So i just answered the phone at work, and instead of saying "Good afternoon, company name" I said "Good Afternoon Sandwiches" , LOL. I have no idea where that came from! I had the stomach flu yesterday and havent eaten much so I guess I have food on the brain. Thankfully the person on the other end just laughed. Have you ever done this? What did you say?

What can I do next?

Nikki, I to have told a solicitor that I loved them. I say it to everyone i care about, my husband, sisters, etc so we were getting ready to say bye after graciously telling them i was not interested 100 times so i said okay love you bye. After I hung up i laughed for a while at myself and what the guy at the other end was like. I still smile about that one.

One time I said "I love you" to some courtesy call. I don't know WHERE that came from.

"Hello?"
"Hi, this is a courtesy call from blah blah."
"Uh huh"
"I wanted to check to see if your needs were met by blah blah."
"Uh huh"
"Do let us know if we can be of any further assistance."
"OK"
"You have a great day!"
"Ok, love you, bye!"

Years ago, before computers were very often used, my co-worker was struggling with a letter on her typewriter. She had pulled it and started over several times. She was concentrating really hard on this letter, and I was filing, so when the phone rang, she picked it up and said "Dear Sirs..." I started laughing right away, which made HER laugh, and neither of us could answer the damn phone, so our boss stuck her head out and saw us and grabbed the phone and answered it. Then after the call, both of us have tears running down our faces and our boss asked us what the heck? Then SHE was laughing hysterically..... Ah - good times!

I once answered the phone, thinking it was my husband calling back from work, when I was really REALLY testy. He had called me four or five times already that day and I was just tired.

So, I pick up the receiver and yell "WHAT?!".

Turns out it was my mother in law. WHOOPS!

I also answered the phone the other day mid sentence. It went like this, "You sit your--hello?--bum back down in that chair right now!". Caller said "Excuse me?" and then I laughed like crazy.

I answer the phone at work the same "good morning/afternoon, company name". I once answered it that way at home!! The caller says "oh, I'm sorry, I must have the wrong #". I have no clue who called but it was pretty funny!

My exes family owns funeral homes. Every now and then he would answer our home phone as if he was at work. Got rid of a lot of phone solicitors that way.

In fact just Tuesday! I was in the middle of dealing with a double screwup at a major mail order pharmaceutical; this company is a client of my husband's. Previously my husband gave me a few high level names to include on complaint emails. So when the phone rang and caller ID indicated a local number for the pharmaceutical company, I thought it was hubby calling from the client. I picked up and immediately asked, "so did you lose your job yet?" It was a senior customer service rep just following up with me on my complaint. Scared the pants off her I'm sure; figured she was dealing with a VERY irate customer! LOL!!

I answered the phone at work one day (Customer Service/Sales Dept) and the only thing that came out was a huge BURP! Now I am not a burper and I'm not sure where it came from or what caused it, but it was loud. I just disconnected the call and was between laughing and being so embarrassed.

When I was temping a lot I sometimes answered the phones of one company by saying: "Good Morning" saying the last company I worked for name.

We only human....Blessings...

just the other day the phone rang while i was still sleeping. i remember the last thing from the dream was that I was talking to my high school best friend. i answered the call without looking who it was and started speaking in my language. i said quite a few words and my all american friend started laughing and said hey you're talking in some foreign language. it took me a few seconds to realize what i was saying hahaha. so i switched to english. she wanted to know what i had said in my language and i said i told her that i said i just woke up, i am very sleepy, i am getting coffee and will call you right back.
THAT has not happened to me in years.
THEN today i am running like a crazy person to get the kids ready for the beach, so as i am going back and fourth rooms, i stopped looked at them and told them to do something in my language (which my kids don't speak). they both looked at me and one said:
i'd love to if i understood what you're exactly asking for. hahahaha to me that just means a long overdue trip back home.

Once I couldn't remember the word you were supposed to answer with (Hello??)
I used to be a draftsman back in the day when it was done by hand. Two guys kept talking near me. I looked down at my drawing and realized instead of the instructions I was to put on there, I had recorded part of their conversation.

These are too funny!! This wasn't answering a phone call but it's along the same lines. At my very first job as a 16 year old I worked at Wendy's and I was in charge of the drive thru. One evening I answered the bell with "Welcome to McDonald's, how can I help you?".....the customer was like, "Uh.....I thought I was at Wendy's......." LOL.....

Yep, I was talking to someone and answered the phone, "Thank you for calling Commercial Federal this is Jeremy...wait no it isn't"

I worked at Bank A but answered, "This is bank B...wait no it isn't"

I worked at an out let store and we always answered "Bass Pro outlet store" only to be asked, "Is the the outlet store?" Really annoying. So on my last day this conversation took place.

"Bass Pro outlet store, this is Jen how can I help you?"
"Is this the outlet store?"
"Well it was when I answered the phone but not anymore"
"Oh do you have the number to the outlet store?"
"Sure do it's (gave the number)"
"Ok thanks!"

She hangs up and called right back, I was laughing so hard someone else answered the phone. My boss was not amused but hey, it was my last day right?

I'm an Office Manager at a veterinary clinic and I am constantly answering the phone, "Name of Clinic, this is A., How may I help you?" I find myself answering phone calls from friends and family the same way and doing that when I leave messages "This is A. from name of clinic" and always ending with "thank you and have a nice day" I never thought I would be able to bring my work home with me but I guess I was wrong.

You know how you have to fill out your name, address and phone number just to get some online information? Well, for quite some time now, my husband and I have been filling out our dog's name. Russell Peeker. Before we were on the 'Do Not Call' list, we'd get tons of calls for him. Some times we'd say, "Just a moment" and put the phone down and walk away. Other times we'd tell that telemarketer just where he was and what he was doing and why he couldn't come to the phone; "He's busy poopin' in the back yard right now." Of course he is.

When I was single I used to answer my home phone "joe's pizza". And people calling for the first time would hang up, call again, and sometimes do it a few times! Hahaha! I haven't done that in awhile but remember it used to be so funny!
