Necklace Holder?

I am looking for an inexpensive way to create something to hang my daughters necklaces on. They are currently hanging on nails and we just painted her walls and want to make it look nicer. If you have an idea, I would love to hear.

What can I do next?

I bought a cork board for my daughter, and different color push pins. You can hang necklaces, her rings, and you can also just stick her earings right in the board. I have a little box to keep all the backings in. That way she doesn't have to look in a jewelry box, because everything is right in front of her. Let me know if this works for you, my daughter is 10, she loves it as much as I do. I also made one for myself. HAHA. When you have a daughter it's the little things that go a long way. Good Luck. Sewing places have wall racks that hold spools of thread - they have little dowels that stick out about 2 inches. You could spray paint it the color of her room.

I was just glancing at a Pier 1 imports flyer/catalog and saw this....

I haven't seen it in person but it looks cute on the web page.

I hang my necklaces on the inside of my closet door using one of those over the door racks you can buy in the bathroom section (they're intended for towels or robes or something).

I use self adhesive picture frame holders and attach them to the back of her mirror on her dresser. They have an adhesive cloth like section with a little hook at the bottom, perfect for a necklace and behind the mirror they are safe, don't get tangled but not unsightly

Home Goods has these wire frame "mannequins" that fit on your bureau and can hold necklaces and earrings. I've seen them other places as well, but just saw them there 2 days ago.

good luck!

If she has a mirror in her room you can buy little suction cups that have hooks on them at any drug store or hardware store. They're only a few bucks.

At Claire's in the mall they have metal mesh letters with hooks for necklaces and the mesh is for earings. Just pick put your initial. My daughter got one from a friend for Christmas and I just saw them yesterday at Claires. They are cute, my daughter couldn't wait to fill it right up when she got it.

You could leave them on the nails and make a "curtain" to hide them with some really cute fabric.

I use a tie holder. It has about 24 dowels and then two hooks. It is stained wood and you can mount it on a door or a wall. I have one for me and one for my daughter.

My 15 yr old daughter has a belly ring and she made a holder from a sturdy colored box and has a display of her belly jewels on her shelf.

Same could be done for a necklace, you just have to adjust for the length.

If you don't mind the holes in the wall, instead of plain nails, how about using a few fancy plant holders? They come in many sizes, and are usually white or brass colored. What I am referring to are the hooks that you sometimes see in the ceiling for hanging plants. They are usually "C-shaped" and you can find them in places like Home Depot, etc, packaged individually and they sell for about $1.00 each if that much. They have a screw attached to them so they screw right inot the wall. Good luck.

I was also going to suggest a picture frame. Take the glass out and cover the back board with something (fabric or even scrapbook paper) and add in small nails or tacks to use to hang the necklaces on. Either take a frame you have already or get one from goodwill/salvation army (you could spray paint it to match the room) and it can be an inexpensive project.

Hi,
You know those picture hodlers that go on the wall? they have ribbons criss crossing each other for pictures to slide in? well that looks nice works good and is relatively inexpensive. All you need are some decorative pins to hold the necklaces. I also would suggest a large shadow box with a door. That will hold necklaces also with pin needles.

I am a jewelry designer and have lots of options.

I recently did a blog post with necklace holder ideas, you can see it here:

One good way, that I don't have shown, is to get a large frame, add foam board to it and cover it in pretty material. Then stick clear thumbtacks in it.

I know it's a bit after the fact, but wanted to share. When i was young i loved horses(still do), my dad traced one of my horse statues onto wood & cut it out. Along the top from mane to tail he put in small C hooks & used brackets on the back to hang it. I still have it & now my 2 girls use it!

Look on E-bay for jewelry hangers.
Or peg boards that you can paint yourself and decorate it.
Home Depot and stores as such will have peg boards... the kind to hang tools on.

good luck,
Susan
