Needing a Double Stroller Recommendation

I have a 3 month old and a 2 year old. I need a double stroller that is relatively small and easy to manage. Considering a "Sit n Stand" or a Phil & Ted's Stroller (although yikes, this one is pricey). Are all double strollers huge? Please say no.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the great feedback. I ended up buying a Maclaren Twin Techno stroller because it's lightweight, smaller than others, only $200, and I can use it immediately with my 3 month old (no carseat needed). It arrives tomorrow and I look forward to taking my kids for a hassle-free walk.

I absolutely love my BOB double stroller. It has shocks, off road tires, and it has a fixed and swivel front tire. It was definitely worth every cent

I have a Joovy Caboose that has barely been used. I am willing to sell it to you for a good price if you're interested. I have a 5 year old and one year old. My 5 yr. old was too big for it, and that's the main reason we didn't use it much. I think it would be better for a 2 or 3 year old and a baby. Just e-mail me if you'd like to check it out. I live in Burbank, by the way. ____@____.com

I have been shopping for a double as well. My daughter will be 2 and a half when my baby is due in Feb. We are trying to see if the sit and stand stroller will work but as you said everyone seems HUGE. We are buying the phil and teds running stroller for the obvious reason, but I dont know if they fold up well for us as a traveling everyday stroller. I've been told the Combi's fold up really small..but I have also been told that the Combi's just dont last and start falling apart pretty quickly. I am hoping to find a stroller base with the sit and stand that you just attach the carrier to. Anyhow, I'll be definatly coming back to check out what folks tell you. Good luck in your search.

We have the sit n stand. It is fine for walking around town, but does not fit in our car. We have a Toyota Prius, so the trunk is smaller. Also, now that my 4 year old is pushing 40 pounds, it is getting harder to push. I find it easier to either wear the baby and let the 4 year old ride the umbrella stroller, or let the baby ride and the older one walk.

I bit the pricey bullet when my daughter was 5 months and son just over two. The Phil & Ted's is worth every penny!!! Just do it, you'll be glad you did.
BTW, I gave one of those Sit n Stands a try before buying the Phil & Ted's. Too long, my son didn't want to sit or stand on the back and it never really seemed safe.
Good Luck.

I don't know what I would do without my Phil and Teds with extra seat attachment in the back - seriously the best money I have ever spent. I got it new on ebay, which seems like the best price. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and got it when my second was an infant. They say that the older child goes in the fron with the little one in the back, but mostly my older child sits in the back since she get in and out herself. I can't tell you how many times both kids nap at the same time in this stroller - it is wonderful.

We looked at the sit and stand, but it is huge and didn't even fit in the back of our small car. The Phil and Teds is really compact and easy to break down.Anyway, can you tell I am happy with it?

Phil and Ted's E3 is not much larger than a single stroller, fits one or two comfortably, and has been great for my kids. Also, you can still use it as a single when you just have one kid with you or the older kid no longer wants to be in a stroller. I can do navigate it by myself with one hand.

Hi R., How much walking are you going to do? We bought the Peg Perego and it is very lightweight and easy to open and close. We use it for quick runs to the mall, but it does not maneuver well. We moved to Japan in January and bought the Jane Powertwin which was amazing. We didn't have a car in Japan and our Jane was our vehicle and we would swear by it if you'll use it a lot. It's heavy for getting in and out of cars, but steers REALLY well and is comfortable for the kids and you. I also just saw the Valco which looks great, but is pricey and we don't need 3.

I had a sit n stand. It was wonderful, but yes, it was pretty big. We drive a Kia Spectra 5, and it took up the entire cargo space.

My friend has a new sit & stand & it seems tiny compared to my Graco Duo Glider, and it's SO easy to push around! But, my husband will KILL me if I but another stroller & I like snapping the baby carrier into the duo glider. I also have a side-by-side jogger which is huge, but I have a mini van & both the strollers are easy to fold & throw in the back, so I'm not too bothered by how much room they take up.

I have two girls, a 2.5 year and a 4 month old, and am trying to figure out my best option for double strollers. I have the baby trend sit and stand and do not like it much. It is OK for the zoo or when my husband is pushing, but otherwise I find myself avoiding using it. It is long but is also very difficult to turn when you have all the weight in it. I am thinking of buying a double jogger so that I will get back into walking around the neighborhood...because I will NOT talk walks with the sit and stand. I see that people suggest the Phil and Ted, but I think the kid in the back would get tired of looking at the other seat?!?!? Anyone know anything about the double BOB? I think the pivoting front wheel would be a help.

I use the side by side double stroller by jeep. I posted a site that shows the picture of it. The seats lay back slightly, enough so either child could sleep comfortably. It folds down very easily and is compact, like an umbrella stroller. I have an 8 month old and an almost 4 year old. I used the stroller though when my youngest was a lot younger and it worked out fine. There are a couple things I would suggest though. If you hang a diaper bag off the back of it, remove the bag before getting the kids out. I had a larger stroller before and used to hang a diaper bag from the back with no worries, and when I switched, old habits kicked in and the stroller flipped back when my oldest stepped out. No worries, the baby is fine, I caught the stroller quickly. Also, it is wide, and a little harder to get in some areas, but so far, I've conquered through that. Anyways, it's inexpensive too. I also agree with what another mama said, look around at garage sales or in the recycler. biggerhttp://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3765493

I think the side by side ones seem larger than the front to back ones. With my kids when they were small enough for a stroller I had the front to back one. I put the baby in the back so my 2 year old wouldn't kick him. heh. And yeah just wiggling around sometimes he would accidently kick the baby if the baby were in front. Plus the back one would lay down if you wanted it to, totally lying down position and the front was always sitting up. I eventually sold it at a yard sale for like 5 bucks or something a few months back cuz it was taking up garage space. My kids are 5 and 7 now and we aren't having any new additions so no need for it. I'd check yard sales, seriously. Or the paper for a used one. It would be a lot cheaper and they don't get used as much as you'd think so it'd be almost new.

Hi R.,
I don't know about the new crop of strollers (mine is 4 years old) but I have a Combi side by side. My 4 and 6 year old still can use it. It is very lightweight and folds umbrealla style. It goes through all doors (same width as a wheelchair). The only problem I have is that it doesn't have much storage underneath.
If you aren't opposed, try the Second Hand stores for them. You can find them practically new for less than 1/2 price.
Good luck,
H.
