We are moving to the Bolingbrook / Romeoville area soon from Columbus, OH. My husband received a job transfer/promotion to Chicago. We have a real estate agent who has showed us quite a few places, but I'm not sure if they are in 'good' areas. A lot that we have seen is in the Winston Village complex off of Boughton Rd. Anyone live here or know if it's a 'good' or 'bad' area? I'm a stay at home mom to my 7 month old son, and want to make sure that we are living in a safe place. I appreciate all your suggestions and help! (BTW, we are looking under $200K which I've learned doesn't get you much here).

What can I do next?

Hi A.. I live in Plainfield & I don't know much abou Bolingbrook or Romeoville. I would suggest going online & looking up the school district's report card, There are also sites that will should you crime rates and that sort of thing. I'd also drive around the neighborhood at different times of day. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Hi A.,
Welcome to Illinois. I am a SAHM of 3 kids. My husband owns a Real Estate Brokerage, but thats not my point of writting to you.
I lived in Romeoville 3 months ago and just moved to Plainfield, bit north west. I would like to help you and your family to make a wise decision for buying a house as both Romeoville and Bolingbrook have some very shady neighborhoods and not such great schools. Infact, my reason to move was becuz of schools. I know pretty much every nook and corner of this area. If you search the Romeoville area for registered child sex offenders, you will be surprised to see such high #.
My intention is not to dissuade you from buying in this area but that one needs to do lots of research to buy a home esp one one has little children. I would like to offer any support that you need. Just let me know if you have any specifics questions. I can ask my husband to give you a free market analysis if you like or if you need to double check any info that you may have.
My email is ____@____.com
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks
Luna

I am pretty sure that is a decent area to live in. Do you know if you are in the Bolingbrook or Naperville School district. Bolingbrook doesn't have the best schools in the area, Naperville is much better (but costs more to live in Naperville). Lockport has a great school district and is a good place to live Plainfield is also a good area that has good schools. Downers Grove, Woodridge and Westmont are all nice areas too. I am not sure where your husband is working so. Further south there is New Lenox, which is an up and coming area, very nice. Minooka is small town, new developments, good schools and much less expensive, but pretty far out there. Let me know how things work out for you. Good Luck!

Bolingbrook is a nice area. The newer part of Bolingbrook is getting a better reputation, than what Bolingbrook used to have. I recently moved to IL from NJ and I live in Plainfield. To be honest Bolingbrook isn't really known for their school system like other areas are. That is just something I took in to consideration when moving. So hope that helps.

Smart move asking about Bolingbrook/Romeoville. That is my home town. I wouldn't recommend Winston Woods. While that little subdivision is ok, it is surrounded by some really nasty elements.

The west side of bolingbrook is good. If you can find something in Peppertree (tell your RealEstate Agent) you will be doing well. Finding something in Bolingbrook under 200 is almost impossible.

In Romeoville - try again for the west side. STAY AWAY from any thing East of Weber and South of 135. Anything Hampton Park should be good and extremely affordable. These are 40 year old homes which some have been kept up well.

Being a product of that school system, you might want to start your kids out at St. Andrews Catholic School. That is what i did. The grade schools and especially the jr high is not the greatest.

Send email if you have more questions, I would be happy to answer them.

Do you know the cross street for the subdivision? Boughton is a rather long road, and I'm not sure exactly where you are looking.
I don't think Bolingbrook really has a "bad" area. The further east you go, the older the houses and businesses, so I think real estate is probably cheaper in that direction (near rt. 53).

There is at least one registered sex offendor in that complex. See http://www.isp.state.il.us/sor/offenderlist.cfm for more information.

Best of luck!

Hello,

It depends on what you perception is on a "good" or "bad" area. We used to live in Bolingbrook near that area.

My husband is a Realtor who would be to help you out if you would like. He can pull some area demographics, school reports etc. so you can get a feel for the neighborhhod.

Hope this helps!

You aren't buying 'sight unseen' are you? My boss lives right around that area and I live not too far but can't recall exactly where it is. I can tell you this, that area is REALLY booming - a lot of retail development. There may be some not-so-hot parts of Bolingbrook but I don't believe that is one of them. When you get to town you've got to try the Portillo's that is right near there at Route 53 & Boughton. Awesome burgers, beef and hot dogs...
You're right about the price-range. There's not too much you can buy anywhere in the suburbs for under $200K. My boss, who happens to be selling her house in that area, learned from her realtor that there was something like 180 homes for sale in a 5-mile radious. Translation - it is very much a buyers market. Good luck!

I am not completely knowledgable on Bolingbrook, but do know the area you are asking about because we looked there. I would say the area is questionable at best. Try looking toward Mokena, Oak Lawn, or Aurora. Good luck!
