They are very hot. If you tend to be hot when you sleep you should really consider another type of bed.

I slept in one for a week on a vacation visiting relatives. It was the worst thing I have ever experienced. If you lay absolutely still, it's fine. I am an active sleeper- flip over alot, so it was very uncomfortable. Also, very HOT! I would give it 2 thumbs down!

My 17 yr old son has always been extrememly active. I think he jumped and ran and was climbing everything before other kids his age were walking. That being said, he had several acidents that hurt his back. We bought him a memory foam mattress a year and a half ago and he loves it. NO more back pain! Now we're planning to splurge and get one for ourselves. A good option is at Sams Club. They have a Tempsoma. It is the same quality as the expensive mattress stores at half the price. I think they have the queen size at the stores but you can order other sizes online with free shipping. They come extremely compact and when you put them on the box (no springs for this kind of mattress) it has huge lumps. I thought it would never flatten out, but a few hours later, it was perfect. Good luck.

I have a sleep number bed which is good for me because my husband likes his side firmer than mine. I am also a belly/ side sleeper and it is nice to have the power to adjust the firmness. We bought 2 twin mattress for my kids because we loved the no bed bugs/allergen aspect.
Good luck and happy sleeping.

We had a memory foam mattress by Isoform - http://www.isoform.com/. I HATED IT. I absolutely could NOT stand it. I was used to a soft mattress (I had a hibernation series waterbed that had foam in it so it was firm, not that wavy and soft) and going from that to a foam mattress was like sleeping on a brick. I'm a side sleeper so I didn't even make a dent into the mattress as you sink in where the weight is and if you are a side sleeper, you didn't sink it much at all (if you are a back sleeper, you probably would like it more as it contours to your body better). I actually sold it because I hated it sooo much and got a sleep number.

I love my sleep number. Sure it's expensive but so are the foam mattresses. I like how on the sleep number you and your spouse can adjust the bed the way you both like it.

Good luck finding a bed! I never knew it would be such a pain!

I have a Tempurpedic mattress. I bought mine during a no sales tax weekend and also managed to get free shipping so all I paid for was the mattress and foundation. I have been sleeping comfortably on it for a couple of years now. As mentioned, it does take some getting used to, but if you keep your old one as a backup until you decide, you can do the in home trial and see if it works for you.

We had the opportunity to use one while on vacation. It was very comfortable to lay on, but it conforms so well to the body that it makes it really hard to move, roll over etc. I was pregnant and changed positions alot. It fairly hard to roll over which was a bit frustrating.

L.,

You can try a new mattress, but it won't heal your back pain. If you are actually truly interested in healing yourself, permanently, and feeling better, for life, you might consider yoga. Yoga is excellent for strengthening the back, making it more flexible, and healing damaged vertebrae.

A good yoga studio to try in Frisco is Sunstone Yoga. www.sunstoneyoga.com.

Good luck!

I don't have a memory foam mattress but I have an Air Select (?) mattress that is almost 20 years old and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. It is wonderful and both my husband and I can sleep comfortable. You may want to check it out.

Hello L., I would suggest a Sleep Number bed. IT's perfect because you can adjust the hardness/softness depending on how your back is feeling. I crank mine all the way up when I need it firm and then can make it very soft as well. AND, as an added bonus, Hubby can do the same. They sides are separate.

My Mom and my sons all have memory foam toppers for their beds and LOVE them, they are very comfortable. We just like being able to adust the firmness of the beds.

Good Luck,
D.

Hi L.,
I've had a memory foam mattress for 5 years and LOVE it. I have never slept so well in my life with no pain. I will never go back to a standard type of mattress. We didn't buy the Tempurpedic brand. We got ours from Foamorder.com. At the time we were living in the Bay Area and the actual location was in San Francisco. It was much cheaper than buying the brand name. I think we paid around $1300 back then. The main difference was the cover. Ours came with a removable, washable cotton cover. I thing the name brand has a polyester cover and I'm not sure if it's removable. We got the 3" memory foam top with the natural latex base. We don't have a box spring, we bought a bedframe that has a European slat design. One word of caution, it's extremely heavy to lift and move around. Good luck.

Hi L.,

My husband and I both complained of back pain..we had a pillow top mattress. After looking at tempurpedic and sleep number beds, we decided on the memory foam mattress. We love it! Not sure we will ever go back to a regular mattress. I saw the comment about it being hard to move around on...there are different levels of "foam" that you can choose. Some are much softer than others.(and you don't wake up when the other person gets in bed or moves around!) We purchased ours from Overstock.com. For a king, it was around $500 and the shipping was only $2.I got a flyer in the mail yesterday, they are having a sell! It comes in a box and then you lay it out of "expand" for several hours. Here's a hint...keep your old mattress just in case if after a few weeks, you still don't like it. It does take some getting used to, but we love it.

Here's to happy sleeping!
N.

We have had a standard bed, a waterbed, a sleep comfort bed, and now we have a temperpedic. For some reason it took me about 3 weeks to get used to it. Now I wouldn't have anything else. Sometimes we just lay in bed swearing it's just too comfortable to even get up. We treated ourselves to it with our tax return one year. If you can afford it - get the top of the line - it is the most comfortable.
