My amazing little boy is grinding his teeth at night time! It doesn't happen constantly and my husband and I have just realized this. And we have no idea how long it has been going on. So any tips or anything that we can do, would be greatly apperciated.

What can I do next?

Hi I just wanted to let you know that our 3 1/2 year old son also is a grinder at night. we asked both the dentist and the peditrition what to do and they both said at this young age it is of no concern and to turn a deaf ear and leave things alone for the moment. If as he gets older he still grinds to let them know, but at this time it is a very common thing among toddlers and that most eventually will out grow it.

My 5 year old also grinds his teeth.I first noticed it when he was about 2 yrs old. His dentist has stated it is normal for children his age to grind there teeth and to just keep an eye on it. Good Luck.

Hi! Our dentist said it should stop after the adult teeth come in. However, I'm 28 and my husband says I still do it sometimes lol!

My now 5 year old still grinds his teeth. We asked the dentist and they said it is normal. Kids teeth are always moving as kids grow. Unless it is hurting his teeth there is nothing you can do................grin and bear it :) :)

Good luck. It can be annoying :)

Totally, completely, and 100% normal, so rest easy! Both of our children (our son, now age 10; and our daughter, now age 5) did the same very disconcerting thing for quite some time. It would give me the heebie-jeebies to be sleeping beside our youngest (we practiced attachment parenting as well) or going in to cover up our oldest and hear this terrible sound and find that they were grinding their teeth! I instantly started to worry that they were stressed out or that they had something wrong with their teeth, but after asking our pediatric dentist I was reassured that this was very normal in children and that it would stop on its own without any damage to the teeth.

Sure enough, our son stopped once his orthodontic treatment started at age 9, and our daughter has already stopped (she just turned 5). I know it sets your own teeth on edge, but no worries, Mom! Your son is ready for his first dental visit, so ask his dentist in order to get professional reassurance face-to-face, but from one who has been there with two kiddos... It's totally normal for children and will indeed stop all by itself. :)

There may be nothing you can do about it. Mention it to the doc and see what the advice is. Hopefully he will stop on his own when more of his teeth are in.
