There is a Montessori school called Hockessin Montessori and one in North Wilmington that I think is called The Child's House it is located right off 202 (also called Concord Pike.
Good Luck with the move.
Hi!
My husband and I will be moving to the Delaware area this summer. I am currently looking for a good montessori school to place my 16 month old son. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also any recommendations on a good area to live would be great. I am looking now in the Hockessin area and Bear area.

Hi K.- I live in Wilmington (Elsmere actually) and also have a 16 month old son. My two stepdaughters have gone to Newark Center for Creative Learning, a school similar to montessori/waldorf, since kindergarten. For younger kids I know there is a Newark Montessori Preschool on rt. 72 in Newark and I have heard lots of good things about CACC Montessori in Hockessin. They take ages 18 mos- kindergarten. Do you know anyone who lives here or know much about the area? Let me know if I can help with anything. I moved here 7 years ago not knowing anyone but my husband so I know it can be tricky. Best,
K. Igou
There is one on rt.72 near bear... I have had a neice and several friends go there and in hockessin I know there are some but I am nt aware of anyone going to any...Hope this helps

Hy K. - I'm not sure about the Montessori schools since I homeschool my 2 dd's .. my husband is in the DE ANG .. we moved here 3 years ago when he separated from AD ... is your dh still military? I know one person that goes to the Newark Center for Creative Learning and she loves it .. she was previously homeschooled. Good luck and if you need any help please contact me .. V
Hi K.,
I currently live in Hockessin. I understand that the Hockessin Montessori School is wonderful. (I believe a few other have recommended it, as well.) Here is the link to the school's website. http://www.thehms.org/ Good luck to you and your family with your move. I just love this area and I'm sure you would, too!

I think the Hockessin area is a great place to look and I believe there is a good montessori school in that area. Since Hockessin is also close to PA you might find a good school there also. However, in regards to the Bear location you might want to consider sticking to the Hockessin area, better school district than Bear area. Unless you send your child to private school when he/she gets older. I hope that helps a little.
hi K.,
i know there is a montessori school in wilmington and i have heard very good things about it. here is the website. http://www.wmsde.org/
my friend has 2 kids there.
another one in wilmington is the childrens house montessori -
http://www.childrenshouse-de.org/
my girfriend was happy with this one too.
i too live in the hockessin area with a 19mos old daughter, but the hockessin montessori only has a five-day (half-day)program at this age and i thought that was a bit much for me.
i have also heard that the hockessin early learning center is very nice too.
good luck with your decision. i am in the same boat. although- i am going to wait until she is 2 - maybe 3, to put her in pre-school. we'll sea!

I moved to DE about 1 1/2 years ago. We moved into Old New CAstle, which is a cute, old town right on the river. There is a huge park and a little main street with shops and resturants in walking distance. It is so convenient to WIlmington. THere is an amazing Montessori school, Elementary Workshop Montessori SChool in Wilmington...this link goes to a video about the school http://www.teachertube.com/search_result.php?search_id=el... and their web site is www.elementaryworkshop.org GOod luck with your search and move....be sure to ask your realtor about Old New Castle...different from New Castle.
