My grandfather poured gravel down for us. Our grass was becoming a mess also. It is really nice to have that permanent spot now. We didnt have to ask the township. Every area may be different though.
We already have 3 vehicles (1 can fit in the garage now that hubby cleaned his work table up and out of the way). He put up a new garage door before winter. We would park one car on the grass next to the garage but the grass looks beat up there. My FIL is giving us his boat and hubby wants to go get it today and I think it will be too much in the yard. We just got it cleaned up. I finally gave in and said if you get that handle put on the garage door right now you can go get it and I won't complain about it being there. He ran so fast! It worked. An hour project that would have waited another couple months if I didn't make this proposition. We are wondering if we could just lay gravel over the grassy area next to the garage or if we need to get permission from the city first. We won't be doing any digging or pouring concrete. There's a line of tall bushes on the other side of it so it won't be too noticeable. Not a huge spot but big enough for our boat. I want the driveway free this summer so the kids can play basket ball in it. A car I can move to the road but not a boat. I did see another house a few blocks away that had gravel laid down for their camper.

You need to contact your local municipality. At one time all parking pads in our borough needed to be concrete or asphalt, but recently I noticed to be more green (?) they changed that requirement that you can use gravel again.
Call city hall and ask. I know in Menasha we can't park on our own lawn or leave non-running cars sit in our yard. It might be a Menasha ordinance or law Wisconsin.
Most cities have some sort of rules that need to be followed so I would look into it first.
It depends on the city - you'd better call.
