I don't know what you mean with "chart routines." It's not hard. When you get home, someone starts dinner and the other helps with homework. If only one of you are home, then you do one and then the other, unless you can give your LO the instructions and he/she is able to work a little independently so you can cook while he/she is working on the homework.

It will take some getting used to, but all working parents figure it out - we have no choice!

Are you asking when to do homework? I suggest that you try different times to S. what works best for your family. Doing it when you first get home works for some but it doesn't work for my grandchildren. They need some time to get settled at home. So do the parents. What has worked for them is after everyone gets settled(15 or so minutes) is for one parent to sit with the child to help with homework while the other one fixes dinner.

As a kindergartner (s)he needs to have someone sit with him to help keep him focused. And they need the parent to be in a good mood so that homework is experienced in a positive way. Thus, it may work better to do the homework after dinner.

What is the nature of the homework, and how much? If it's reading or being read to, it's easy to work in right before bedtime as part of the bedtime story routine. If it's written work, I found that one of my kids did it best right after school, while the other one needed some play time first, so we made 4:00 "homework o'clock."

One thing to take a look at, though - is this homework appropriate for kindergartners to begin with? Research supports giving kids no more than 10 minutes of homework per grade level, which means that your kindergartner should be receiving no more than 10 minutes' worth. Homework (if given at all) should be a review/firming up of material covered in class, and kids should receive timely feedback on the homework from their teacher.

Get posterboard and chart out the chores that need to be done, in the order that they need to be done. If possible, ask the teacher if she can laminate it for you! Or print out a small one on a sheet of paper - one for the week probably. Ideas to put on there for when you get home:
Hang up backpack
Snacktime (15 minutes)
Homework time (30 minutes)
TV time (30 minutes)
Help set the table (5 minutes)
Brush Teeth
Pajamas!

I googled "charts for kindergarteners" and found this site. I've printed 2-folds greeting cards for my son to color. They're very basic templates, but may help you get an idea or two. http://www.dltk-cards.com/chart/

added: Okay it took me like 2 minutes to make a chart using the site above. Very easy. You can get one week on a page. The only bummer is that your child doesn't have a PICTURE next to each chore. If you make your own chart using WORD or EXCELL, maybe you can add a simple clipart so he/she knows what each chore says.
