Hey ladies....have any ideas for baby shower games? I have a few but wanted to see if you have anything different in mind that I haven't heard of. Thanks!

I did one at a party once that was lots of fun. Its a little time consuming so probably not for a big group. Sounds gross, but it was great! You get 4 or 5 different chocolate candy bars (Snickers, Milky way, nutraegous, hersheys) and melt them just a little in the microwave. (till they are soft) Then you spread the contents into a disposable diaper and number each one. Then your guests look through the messy diaper and try to guess what each candy bar is. Give everyone a piece of paper numbered 1-4 (or however many candy cars you use)they write down their guesses and turn them into you. Everyone really enjoyed this! Also, not really a game but something fun.. A friend of mine had a shower and the hostess bought a bunch of white onesies and fabric paint and each guest decorated a onesies for the new arrival. They were very cute and a great keepsake! Have fun
I was just at a baby shower and they did several things that I thought were so unique and fun!
They went to Michaels and bought letters that are on a platform with wheels and have magnets on the front and back. They hook together and spell names and can be pulled, like a little train set. So you get letters to spell out the baby's name. You can do just first name, or the whole first, middle and last name... depending on the number of guests coming. They did her whole name. And then they bought paint that matches the nursery... shades of pink, white, green and yellow were the colors my friend had used. Each guest picked a letter and throughout the whole shower they were able to paint and decorate it however they wanted. We were able to stop and participate in other games. Some people didn't want to play the other games, so they just worked on their letter. It was so amazing to see the creative things that people came up with! At the end of the shower, all the letters were done and the name was hooked together. Then the mom picked three decorated letters that were her favorites, and the guests that painted them got a door prize. They had clear paint that seals the letters so that the paint won't fleck off. They put it on after the shower. Now she has the name train hooked together and displayed on her daughter's dresser and it is so bright and vibrant and fun, and it constantly reminds her of all the people that came and celebrated her pregnancy and her daughter!
Also, while opening gifts, she had each guest sit on the couch with her while she opened their gift. And at least one photo was taken of the two of them with the gift. She's now working on her scrapbook, and she's so glad she has a photo showing who gave what. It also really helped her write her thank you notes, because if things got mixed up in the bags or the description wasn't clear from the person taking notes, then she could just go back and look at the photos!
She also was given a cute stuffed bear that has a photo frame attached. Everyone signed the bear with congratulations (make sure it isn't real fluffy, but has a smooth surface to write on) and after her daughter was born, she put her photo in it, and it's displayed on the dresser next to the train.
I saw this game on a web site of one of Mamasource people. Take a little candy bar about a t spoon or so and put different candy bars in different diapers and let the guests guess what candy bar it came from. But first microwave it a little until it melts. Sounds gross but different. Good Luck G.. I then think maybe time a look or something.
We had one with baby food also. You get 2 sets of partners with one person standing across from their partner. You blind fold one of the partners and give the blind folded person a jar of baby food with a spoon then you say, "Go" and they have to feed the other person the food, the one that finishes first wins. It's lots of fun. You could also have door prizes, just have them enter their names into a jar as they walk in and have a drawing at the end. And the all famous clothes pin, where you give them a clothes pin as they walk in and if someone crosses their legs or arms they get to have it taken away from them, at the end the one that collects the most wins something.
I have done the messy diaper game too and it's so much fun.
I do one called "baby bingo". I make up bingo cards on Word, fill the spaces with shower gifts. I include brands (Gap, Graco, Fisher Price etc.) and items (diaper pail, sheets, bottles) and throw in some unusual ones too (handmade gift, gift for mom, etc) If they know the baby's name you can put the name on the squares to represent a personalized gift. I fill them in on random spaces on enough master copies depending on how many guests there will be. Each card will have 25 squares.
Tip: go to their registries to get ideas on what the gifts may be!!! And it's easiest to make one big long list first, then use those words to fill in the squares on all the cards. If you want, I'll email you the list I have to get you started.
I print them on blue or pink paper. The guests all get a card when they arrive and mark the squares as the gifts are opened. If there is a Graco Stroller and there are 2 squares - one says Graco and the other says Stroller they can only mark one square.
Sometimes it goes pretty fast, so you might have a bunch of copies run off and you can hand out another set to continue if you want. Sometimes it takes the whole time. If there is no winner we give the prize to the person with the most squares marked off.
For prizes, you can do a bottle of wine, or Bath & Body Works usually has cute gift packs on clearance. You can even do little gift cards to Target or something ($10 or however much your prizes are worth).

We used to do these:
1. How fast can you drink from a baby bottle?
Think it's easy? This game is a lot harder than it looks. Take four or five volunteers from the party. Fill four or five 4 oz. baby bottles about a quarter full with juice or water. Hand each one of the contestants a bottle, and say drink. Who ever finishes the bottle first wins!
2. How big is Mom's belly?
This game involves the whole party. Ask guests to tear toilet paper off a roll that they think will match closest to the size of the mother-to-be's stomach, if it were wrapped around her. The one who tears of the right length or closest, wins. (Use pink or blue if you can find it)
3. Dirty Diapers?(Baby Shower Game Pick)
Take a napkin (one per guest), fold the napkins resembling a diaper and secure with a diaper pin. Attach the "diaper" to the bottom of each guests seat in advance. Place mustard or chocolate in one. Have everyone at some point during the party reach under their chairs. The one with the "dirty" diaper wins a prize.
4. Can you guess the baby food?
This free game involves getting five different kinds of baby food. Take the labels off the jars and mark the bottom of the jar with a number 1-5. Set them down in an area where guests can examine and smell them. Have everybody write down what type of baby food they think is in each jar. The guest with the most correct answers wins this baby game.
5. Guess what baby items are in the bag?
Place 10- 15 commonly used baby items in a large paper bag. Give each guest a pen and a sheet of paper. Let each guest stick their hand in the bag, touching the items, without looking. After each guest has had their turn, let them write down as many items as they can remember on their sheet of paper. The guest with the most correct answers wins!
And not exactly a game -- but have everyone write their name and address on a thank you card envelope and put into a basket -- draw one name out for a door prize -- but make sure the mommy to be keeps the already addressed envelopes to make her thank you note writing easier!
At my baby shower the host got a tray and filled it with little baby item (a rattle, cotton swabs, a diaper, bottle, pacifier, soap ect.) Instruct the guest to look at the items on the tray while the pregnant girl walks around the crowd so that they can all see the items (pass out a piece of paper and a pen to everyone) hsve people look at the items then remove the tray and the pregnant women from the room. at my shower the guests had to remember as many items as they could from the tray (this is a very typical way of playing the game) at my sister's shower we did the same game but instead of having people remember what was on the tray we suprised everyone by asking what color shirt the prego was wearing!! Everyone was so concentrated on what was on the tray that most people couldn't come up with what the pregnant lady was wearing!! (we got lots of laughs with this twist on a fun game!!) The best part of this game is the new mommy gets to keep all of the baby stuff that is on the tray! Hope this helped and hope you have a great time!!
Take the first name of the parents, or baby's name if that's been decided, and type the letters vertically on a sheet a paper, like this for example:
S
A
R
A
H
Make several copies and pass out to the guests. The participants have to come up with words that are baby or labor related that start with each letter. S=sleep sack, A=applesauce, R=rocker, etc.
The first one finished wins.
At my baby shower (which was a karaoke party at my request) we had everyone dress in the style that was popular the year they were born. Some people got really into it, the pictures are hilarious. One of the games we played was pairing off guests and blindfolding one of them. The person who was blind folded had to feed their sighted partner a jar of baby food, racing the other guests. It was so much fun! A little messy for the competitive people!
This isn't a game, but at my baby shower everyone decorated a scrapbook page for me. And then the hostess took a picture of me with each guest and it created my scrapbook for my baby shower! Girls who didn't even scrapbook had a BLAST doing this! The other thing that I have done that I thought was fun and a great keepsake for the new Mommy-to-be was having the guests autograph a baby blanket or a hooded towel for the baby. The only other game that I thought was fun was to have everyone cut string the size that they think your belly is and whoever comes the closest gets a prize! Have fun!
Boy did you get some cute responses!! You are set, I think!
My game is simple and doesn't cost a thing! Everyone gets to decorate the paper plate they are going to use for the snacks. Have them put the plate on their heads and try to draw a baby's face, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, some hair...the person who turns out the cutest wins.
Have fun!
Marianne
PS...I think its also a lovely idea for guests who are good in the kitchen to bake a one dish dinner to freeze for postpartum.
Hi J., we do several funny ones but the one I love is everyone gets some curling ribbon and tries to guestimate how round(how big around) the pregnant mommy's tummy is. It can be hilarious! The baby food guessing game is fun but gross and the blue or pink M&Ms in the baby bottle(guess how many there are) is fun. I am sure those are all old standbys! Have a great time! J.
Have different baby foods with the labels taken off and number each one. Have the guests guess what each flavor is. Make sure they are simple fruits, veggies, or meats. I wouldn't try to make them guess things like strawberry banana or plum apple. whoever guesses the most flavors right wins! It's a fun game. Even veteran moms have trouble.
This isn't really a game, but an activity... buy a bunch of white/solid color onesies and some fabric/puff paint and let everyone decorate a onesie for the new baby. My sister did this at a shower and she said they got some really cute and funny ones.
I have a suggestion, not a game, that I have seen done at other showers that I wish had been done at mine. The person throwing the shower bought Thank You cards and everyone filled out their addresses on an envelope. A door prize winner was drawn from all of the envelopes that were filled out.
Jamie have a powerpoint and excel worksheet of shower games. If your interested, just send me an e-mail at ____@____.com and I'll send to you. Examples of the games are word scramble, name the baby animal, advice to the mother using the letters of the babies name, etc.
Last shower I hosted, we scrapbooked and everyone used the advise game as the foundation for their page, was very meaningful for the new Mom.
I love the "You Got the Cutest Little Baby Face" game. By email, phone or on invitation, instruct guests to bring a baby photo of themselves and write their name on the back. Give a week's notice (some people don't keep baby photos of themselves at their own home/ they have to ask parents)...and then give a reminder by email on the day before, if you can.
On baby shower day, leave a bag outside your door with a sign attached to it that says, "place your baby photo here, make sure name is on back."). that way, no one gets to see who the guest is that brought the big 10x13 photo. :-)
When guests have arrived, while they are chatting up/eating or have a helper do this... tape photos to a poster board and number each photo (write # on poster above each photo)....write your answers down on a separate paper and keep it with you.
when it's time to play game...spread the poster board(s) out or tape them to a wall. Give each guest a small sheet of paper and pen and to write down their guesses on which baby photo belongs to which guest....if all guests don't know each other -- make sure everyone is wearing a nametag so they can write the appropriate names down.
this is so much fun to see baby photos...to see how much we change or don't change over the years!
