Hi,

My family is new to the area and my kids are going to Lake Forest Pediatrics in Lindenhurst. We would like our kids on an alternative vaccine schedule so we are looking for a vaccine friendly
pediatrician. Anyone go to Dr. Elvove in Libertyville or hear anything about him?

Thanks!
H.

Hi H.,
I am happy to tell you that Dr. Elvove is probably one of the best docs in the county!!!!! He delivered my daughter at home 10 1/2 years ago, and I have not been to another doctor since. Not only does he not push the vaccines, he will go over pros and cons with all of them if you ask. When we see him for an appointment he always takes the time, no matter what the appointment is for to talk over everything. Being such a carrying doctor does cause his office to get a little behind schedule though, so if you choose him, try always to get a morning appointment.
I cannot say enough good things about him. Me, my husband, my 23 year old son and 10 year old daughter all see him. We love him!!!!!

I can't answer your specific question, but a call to the doctor's office (ask to speak with a nurse for the doctor, and you should get a call back) will answer all your questions.

I'm also curious about what you mean by an alternative vaccine schedule? :)

Lastly, vaccines are your choice, essentially...you don't have to have them, even for school, because you can state a specific reason why they haven't been done. I don't know if you're looking to NOT have them done...but most doctor's, although they might not ENCOURAGE it, would probably let you turn down certain ones, if you have concerns.

I still go to LFP to the same Dr for 11 years even though my son developed chronic GI problems and dramatically regressed into mute unreachable autism in an 8 week period from a mercury containing flu vaccine at a belated well child visit when he was 3 years 2 months. The DR and I have an understanding of each others viewpoints into that shocking episode although I would not say we see eye to eye about the toxic trigger. Still, he allows me to check titers of my son's twin sister and older brother so I know immunity status before I decide whether to boost (the son that regressed also goes to a DAN dr except for an occasional check-up only with the LFP Dr-he has recovered much awareness/interaction and some functional speech). I skipped some of my daughters kindergarten boosters as a result of titer check and also did not go for the pertussis version of the Tetanus booster for my 14 year old. I have to sign a paper when I "opt out" and their record of my kids immunization history states "refused" for that booster dose. Not ideal, but again, I feel I am on level fair ground now. Plus, my 4 kids were nearly all through the recommended schedule when my son regressed so maybe that puts them in a more tolerable position from the practice's viewpoint. Still I have to deal with the nurse or receptionist trying to get me to delay a spring annual physical needed for summer camp paperwork due in May, just so my soon to be 11 yo could turn 11 and have his N. Menigiditis shot. Sorry, I probably wont even do that when he is 11 at his physical next spring. If I didn't have to be so vigilant and research everything myself, I probably would switch to a practice that had a more balanced and customized approach. As long as I get to evaluate and choose though my LFP Dr, though, I am ok to stay and put up with the pressure and waivers. As a working mom, I must say I love their sick call when needed (luckily rarely but one never knows).

We go to Vernon Hills pediatrics and I have my child on a spread out vaccine schedule. There was no real reason for this; I just felt better about spreading them out more so he doesn't get so many at once.
I thought they would give me grief about it, but when I mentioned it they just said "Sure, just let us know what you're comfortable with."
Just thought I'd give you that option. Most pediatrician practices will be open to that kind of thing. :)
