My 5 1/2 month old baby just outgrew her infant carrier (she is a big baby!) I was using the Graco snap and go stroller with the infant carrier for mall outings and travel and loved it as it is so light, easy to use and inexpensive. Now I am looking for the next step up. I have a nice toddler stroller that is great for most outings, but it is heavy and I would never want to lug it through and airport or take it with me on a trip. Any suggestions for a lightweight stroller that is inexpensive but still offers comfort and some storage space for a baby that can't yet sit up on her own? I would also love some sun/rain protection. I know it seems a lot to ask! :)

I have a Graco Metrolite stroller with the travel system and the stroller is a pain in the neck. My girl is 5 1/2 months and about 18lbs and is outgrowing it.

I too recommend the Combi for a lightweigh stroller that folds up super small. It is great especially for those that cannot sit up on their own yet. They recline and most have a cup holder for the child at their level (I highly suggest you buy one with it for future use, less headache for you!) The storage is pretty good and most everything is washable and comes apart and goes back together easy. They have some great colors out right now (I saw some the other day and I was a little jealous!)
In regards to travel, most have a strap on the back for carrying in the airport if you have your child out of it. The shade protection on the one I have is pretty good for an umbrella type stroller and I know there is a larger shade that can be purchased to fit Combi strollers that really basically covers the whole child.

I have used successfully the Maclaren Volo Stroller with Carrying strap so you can sling it on your shoulder. I used it on the airplane for an international trip I went on with my son and we did not have my husband with us.

I have a McLaren stroller and love it..... I don't know what you need storage wise, on the stroller... it has a "basket" under and a detachable bag on the back....it has a sun "visor" on it, and I also bought a plastic cover for rain. the rain protection thing i really didn't use....
I Love Mclaren strollers because how smooth the wheels turn and in crowded airports and mall I was able to manuever it with one hand easily... I recommend it to everyone!!!!
We use the Jeep Stroller from Babies R Us. It is heavy and bulky - but it is the BEST stroller for traveling or shopping. Why? Well, my son LOVES to be in it - so that is a big plus! But also, it has lots of storage space to help carry things (great for lugging everything through an airport) - it has a built in steering wheel so that my son is occupied with toys that won't fall off and get lost and it can hold a ton of stuff - great for shopping trips or the airport. But it does weigh 28 lbs. and it is very big - so won't fit in most car trunks. My husband has an SUV, so it fits in there fine, but when I take it in my car, I have to put it in the front seat b/c it is too large to fit in the trunk - but totally worth it!

As long as she can hold herself up in the stroller to sit I agree with an umbrella stroller of some type. Very lightweight and easy to store. I also have a big girl, 18.4 lbs at 6 months and she has been able to safely and comfortable sit in the umbrella stroller for over a month now.
Hi L., I have a neck problem so I had to find a good stroller and a light one. I ended up with the stroller of my dreams The Maclaren. It is light weight and they have all kinds of models. I have the regular umbrella and I also have the tech one that the back lyes all the way down. Have traveled with both and haven't had any problems with them plus they are not bulky at all. My favorite stroller was purchased from Woolworths years and years ago. It was lightweight, had an extended handle which was great for my tall husband and had a big basket for storage and only cost $19.99...but I have never seen another like it since then and I gave mine away when my girls grew out of it. Now I babysit a 9mo old and found myself once again in need of a stroller. I went to Babies R Us in Monroeville and bought a cute umbrella stroller for $19.99. It came in lots of cute colors and has a nice sun/rain shade. it has a bag for some storage...but not much. I like that it is sturdy and has a three point buckle I also like the breaks and the one handed fold/unfolding. They had a big selection so you should check them out.
I love my Graco Metrolite. It's only 17 lbs and has all of the features of the larger, heavier models... cup holders, ample storage, it folds upright, etc. :) Good luck!
I "third" the combi. When my daughter was a baby, she was able to sit in it because it has pretty secure shoulder harnesses & a 5-point seatbelt. I take public transit a lot and found that it was light enough to carry & easy to fold up.
We have a 15 month old and love our Jeep stroller available at Toys R Us. My almost 3 years old niece uses it also. We just got home from a trip to NC. I could carry it, my son, diaper bag and a backpack with no problem. It folds and opens very easy and it's not expensive.
I wish that I had actually gone to a Babies r us or similar baby stuff store and tried out strollers. I am currently on baby # 3 and the best advice I can give you is to go the store with lo in tow and test drive some of those babies! no pun intended.
With that said, I have to ask , do you plan for another bambino in your near future? If so, you might want to try Phil and Teds stroller which actually allow you to add another seat.Its pricey, but so is buying a 2nd stroller(especially a double) Baby trend also has a sit and stand so if by the time you've had another one, your current little rockstar can ride like a cool kid on the back. Hard to imagine, but -hey so is 3 kids under 3-who knew?!
Jeep makes an umbrella stroller that is sturdier and has larger wheels than a regular umbrella stroller and I love it. I bought it when my oldest son was 6 months old, and he had no problems staying in it. It doesn't have a lot of storage (just two small pockets for a sippy cup or small toys) but I just hang the diaper bagover the handles. I have taken it on numerous car trips and love how it fits with all the luggage in even my small Saturn's trunk and have used it for three flights and it is easy to open and close quickly and small enough that the airlines have no problem with you using it right up until you get on the plane and stowing it there. I believe it only cost about $40, maybe less.
