Hi All! I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to deal with depression? It's not post partum, but things in my life have just been spiraling downhill lately and I can't seem to get myself out of a funk. And, it doesn't help that I don't know anyone really to talk to and my mom just tells me that I'm young and going through life and I'll get through it. Even though, I'm young and just going through life...things are still hard and it's still hard to get through. Anyone have any ideas?

What can I do next?

Cassie,
talk to your doctor you may need an antidepressant to make it over the hump. I had to go that route and it ended up being the best thing I could have done for myself and my family. Believe it or not your daughter can pick up on your emotions, so your depression is affecting her as well.

Have you ever tried prayer? I am not sure of your religous preference, but it works. I will be praying for you!
Do you work out? Sometimes getting up in the morning and working out is a great way to start the day and feel better about yourself. Good luck!

C., I know how hard it is to be in a rut and feel depresed. i also know how hard it is to feel like you just can't get out of it. first of all don't expect to have a great day every day. but i have found some things that make some days better. do something for yourself. get someone to watch your daughter for a couple of hours and go get a cup of coffee, or go shopping, or take yourself to a movie, get your toes done, anything to make yourself feel better! when you get up on the morning make a decision that you are going to have a great day! it doesn't always work, but at least you've give it a shot!! hahaha and most of all enjoy your daughter! i know how hard it is to be a mom. i have 2 and i am married, and it is hard, i couldn't imagine doing it by myself, so kudos to you! but just remember that she will grow up really fast, so always remember how precious these years are. it is really hard to forget that and get irritated with them...trust me i know! try to join s mom's group....go to meetup.com and see what you can find. hope this helps! keep smiling!!

having a young child and being a single mom is extremely difficult. have you thought about putting her in a daycare for a few hours a day? you need a break. everybody does...it is hard to tend to a young child by yourself day in and day out, all the time. by all means, look into this before you go to your doctor for anti-depressants. they work but why take medication if you don't have to?
