I am so glad you asked this question. I am 32 and was starting to think the same thing about my skin.
Ok moms, I'm looking for a new face regimen. I have three kids (3yrs, 2yrs, and 11mo) and my face looks tired and dull, hormones have gotten the best of me. I'm in my early thirties and tired of looking older. My focus is age prevention, I know you can't stop aging but slowing it down would be nice. I eat healthy and I work out 6 days a week along with drinking tons of water...so I'm looking for the "right" face care products. I have normal skin (not to dry/sensitive or too oily) and I don't have acne. I've been using clinique and I'm not happy with it anymore. I'm looking for something I can walk into a store and purchase and not have to go through a sales rep. As of right now I've narrowed it down to the philosophy line, Peter Thomas Roth unwrinkle line, or Murad. Any suggestions, tips, or recommendations?
Thanks mom's!
I am so glad you asked this question. I am 32 and was starting to think the same thing about my skin.
Out of the three lines you mentioned, I liked Peter Thomas Roth the best. I've also been a big fan of the Dermalogica line.
Hope this helps.
Wash with Cetaphil gentle cleanse
Exfoliate with a gentle apricot scrub (I go 2-3x/ week)
Moisturize with Cetaphil facial lotion.
the above was from my dermatologist who is a nut about clean, healthy skin.
I also use a night cream from ROC with Retinol. I'm forever getting compliments on my skin.
For me, after using lots of expensive products, Cetaphil has been by far and away the best I've used for cleaning/moisturizing....adding a scrub to exfoliate and a retinol cream help keep the 'glow' :)
The line can make a difference, but I get a facial every 2-3 weeks and I find that helps more than spending a trillion dollars on facial products. I get compliments on my skin constantly, even with 3 young kids and hormone issues. I rarely use make-up and if I do, it's Bare Minerals....so my skin can breathe. I like Dermalogica and I love the Skin Smoothing Cream from them. I also take good quality vitamins, not One-A-Day or junk like that. Nordic Naturals has, in my opinion, the best fish oils and I use the DHA Prenatal for the extra D and E it contains which my skin LOVES.
I use Philosophy's "Purity" Cleanser, "Hope" moisturizer, and "When Hope is not Enough" serum at nightime - you only need a few eye drops of it.
Philosophy is a great product. When money is tight, I will sub Cerave for the Hope moisturizer, but always stay with the Purity cleanser. Good luck!
I am 47 and have been using Philosophy for about 10 yrs now, and have barely any wrinkles.
Hi LT! I'm J. and I am the Beauty Sylist at Nordstrom Northpark. I would love to take a look at your skin and talk about what products would work best for you. You can call me at ###-###-#### ext. 3881 if you have time for a consultation. Thanks!
I know you said you don't want to go through sales reps, BUT Mary Kay has an INCREDIBLE skincare line. Their microdermabrasion set paired with the Timewise Miracle set does wonders. They carry many products that are comparable to Bare Minerals, but at a fraction of the cost. Many reps have it on hand and ready for you when you call or email...no waiting required. I personally have a website and am able to ship anywhere in the US. Good luck in your search.
You might want to look into Melaleuca, they have some great products. also Maybe Olay..........
Do you take vitamins, if not, I would suggest that too......
Take care.
I also love the Mary Kay stuff, but that definitely calls for a sales rep. Before I started using Mary Kay, I loved Cetaphil cleanser and Kiehl's moisturizer. Whatever you use for your daily regimen, a good alpha hydroxy acid or glycolic acid product will give you that glow you want. I use NeoStrata that I got at my dermatologist's office. One bottle lasts me for years, because I only use a tiny bit at night a few times a week. Used in conjunction with the Mary Kay Timewise skin care, it makes my skin look amazing. I'm in my forties, but my skin looks like it's in its twenties.
Hope this helps.
Run, don't walk, to the nearest Merle Norman place of business.
I have settled on three products that I am very happy with.
- St. Ives Apricot Scrub, which I use periodically in the shower
- Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 anti-aging cleanser (wet cleansing cloths) which I use at night before bed
- Jergens Natural Glow healthy complexion daily facial moisturizer with SPF20 and a gradual tanning (not orange), which I use every day.
I am happy with my skin with these products and have no plan to change. You can find them at drug stores.
I have also found that Burt's Bees Royal Jelly eye cream works well, and there was an Olay skin renewing cream that seemed to make some of my fine lines less visible, but I have sensitive eyes and had to abandon those products when my eyes became red.
I really like Image skin care. It is only sold in salons and day spas. I got hooked on it, when an esthetician I used to see, used their products. Their products are amazing! You may have to call them to find out, who in your area carries their brand. Heres a link to their website. www.imageskincare.com
If you want to go the medical spa route for an instant skin rejuvenation, I recommend a CO2 Laser treatment from Plano Aesthetics. http://planoaesthetics.com/smart-xide-dot.htm
I'm still breastfeeding, but when I'm done, I'm going to look into this for myself.
I encourage you to sign up for their newsletter; they often have specials.
Afterwards, Cetaphil is very gentle and effective. I switched to it from Clinique.
Arbonne's Re-9 works great. It is expensive, but one kit lasts for 6 months.
I use Dr. Murad and love it. Anything with Vit. C really helps to brighten your face. There is a product by Ole Hendrickson, called Truth Serum. Its really great- I use it with Murad. Go to Sephora and talk to some one there. They have always helped me. And the best part is that if you don't like the products you can return them.
Bare Minerals face cleanser leaves my skin feeling like I am 15 again.
If you can afford - SKII. I have been using this for the last 5 years and absolutely love it. It's not cheap, and you can only buy then at SAKS 5 in DFW area, but it's worth every penny. I have used Philosophy, Kiehl in between because of SKII's price, but always ended up going back and paid more.
Other than facial cream, my doc recommends Retin A at night and strong (min of SPF30) sunscreen during the day.
There are many terrific face regimens. I use Timeless Prescription and love it. My theory is that beautiful skin starts from the inside. Dull skin and hair may be an indication that you are vitamin deficient. I would take a free NutriPhysical and at least try the product OPC Beauty Blend. You can find them as well as the Timeless Prescription at my favorite site: http://www.macash4shop.com. Don't forget to sign up as a preferred customer so that you can earn cashback for your purchases. It's a free service with no limits. Hope this helps.

Murad has a line called Resurgence. It is for hormonal aging. I really think that it works. It was found by me from watching an infomercial. You have to become a member of the club, but I have found that they are so incredibly easy to work with. If you want a shipment every 30 days, fine. If you want it every 60 days, 102 days, whatever, they are cool with it, no hassles at all. I love the way it makes my skin feel, and the eye cream is incredible. I can see a difference in the appearance of my crow's feet, and my dark circles are lightening as well. Worth a try at least. And if it doesn't work for you there is a money back gaurantee. Good luck to you!
