I'm looking for games for adult women to play at our Church's Ladies' Retreat. Our theme is "In the Garden". I am having a rather difficult time finding games. I'm looking for the games to be about 5-10 minutes for about 10-15 women. Any suggestions would be wonderful!! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Our church group members were each given a small piece of paper to write "something interesting about yourself that no one else knows". We then folded them up and drew them out of a hat one by one. We had to guess who belonged to the interesting fact. We were shocked and entertained at some of the things that we learned!

Hi D., how about charades? We played at our church on New Years eve and had a blast. You could make the words to act out garden/creation/Adam & Eve words. Someone goes first, draws a word and acts it out (no speaking!). Whoever guesses goes next. I think it would be fun! God bless and good luck.

Here's a fun one called Picture/Caption:
Cut 8 1/2 X 11 paper in half the long way and tape together so that you have a long, narrow strip of paper.
Make enough for everyone playing to have one. This is better at a table.
Everyone writes any sentence or phrase at the top without showing anyone, then passes to the left.
On the paper you receive, draw a picture to go with what the last person wrote.
Before passing to the left again, fold the paper back so that the next person only sees your picture.
Write a caption for the picture that is passed to you.
Continue writing/drawing/folding/passing until the strips of paper are filled to the bottom. You should only see one picture or one caption each time a paper is passed to you.
When done, everyone unfolds whichever strip they've ended up with and laughs hysterically about how the first caption mutated.
Pass the papers around so that everyone gets to read all of them.
This game is fun because there are no losers, it's easy to learn, you need very few supplies, and it gets real silly :)

"Who Am I?" is a fun one for any age. You write down the names of famous people (living or dead), cartoon characters, or other "characters" from pop culture, and you tape a name to the back of each lady. Then the ladies all mingle asking only yes or no questions until they figure out the name on their back. Encourage them to ask things like, "Am I still alive?" "Was I on television?" "Was I a politician?" "Was I a cartoon character?" You get the idea. When a lady figures out who she is, she still mills about the room helping other ladies figure out who they are. If you don't want to come up with the names, have each lady write down a character and put it in a bowl and then you walk around putting the names on people's backs.

If you wanted to be REALLY creative with this, you could make the things on people's backs garden-related, such as particular types of plants, or particular types of implements used in the garden, but the people one is much more challenging.

I was a Youth Minister and Christian Educator for 11 years and have led numerous retreats, so after the ladies here on this board give you their great ideas, if you still need more, please feel free to send me a message. Good luck and have a great time with the ladies!

Give me a little more background on the ladies-how old-are they up for crazy fun or very conservative...You could do something simple like having them pot their own plants-bring seeds & potting soil. You could also bring some cheap visor-type hats from the dollar tree & some silk flowers, glitter, stickers, tissue paper, other building materials & have them make a decorative-crazy hat for when they're gardening :)
There are a few crazier things you could do that would be fun like a pie-eating contest. Also, a grapefruit carrying game where you have the ladies separate into 2 groups & have 2 women from each team go as fast as they can to an end point holding the grapefruit between each others foreheads. Let me know what kind of ladies you have attending & I'll give you more ideas if you need them. (These are games we used to do in our youth group when I was younger)

Hi D.,
You have a great outlook on life and I applaud your gratitude. You are quite busy it seems and i would just like to encourage you to be sure to take the time to care for yourself. It is vital for your happiness. Be as good to YOU as you already are to others!

You have some great ideas posted already. A Scavenger hunt is always fun and you can plant Garden stuff in keeping with the theme.

If its summer or spring you may be able to find edible flowers...you can obtain a list online and make a game of guessing and eating them! While homeschooling my son I did this as a science experiment and we both had fun and learned at the smae time!
Dont forget..be good to you!
Blessings!

There's a game called truth and lies. Each person tells 2 true things and one lie and then the person to their left guesses out loud which is the lie(usually invoking help from the whole group). IF you make sure the 1st 2 people do it really well it gets the game going and is fun. You get to know 2 things about each person and sometimes the lies are even more telling. (it might be fun to open with a dispensation from your priest/pastor/deacon that Thou Shalt Not Lie is still one of the big ten but since everyone knows what we are doing here and there is full disclosure minutes later we have approval - just a fun way to start the game) With 15 women you'll want to break into 2-3 groups to keep in the 10-15 minutes.
