Need Help with Playards...

My first question is: does anyone know up to what age before an infant/baby can start sleeping in a bed and you can use a playard for them to sleep in up until then? The reason why I'm asking is: I want to get my Mom either a Playard (Ex. Graco pack n' play) or an Arms Reach Co-Sleeper for her to use when I go to visit her or when she babysits for my baby to sleep in until at least he/she can sleep in a bed, which I believe is around 1 1/2 to 2 years old depending on the child obviously. How Do I Get My Toddler to Sleep Through the Night

My son wil lbe 21 months in a few weeks and he does not sleep through the night. He still is breastfed and nurses to sleep for his naps and will nurse before he goes to bed, but he usually wants to be held by his dad. He has no problem going to sleep and wants to go to sleep.
