I am going to have an infant soon and my daughter will be too young for the sit and stand double stroller. Does anyone have any advice on what type of double stroller I should get? Is side by side better or tandem? certain brands?

What can I do next?

I would recommend a double tandem for more mobility. I have 4 children - all about 2 years apart - I have the side by side Combi, which I like, but the tandem is easier to get through the aisles :)

I also like the single with one strapped to my back :)

Best Wishes!

Don't get the side by side. It's nice for outdoor activities but forget it in a store the isles are not wide enough.

I love my Graaco double stroller that I got from Johnson's in SLO. It's the cute fabric that I wanted and I've had it for 2 years and it still works perfectly! I would highly recommend a Graaco double stroller.

Depends on what you are going to do more with, will you be walking, running, traveling, etc.. after many wasted dollars I finally went with the BOB Revolution Double and I LOVE it. Best money we ever spent! Go to www.joggermom.com (local Mom with triplets!) who has her own online stroller store - she has lot's of great information!

Congratulations!

Hi A.! The search for the perfect stroller is so tedious. I recently had my second and we did our share of shopping and ordering and returning strollers. I found the perfect one online from Target, it's called Baby Trend Deluxe Sit 'n Stand Silverado. It's a one behind the other stroller and there is the option for two seats or the sit and stand. It's folds up pretty compact for a duo stroller and maneuvers easily even when carrying my baby's carseat, my three year old and a diaper bag or groceries in the bottom. The only bad thing is it's a little hard to access the storage space on the bottom. You just have to remove the strap and put in stuff from the side or from behind. If you have the back seat out, you can put stuff in from the top easily. I have a Graco baby carseat and it fits fine in the front or the back if the seat is removed. It costs about $160.00 but it's worth it! Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi A.,

I would recommend the Phil & Ted's Sports Buggy. I had the Phil & Ted's E3 but I looked and it seems to be discontinued. This stroller is the best one that I've owned. It handles well. I would not recommend a side by side stroller as you will have trouble going shopping in narrow aisles. Front and back strollers seem to be the best all around. This one folds up nicely and fits into my Prius. It can be costly as each attachment that you may want adds up. But what I would do is check on used ones on craigslist. You will get more bang for your buck. I still have mine and plan on selling it but I'm not sure when yet. Good luck!

I think the smartest thing you can do is go lightweight. And test drive. There are several out there, Combi, Peg etc. I have twins and used the combi twin savvy. LOVED it! It is pricy tho, i paid $330 on target.com 4 years ago. It is a side by side, very light and folds so small. There are pros and cons to having a side by side or a tandem. With most side by sides now you can fit thru any doorway, so that shouldnt be an issue. For you, having a young toddler next to the baby could be an issue with a side by side, not keeping her hands of etc. The graco duo glider (tandem) is just so large and cumbersome. But if you want the baby away from your toddler then that could be a major selling point for a tandem. My sister has the phil and teds with that little jump seat in the back/bottom and hers tips over when getting a kid out. She has to be very mindful of which kid she gets out first, I cant remember if it is the kid in front or the kid on the bottom, but whatever the case, to me it is dangerous. There are things she loves about it and things she doesnt love. So my advice is to narrow it down and then check them all out, test drive them. Babies R us seems to have a decent selection of strollers. But for a Phil and Teds I think you will have to go to a high-end specialty store. Good luck!

The BOB Double Jogger is the BEST - No Question. Even if you don't jog, it is light weight and easy to move. Before we had our 2nd child, we had a single joger (not a BOB) and the BOB double jogger is lighter then the single one we had. We have since given our single jogger away and if I only have 1 of the kids, I still put them in the double. It is pricey (about $500) but well worth it.

Good Luck.

I have actually had both types of strollers and preferred the tandem. The side by side was great for the zoo and outdoor areas, however, when going to the store and running errands where I was going to be indoors for a period of time (bank, stores, boutiques) the side by side was too wide for aisles and hard to manuever. The only drawback with the tandem was its size and although it folded down it was difficult to get into the car. I had a small car - but it fit into our Tahoe just fine.

I just saw the best double stroller when I was out the other day... it's actually the Phil and Ted E3 sport stroller with the toddler seat attachment... but I just looked it up and it's $400. That's not including the toddler attachment. But it was almost as compact as a single with an actual seat for the older child. I'll be looking into something similar in the near future!

Hi A.,

I have two kids: 18-month, and 8-weeks. My husband and I recently purchased a double stroller made by Sit N Stand (you can find it on babytrend.com). Our son is too young for a regular Sit N Stand, but with this stroller, there are 2 "full" seats, and it will also later convert to a sit n stand later on as he gets older. My infant's carrier fits/snaps into this stroller as well.

Hope this helps!

I have a BOB double jogger...I love it. It is easy to maneuver and is great even if you aren't jogging. We use it at amusement parks, fairs, malls, and for my walking class as well.

I'm w/ Raelen W. on the Sit N Stand. I have it and love it. It's not as wide as a side by side and it offers the option of the two full seats, which is really nice for a "younger" older sibling who can't handle the jump seat yet.

Good luck!

I have the Phil and Teds E3. I love it! My kids are now 3 1/2 and 14 months and they still ride in it if I go for a walk and they are totally fine with it. The deal with this stroller is you have to purchase the back seat for when the baby is older and able to sit safely. The whole system is expensive (around $500 for the stroller and back seat) but totally worth it. I wish I would have started with it in the beginning when I had my first baby. It is tandum and the infant will use a bassinet of sorts until he/she is old enough to ride in the seat. Check out their website. I purchased mine at Baby Emporium on Cooke Street downtown.

I absolutely love the Duoglider by Graco. I have 2 beautiful boys ages 3 and 1, who are very big for their age. The sit and stands were not going to work. I tried many strollers out but fell in the love with this one. My family has been using it for a year now and still going. My boys haven't out grown it. It is easy to manuver, even with one hand and folds easily. It is a little heavier then others but not too bad. Plus I love that graco has tons of cool features on this stroller and lots of matching accessories... not too expensive. Hope this helps.

I am a stroller fanatic- I don't know why, but I keep buying & trying out new strollers all the time. Right now I am very happy with my Graco Dual Glider for shopping & errands- it's a tandem & fits through doors easily, and my InStep jogging stroller for taking walks & going to outdoor events (great for the pumpkin patch!)- it's a side by side & has a front wheel that swivels & two big storage baskets, which I love. When looking for a stroller, I care most about how it folds, how easy it is to push (the InStep is amazingly easy- go for the swivel front wheel if you get one!), how comfy the kids are in it (the Graco can snap my baby's carseat into it), and how many parent/storage accessories it comes with. I have a mini van, so any stroller can fit into it, but you might want to consider trunk space as well.

Dear A.,

My only comment is that my cousin hated her sided by side - it was hard to get through store aisles - this was a long time ago, don't know if they are any better now. I had a Graco and used to put my infant seat in the back seat - loved it, though it wasn't made for that - you might look for one that comes with an infant seat . . . I used my double long after I needed it - it was handy for carrying bags when shopping . . .

Good luck!

Hi Amy-
My kids are 20 months apart and I have been through the gambit of strollers. Honestly, I feel that today you can probably have one stroller for all your activities (running, walking, shopping, zoo, errands, etc.) My suggestion would be the BOB Double Revolution. It is light, fits through a standard doorway, has an independant front wheel and able to steer with two fingers. I would also suggest the Baby Jogger Double Urban. Although if you are any kind of runner or power walker, you would be thrilled with the BOB. I agree with Michelle, the best way to purchase this stroller is through www.Joggermom.com. She has the best service and probably most knowledgeable stroller mom I have ever met. Plus she has great extras, usually in stock. When you baby is born, she also had the infant carrier bar which attached perfectly to the BOB. I have had a Baby Jogger Twinner (2x), Schwinn Double, Baby Trend Double and Graco double. My absolure favorite is the BOB.
I hope this helps. Good luck and Congratulations.

We had the Graco Duoglider tandem stroller. I liked that the infant car seats snapped onto the top, and then when they outgrew those, they could just sit in the regular seats. Also, no problem fitting through doors like some of the side-by-side strollers.
