Looking for Birthing Center in or near Fort Worth for Vbac

I'm looking for the best pro-VBAC hospital. I'm learning that hospitals in general are not the best way to get that, but I still prefer hospitals just in case there is an emergency. What is the best hospital to have a VBAC in or near Fort Worth? Any suggestions as to what I can do to increase my chances of a VBAC? Also, I'm very open to birthing centers, but I would like one that is close to or connected to a hospital with good back ups in case of an emergency.

My first baby was born via c-section, but I am starting to believe it wasn't as necessary as my doc was making it sound. That hurts to know. Apparently, it was a failure to progress & to dilate. I made it to 8 cm, but my doc didn't have the patience for more. Well, I can use any & all advice out there! Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Try Kathleen Donaldson's midwife group at Harris in downtown Ft worth. They are the next best thing to being at a birthing center.

Hello! I am so happy to hear you are trying for a VBAC. I just had a wonderful VBAC a few months ago (in WA). It's really not as scary as the doctors try to make it sound. As long you go natural and don't get induced, it should be no problem. I would suggest you check out your local ICAN Chapter (International Cesarean Awareness Network). They should have a forum you can join to ask questions and to find providers. If you want any more specific information feel free to contact me off-list. Good luck!!

From my experience, it is not the hospital, but the physician you choose who is either pro or con VBAC. Great advice below!

Andrew's Women's Hospital at Baylor All-Saints is where I had my third. It's a brand new hospital and it was an incredible experience. My suggestion to you would use mid-wives. They take a more natural approach, but don't hesitate for one second to use traditional meds. and procedures. I have had all three of my babies with this group of women. They are Licensed Nurse-Midwifes who are back my an MD. They deliver at Baylor All Saints in downtown Fort Worth, their offices are across from the hospital. Texas Health Care Nurse-Midwives, 1650 W. Magnolia, Suite 204 and 212 Fort Worth, TX, 76104, ###-###-#### (Medicaid patients) ###-###-#### (private insurance or self-pay). Hope this helps.
One other suggestion would to find a "younger" OBGYN. I know older Dr's can be set in their ways. Not trying to offend anyone.

My first was born c-section in 1992 (for what sounds like similar reasons to yours). My second (1995) and third (1996) were both vbac. I had absolutely NO problem with the two vbac deliveries and all three of my children were born at Harris Methodist Fort Worth. All three were positive experiences. Oh, and I was 35, 38 and 39 when they were born. I found that recovery from the vbac births was much easier than recovery from the c-section.

After posting this, I noticed that somebody said you should not be induced with a vbac delivery. My 1995 vbac birth was induced and I had no problems. My 1996 vbac was not induced. I didn't notice much difference other than how much faster the contractions come with being induced.

I had my second baby at Baylor-Grapevine and my doctor offered to let me try a VBAC. (My first baby was a c-section with a different doctor.) After he got information from me about my first baby, he thought I was a candidate for a VBAC. I ultimately chose against it, but it was an option for me.

My current OB/GYN doctor is wonderful and I would completely trust his opinion about whether it is a good option for you or now. His name is Joseph Kilianski with North Texas Women's Healthcare. His number is ###-###-####.

Best wishes!

Up here near Seattle, our local birth centers won't usually do them knowingly. But we do have two private midwives who both happen to also be CNMs or ARNP/CNMs. They do them in two local hospitals. So you might check with a midwife who is a CNM, they seem more likely to do a vbac. We also have one old school LM who does them at home, but the birth center midwives I know don't. Hope that helps somehow!

Here is another vote for Gentle Beginnings Birth Center :) We used Ann Crowell with our daughter 2 years ago and will be using her again this November. She has a TON of experience, including VBAC's. The great thing about her (or anyone there) is that they will work with you on having the type of birth that you hope for while keeping your safety in mind. And she is backed by a doctor and hospital in case of emergency. Here is their website:

Also, have you considered getting a doula? If not, you should really check it out. We used Gina Phillips (http://www.connectnaturally.com/) but you can find one closer to you, depending upon where you are at http://dona.org/
We found that having a doula made a HUGE difference in our experience!

(My birth story is on the Gentle Beginnings site, titled, "Pregnancy" if you want to read more about the experience at the birth center and having a doula.)

Well I would recommend Gentle Beginnings birthing center in Hurst, Texas off of Harwood. The midwife's name is Anne Crowell. She is very sweet, compassionate, and wonderful mid-wife who will make you feel like you are being taken care of instead of just another patient. She is affiliated with Harris Methodist Hospital should something go wrong (God forbid), I had a baby with her in the comfort of my home, I was 40 years old and had a 9lb 8oz baby. It was hard but truly one of the best decision's I made for myself. However, their birthing center is very nice also. You can schedule a free consultation with her if you are unsure or have questions,

Also, before you make any decisions I would love for you to rent "The Business of Being Born" It is a true documentary about childbirth and clearly talks about how many unwanted C-Sections are done because the "Doctor" needs to get home or has something planned. It was an eye opening documentary and I would so recommend it. Best of luck with your pregnancy. I hope this helps :)
