I am a product of Gwinnett County Schools and I taught in Gwinnett County for 5+ years. Areas that are good: Norcross (Simpson Elem./Pickneyville Middle)-this is the cluster I would live in if I still lived in Gwinnett it is often referred to as Peachtree Corners; Duluth/Peachtree Ridge; North Gwinnett; Brookwood; Parkview.
Stay away from Meadowcreek/South Gwinnett/Central Gwinnett (okay) areas

Where are you moving? Did you decide yet? I'm not sure if you can answer to these responses but I would love to discuss with you in detail what I think about the schools and the area. I have a fresh perspective because I moved from California 4 years ago and I am moving back in May. I live in Suwanee and it is an amazing place for a family to raise a child. I recommend Riverside Elementary highly. What a great experience we had there. The problem in this area, is schools separate a lot and depending on where you live you can get thrown into a school that you had not anticipated and it sounds like nobody is giving you the heads up about that. Since moving to Gwinnett my son has attended 4 schools in four years! So if there is a way to spare you that try and contact me. Good Luck!

A cluster is the term the county uses to refer to a high school and the schools that feed into it. So that would include the elementary and middle schools that are in the zone for the high school.
I believe all the schools have their test results and demographics on the school website. Hoping this doesn't sound racial, but I think that you'll find the higher the Hispanic population, the worse the school is performing. The higher the Asian and Caucasian population, then the higher the test scores and more parent involvement you'll find.
I would stay away from the schools by 78 and stay closer to 85. Parkview area in Lilburn is still good, but starting to change. So it depends on how long you plan to be in the area/age of your kids. Peachtree Ridge and North Gwinnett are good. I agree you should avoid Berkmar, Meadowcreek. The Norcross recommendation surprises me. But I haven't had contact with anyone at that school in a while. It might have improved.
Good luck!

I am in gwinnett county and moved here 5 years ago. We live in lawrenceville and are zoned gwin oaks elementary, five forks middle, brookwood high. Brookwood and Parkview high schools are well known and big on football competition. Parkview is I think zoned for Lilburn area. I don't know what other information you are looking for. My little ones are only 3 & 1 so I don't have any other opinion other than word of mouth from people.

The Brookwood Cluster is one of the best cluster of schools in Gwinnett County. A cluster of schools is a group of elementary and middle schools that all feed into the same high school. The Brookwood cluster has great schools with lots of parental involvement. The elementary schools are Head Elementary, Brookwood Elementary, Gwin Oaks Elementary and Craig Elementary. The middle schools are Five Forks Middle School and Cruise Middle School. The High School is Brookwood High School. The neighborhoods are in the Lawrenceville area mostly in the 30044 zipcode area, Some are in the outer parts of Lilburn and Snellville. This is my school district.

Another great cluster is the Parkview Cluster. They include Knight Elementary School, Camp Creek Elementary, Trickum Middle School and Parkview High School. Not sure of the other schools but these schools are the best ones in this district. The neighborhoods are a bit older and are in the Lilburn Area. They also have great parental involvement.

Good luck with your move. You will definitely be happiest with these two clusters of schools in Gwinnett County. I am shocked by the person recommending Norcross and by the one saying do not move into Brookwood. They have maybe confused Brookwood with Berkmar.

Brookwood and Parkview are long standing excellent schools in Gwinnett County. They do not have as much re-districting as the newer areas with new schools being built. I have lived in the Brookwood district for 17 years. It still remains one of the best. The re-sale value of homes is a bit higher and the homes are easier to sell due to people wanting to move into this school district.

Hi. I am a product of the Gwinnett County School System, but much has changed since 10-15 years ago when I was there. My sister-in law has siblings who attend Mill Creek, and she says it is still a good place to go. I have friends who teach at Dacula who seem to enjoy it. These two high schools are in reasonably close proximity to Mall of GA and I-85; I am not sure where you are looking to live, and it is a large county. My best friend taught second grade at Simpson until recently; she left because many of her students didn't speak English and the school refused to help cover her costs to learn Spanish. (She couldn't cover the cost herself, since she was already paying student loans for her Masters) She didn't feel like the school was looking out for the children as much as it should have been, and it seemed to be having funding issues. She said that there are some great teachers there, though. I would definitely avoid South Gwinnett, Brookwood, Shiloh, Berkmar, MeadowCreek, Central Gwinnett and Grayson. According to a friend who is a school social worker there, they have problems with gangs and a large population of displaced/homeless students. I think the Peachtree Ridge area schools are supposed to be good, but I am not sure. The website www.schooldigger.com can provide you with tons of information from number of students to test scores to neighborhood crime statistics. It is generally pretty accurate. Hope this helps!
