L.A.
Both of my babies, 4 years apart, weighed 6 lbs 15 oz. One of them was 20in the other 21.
My friends babies all got smaller with each one and she has 3.
I have read somewhere that second (and sometimes 3rd) babies tend be bigger than the woman had the first time around. I had a 9lb. 3 oz. baby in November 2007, and am expecting #2 in March 2011. Just curious how many of you followed this trend?
Thanks!
Both of my babies, 4 years apart, weighed 6 lbs 15 oz. One of them was 20in the other 21.
My friends babies all got smaller with each one and she has 3.
I followed the trend.
1st - boy - 8lbs 3 oz
2nd - girl - 9lbs
Even though my daughter was bigger, the delivery was easier.
My three girls were all very close in weight and all full term.
#1 6lbs. 6oz.
#2 6lbs. 14oz.
#3 6lbs. 9oz.
Not me (thank goodness!).
1st = 10 lbs
2nd = 8.5 lbs
No idea why. DH and I are small people.
I only had one living baby (and CURSE electronic scales)... here's his *actual* weight:
9lb 15.996 oz. (So I say 10lb.) 23" long
My first and only was small...6lbs 9oz (I keep wondering why it took 19 hours to get her out) BUT a friend of mine just has her second 11lbs. 9oz. by c-section at 39 weeks.
I had only one 8 lb. daughter, so can't answer, but had a chuckle over your question that juxtaposes the words "fun" and "big" and "babies."
:-O
I only have one kiddo, 9lbs.10.5oz. However, my mom had 3, each of us bigger than the last and by the time my sister was born, she was so big she didn't fit under the hospital baby blanket (she was a 10lbs14oz). The nurses nicknamed my sister Brunhilda...
I can't speak from personal experience but my mother in law's 1st (my hubby) was 9lbs. Her 2nd was 12lbs! This was before ultrasound so they had no idea she was that big, the doctor had guessed a little over 10 pounds. Boy was he wrong! She delivered vaginally by the way, with no epidural.
I had twins at 38 weeks that measured 8lbs 7oz and 7lbs 13oz. Yep, that's a whopping 16lbs 4oz!!
We're expecting baby #3, so it'll be fun to see how big our singleton is!
1.) boy 8 lbs. 5 oz
2.) boy 8 lbs. 6 oz.
3.) girl 8 lbs. 1 oz.
i only have one little one and she was 8lbs 15oz and 19 1/2 in long :) she was 1 week and 1 day over due.
Baby #1: 6 and a half lbs
Baby #2 9lbs 4 oz
BOTH 3 weeks EARLY!
First son 7lbs13oz-22"long
Second Son 9lbs 7oz-19 1/4" long. (Had gestational diabetes with him)
Boys are from two different fathers.
Pregnant with third, a girl, we shall see how big she is in January!
Mine went the opposite way - 9lb 4oz , 8lb and 6lb 1oz
I personally only have one. He was a month preme and he was 4lbs 13 oz.... my sister had a boy who is 7 now and he was 7lbs 6 oz and then a daughter 18 months later and she was 5 lbs even. I am the youngest of five my oldest sister who is 33 now was the heaviest and she was 7lbs 9 oz then my brother who was 7 lbs even then my sister who was 2lbs 3 oz. (4 months preme) then my other brother who was 3lbs4oz (3 months preme) <~~ was the first baby ever in st john neonatal unit. then me and i was 4lbs 13 oz..... so i'm not totally sure if its true about 2nd babies being bigger......
kimmie
# 1 was 8 lbs 13 oz (on time)
#2 was 7 lbs 6 oz (3 weeks and 1 day early)
I am convinced he was destined to be at least 9 lbs, so he was mercifully born early. :)
I have 3 boys age 14 he was 5lb 110z 2 weeks early
age 4 yrs 7lb 30z
and almost 5 months 7lb 11 oz almost 16 1/2 lbs already
First - 11 pound girl
Second - 9 pound 7 ounce boy
Third - 8 pound 5 ounce boy
All were 22"
Only last one was c-section due to his heart rate dropping suddenly shortly after I was induced.
I don't know if my experience counts since both of mine were induced. My daughter was my first and she was induced at 41 weeks and was 7 lbs 8 oz. My son was induced at 39 weeks (so, he came earlier than she did) and he was only 6 lbs. 9 oz. But, since he didn't go full term, I don't know if he would have been bigger than her or not. Interesting question! I hadn't heard that theory before. It will be neat to read the other responses.
well my second was quite a lot smaller - and both full term
1st - 8lb 9 oz
2nd - 7lb 10 oz
1st 6'13 oz 21 inches
2nd 8'1 oz 20 inches
3rd 7'5 oz 19 1/4 inches
all boys, you just never know! and EVERYONE told me how huge my last baby was going to be, because my belly was so big lol
My daughter was 6lbs 7 oz and my son was 7 lbs 14 oz.
My first son was 7 lbs. My second son, three years later, was 9 lbs. 13 oz.
I had my first child at 41 weeks and she was 9lbs 2oz. I was induced with my second child at 37 weeks due to health reasons and he was only 6lbs 12oz. I know that gestational age has tons to do with this so really #2 would have been much larger if I had him at 41 weeks. But for us, it just was not possible and too risky.
First (girl) - 6lbs 9 oz
Second (girl) - 6 lbs 2 oz
Third (boy) - 7 lbs 6 oz
#1 was born on her due date; #2 was 16 days early and #3 was 10 days early.
#1 7lbs 14oz
#2 8lbs 6oz
#3 8lbs 4 oz
#4 9lbs
#5 8lbs 15oz
First (Boy) -- 5 lbs 13 oz.
I sure HOPE my second is bigger (for baby's sake)
First boy, 2 weeks late, 8lbs, 7oz, second boy 25 weeks, 1lb 11oz, third child, girl, born on her due date, 6lbs even
My 2nd baby weighed 6oz more than the first.
My 1st (girl) 7 lbs 1 oz
My 2nd (boy) 9lbs
First(B) 7 pounds 14 ounces... 21 inches
Second(G) 6 pounds 1 ounce... 16 inches
girl in 1982 10lb's 2 oz was 24 inches long
boy in 1988 9 lb's 5 oz was 23 1/2 inches long
boy 1990 9 lb's 2 oz was 21 inches long
boy 1995 9 lb's 13 oz was 22 1/2 inches long
my only daughter was 9lbs 3oz and 22 in long.
Both of my children we induced a week and a half early.
My son was 8lb 13 oz
My daughter was 8 lb 6 oz.
You can hope that you follow MY trend...my first was 9lb 12 oz, 6 years later, 9 lbs 7 oz and my final "little one' was "only " 9lb 4 oz!!!
My son 8#11 oz 21 in.
My daughter 9#4oz 20.5 in
My OB told me that the best way to know whether or not your baby will be bigger is to compare it to your last pregnancy. Usually if the baby feels bigger, then it is.
Congrats on baby #2!!!!
boy 8lbs. 12oz.
girl 6lbs. 14oz.
Both were born on the same day gestation at 39 weeks.
1st - 9lb, 10oz - girl
2nd - 10lbs, 6 oz - boy
3rd - 8lbs 4 oz - girl
but all were 2 weeks late
first- 7.3oz, 19 1/2in
second- 8.9oz, 21in
1st Born: 7lb 14 ounces, 22 inches ---boy (37 weeks)
#2 Due in Dec, but she is already measuring big
1st 7lbs, 14oz
2nd 8lbs, 1oz
3rd 7lbs, 15 oz
All about the same and all 1 to 2 weeks early!
My older 2 were around 7lbs 9oz. my 3rd was 6lbs. My youngest was born 3 weeks before her due date so if she was closer to her due date she might have been a bit bigger.
My 1st boy was 6lbs 11oz. he was born two days before his due date. My 2nd boy was 5lbs 6 oz. he was born 2 weeks early.
8 lbs 3 oz (5 days late)
9 lbs 1 oz (6 days late)
6 lbs 13 oz (10 days early)
That trend isn't true for everyone but was for me and my mother
1st - 8lbs 3oz
2nd 9lbs 4 oz
My first child was less than 7 pounds.
My second child was exactly 7 pounds.
My third child was 9 pounds.
We called her MOOSE for a few weeks.
1.8.7
2.8.1
3.7.13
Both of my boys were born at 42 weeks at just over 8 pounds. The only difference was that my first one was longer
9 lb, 6 oz.
9 lb. 14 oz.
and 10 lb. 6 oz.
So yes, each baby got successively bigger.
#1- 6lb 15oz girl, 4 days late
#2- 7lb 5oz boy, 2wks early
#3- 6lb 5oz girl, 10 days early
#4-6lb 8oz boy, 2wks early
#5-6lb 15oz boy, 12 days early
#6-6lb 9oz boy, 10 days early
#7-6lb 9oz girl, 6 days early
#8- 6lb 9oz boy, 3wks early
3 in a row at 6lb 9oz....looks like my body found it's niche at about 6 1/2lbs!
7lb 11oz and 21 inches long and 7lbs 10 and 21 inches long and they both had the same size head. :)
boy: 7lbs7oz (3 weeks late)
boy: 7lbs9oz (3 weeks early)
boy: 8lbs4oz (2 weeks late)
girl: 9lbs2oz (1+ week late)
First born- born at 42 weeks 9 pounds and a quarter ounce (boy)
Second born- born at 37 weeks 8 pounds and 14 ounces (boy)
Third born- born at 38 weeks 8 pounds 8 ounces (girl)
.
Both of my kids were 7lb 12oz
Son was born at 37 weeks, 21 inches long
Daughter was born at 41 weeks, 19 inches long
1st - boy, 39 wks - 5lbs 8oz
2nd - girl, 39.5 wks - 7lbs 11oz
My first boy was 9lbs 13oz (23 inches) - born at 39 weeks
My second boy was 9lbs 3oz (21.3 inches) - born at 38 weeks
...I think they would have been close if I had gone another week or so with #2...and #3 will be here in January, another little boy, I hope he is about the same or less!
1st 9lbs 5 days late (boy)
2nd 8lbs 4 days early (girl)
3rd 9.8oz 3 days early(girl)
My 3rd was my easiest delivery. Baby 2 and 3 were a different daddy than my 1st.
my son was 9 lb 8 oz and 20 inches long.
Super easy delivery! I'm hoping the next one will be easy too :)
son 1 was 8 lbs 7 oz 16 days after due date
son 2 was 8 lbs 6 oz 10 days before due date
1st- 7 lbs 1 oz 20 inches---2 days early (boy)
2nd- 6lbs 13oz 19 1/2 inches---2 weeks early (girl)
my precious babies were small first one was 6 lbs 8 oz and the second one was 5lbs 9oz both right on time.
My son was 2 weeks early and was 10lbs 3oz and 24in long my daughter was 2nd and was 1 week early 8lbs 11oz 20in and I'm not a big person lol
I only have one child (born 7 lbs. 6 oz.). But my older sister was a fairly normal weight baby, however when I was born I was 10lbs. 13oz.! So it sounds pretty true to me.
Oldest Son: 7#14oz. 20 in. 1 day early
Youngest Son: 9#6oz. 20 in. 1 week overdue (induced)
Daughter: 8#1oz 19 1/2 in. 2 days overdue (induced)
My dr induced me so early with my daughter because of the size my middle child was. My dr didnt want to risk me having a 10 pound baby.
I had twins vaginally at 35 weeks and they were 5lbs 13 oz and 5lbs 11oz. 2 years 10 days later at 37 weeks I had my daughter and she was 6lbs 3oz.
My first was 8lbs 7oz and 21 inches (2 weeks over - induced)
My second was 9lbs 7oz and 21 inches (2 weeks over - induced)
Want a #3 but scared as hell it will be 10lbs 7oz, ha ha!
1st - girl born at 36 weeks weighed 5 lb 15 oz, 18.5 inches long
2nd - girl born at 39 weeks weighed 7 lb 6 oz, 20.5 inches long
And the first one did more damage!
I had three boys:
1) 5 lb 13 oz - 34 weeks
2) 8 lb 7 oz- 36 weeks
3) 8 lb 11 oz- 37 weeks
My first was 10 lbs. 6 oz, but the second was only 10 lbs 2 oz. I was induced 2 weeks early with my first because he was getting so big, and the 2nd was another c-section and we had to schedule it 3 weeks early because my dr. was going to be gone, so I guess the 2nd could have been bigger if we waited another week!
My first baby in 1999 was born weighing 7lb 1/2 ounce. My second baby in 2004 was born weighing 7lb 5ounces. So yes to me that looks like they get bigger the more you have. Good luck with your bubs. Regards K.
Mine all got smaller, had 3 and each one was smaller. I think it is because your first you say Im eating for 2, which is true to a point. Its what you eat, so you get bigger and so does baby. Each child I learned more and was better for the baby and the labor was better to. When you get to fat your labor is much harder. Eat healthly so baby will be at good weight and so will you.
My first (boy) was just under 10lbs and my second (girl) was only 6lbs 8oz. They were both full term and healthy I think it just depends on the baby.
My daughter was 4 days past the due date and she weighed 9 lbs 4 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. My 2nd pregnancy I just felt it was a boy and the midwives (3 in this practice) kept saying "Boys are usually bigger." And they swore this one was bigger than my first and I kept saying, nope...it's a boy and he's smaller, I can feel it. My son was 10 days past the due date weighing 8 and a half pounds, also 20.5 inches. Mama's intuition!! The midwives/nurses were flabbergasted. I TOLD them so!
My son was born on his due date 8.12. My daughter was a scheduled c-section, and was therefore a week early 8.2. I'm not sure if she would have been as big or bigger than brother since he had an extra week to cook.
Wow, 9 lb 3 oz! My son (born in 2005) was 7 lb 14 oz. My daughter (born in 2007) was 7 lb 12 oz. My husbands cousin's first baby was 10 lb 12 oz; with pregnancy #2, she had twins whose weights added up to about 11 lb. They have a fourth baby, but I don't kow how much she weighed at birth. I think that many times, second babies weigh more, but I don't know why. Congratulation on your new addition, best of luck with your pregnancy/delivery.
Mine went down!
My first baby, girl 9.7, long in length with a huge head (daddy's body type), second baby, boy 8.7 ( more my body type),
3rd, girl, 8.2. more my body shape but daddys dense muscles, very dense bones and muscular! although she weighed less at birth she was my "heaviest" baby and it was hard to carry her around. She kicked in the womb like a football player and I thought she was going to be a boy!
She wears a size larger than my first did at the same age.
Not true at all! I had 4 children my first was 9lb 1 1/2 oz and my second was 8 lb 11 1/2 oz and my third child was 9 lb 11 1/2 oz and my fourth child was 8 lb 5 oz. So as you can see the babies do not necessarily get bigger each time my did not. I just had some big babies and it looks like your first one was big too! Congradulations! Don't worry about this now this baby could be tiny you just never know. Have fun with your little ones now. Take Care!
My second (8#11oz) that was a week past the EDD was smaller than the first (9#2oz) and my third was bigger (9#6oz)...expecting #4 in March, who knows? I think a lot of moms are more relaxed the second time around and may not pay attention to their eating habits as much, and they are running around after a toddler. Strange though that I gained the least amount of weight with my biggest baby.
My first was 10lbs 3oz, and the easy delivery! (boy)
My second was a harder delivery at 8lbs 4oz, but she came 2 weeks early. (girl)
Congratulations!
My first was 6lbs 12oz, 18 inches long. My second was 8lbs 4oz 19 inches long. And my 3rd and 4th were exactly the same size 7lbs 12oz. 20.5 inches long. Talk about an even oven :)
There was 19 months between 1 & 2, 2.5 years between 2 & 3, 4.5 years between 3 & 4. ALL BOYS!!!
Every one of them was born 2-3 weeks early due to pre-eclampsia.
My 1st, a boy, was 8 lb 4 oz.
My 2nd, a girl, was 6 lb 12 oz.
I think it all depends on the baby, and maybe what you eat during pg?? I know I didn't eat NEARLY as much ice cream with DD than I did with DS;-)
#1 Twin born at 35 weeks 5 pounds 6 oz
#2 Twin born at 35 weeks 5 pounds 7oz
#3 41 weeks 8lbs. 5 oz.
6# 7oz.-two weeks overdue
7# 7oz.-8 days late
7# 7oz.-2 days early
My first was born at exactly 39 weeks and weighed 6 lbs 6 ounces. My second was born 38 weeks 3 days and weighed 6 lbs 15 ounces.
First one: Girl, 34 1/2 weeks, 5 lbs 11 oz, 19 1/2"
Second one: Boy, 39 weeks, 8 lbs 8 oz, 21 1/2"
We kind of figured that if my daughter had of gone full term, she would have been big too.
Both my husband and I were just over 7 lbs when born. We're not sure where the big babies came from!
My first was 6lb 1oz and my second was 6lb 12oz. Good luck with your new baby on the way! :)
1st girl, 2 weeks overdue, 7.7
2nd girl, 1 week early, 6.13
First was 7lbs. Due date kept being changed so really had no idea what her due date was. I had her being born right on time.
Second was 10lbs. Induced on her due date. HUGE head!!!!
Wow! You have a lot of responses! :o) Fun!
My first son - 3 days late - 8lbs 2 oz
Second son - 1 day late - 7lbs 9 oz
#1 35 weeks boy 5 pounds 17 inches
#2 38 weeks girl 8 pounds 2 ounces 20 inches
#3 37 weeks boy 7 pounds 5 ounces 22 inches
#1 was 7 2
#2 was 7 6
#3 was 8 4
Baby boy #1 (6 days late) - 7 lbs, 9 oz., 18 inches long
Baby boy #2 (2 days early) - 8 lbs, 12 oz., 20.5 inches long. We were very surprised at his size, especially since my docs had estimated that he was about the same size as my first. He's kept it up and was 12 pounds at 6 weeks!
i've only had 1 successful pregnancy. a boy- he weighed 8 pounds 2.5 ounces. very difficult labor & delivery- we ended up having a csection because he went into distress. i ended up having to be put under because my epidural didnt want to work and i woke up in the most exruciating pain i've ever felt in my life! 4 months later, my incision still hurts and they just keep telling me it's "normal". i say bologna and have an appointment for a 2nd opinion next week.
