My husband and I just moved to the DFW area and are looking for a midwife group that's connected to a hospital. Does anyone know of a midwife group?? We delivered both of our sons through a midwifery service in Houston. Since we're new to the area it's been difficult to find what we're looking for! Any help is much appreciated!

We just delivered on the 2nd at Family Birth Services in Grand Prairie. My midwife was Amy Allred and she is awesome! This was my second child, my first was delivered at the Methodist Hospital in Mansfield. I would call Family Birth Services ###-###-####) or another midwife service and ask if they use a hospital. They also might be able to tell you which ones aren't so strict. Congrats!

I got recommendations for the midwives who deliver at both Baylor Dallas and Harris Methodist in Fort Worth. Since I live closer to Dallas, I started seeing those midwives (Jane Singer and Cecily Floyd, of Women's Health Alliance) and I LOVE them. I haven't been through childbirth with them yet (I'm due early next year), but if their prenatal care is any indication, I'm sure it'll be a wonderful experience :)

Hi D.,

There are hospital based midwives at Baylor Dallas. They work in a practice called Women's Health Alliance http://www.wha-docs.com/. Even if you don't decide to use them, Baylor Dallas is the most natural friendly and mother/baby friendly hospital in the area. Let me know if you have any more questions - I'm a doula also.

Good Luck!

Hi D.,

We used Ann Crowell at Gentle Beginnings Birth Center. She is wonderful! And they have other midwives as well.

I know that Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth has a midwife program. You might want to check out their Women's services department.

Christy Martin at Gentle Beginnings Birth Center is amazing! They are not directly connected with a hospital, but explore their services at gentlebeginningsbc.com, and you will be surprised at the options you have outside of a hospital! :)

Hi D.,
As Kirsten said, Baylor Dallas has a midwife group. Harris Fort Worth also has a group of 5 midwives, and they are great! Baylor Saint Andrews in Fort Worth has midwives, too. Lewisville Medical Center has a midwife, Heather C. I believe there are also midwives in Denton.
Some are more natural birth friendly than others.
Good luck!

A friend of mine is a doula, Leigh Anne DuChene - ###-###-####. She'll have the scoop on the Dallas area for you (her cell phone # is from before her move here several years ago but she's local).

Also, she helps her husband run the DuChene Natural Health Center and hosts classes and a radio show about conscious parenting... they are a great resource!
