.
