JFF- Do You Ever Cheat on Your Hair Stylist?

I need my hair cut in the WORST way. Problem is, my hair stylist is 30 min away, usually doesnt have time for pop ins, and I pretty much never know when my husband will be home at night. I am lucky if hes home by 8pm.
Im thinking, if I get a second this weekend to get away from kids, I am just going to run up to one of those in and out places and get a trim.
I know when I see my hair stylist next month for color, she is going to know. You think she would care? I have been seeing her for over 10 years now.
Im a cheater! Sorry!

What can I do next?

It's not you, it's me...I just wanted something more...I just need some space to find myself...If the phone doesn't ring, it's probably me...I wish we had met 5 years down the line...Can we just drive by my ex's place? I just want to see if there's anyone there...Oh wait---you're feeling like cheating, not breaking up?

Awesome: I'm glad to know others feel that's a term to use....I always feel a little guilty like I "cheated" on my stylist, and I know that she can tell! However, my guilt was alleviated by just saying the truth: she mentioned "these aren't my layers...who'd you go to?" My answer was, "I tried you several times but you've gotten so in demand these days! I had an event to go to and was desperate enough to go slumming. As you can see. I'm back now". She just smiled real big and went on with the haircut. It made her feel good about herself, kept the guilt off me, I didn't have to worry that she'd get revenge by doing something in the back that I wouldn't know about (ha!). Win-win.

I have terribly difficult to cut/style hair... so I AM INCREDIABLY loyal to my stylist.

Less because of who they are as a person, and far more because they have a true gift. My last stylist I was with for 9 years (she retired), this one for 3.

My current stylist is undergoing chemo, and while I could go through another very gifted stylist I'd rather be too long for a month or two and wait for her... I figure she needs every penny she can get right now working part time through her cancer treatments... so I suppose what I said about 'as a person' isn't entirely accurate.

I have. And then I usually confess. LOL

Just do it then tell your regular that you couldn't stand it any more and you were passing an xyz and popped in for a trim.

They really don't care! (It's harder for us--the 'guilt'!)

I'm sure you've lined her pockets with enough money in 10 yrs to make it convenient and easy on yourself to have another stylist do your hair from time to time!

I don't think she would care. I recently had to do that with mine. My hair grows super fast and I have to get it cut pretty regularly. I was on vacation, then my stylist was on vacation and I could not make our schedules work.....SO, I was DESPERATE and had to get into somebody for a one time cut. When I went back to mine and confessed, her response was "when you need a cut, you need a cut...don't ever feel guilty".

She made the point that if I just disappeared on her without a word, that would probably sting a little, but a one time thing here and there is fine. I'm sure yours would feel the same way given the circumstances.

I have seen other stylists. Mine is now 4 hours away...talk about planning an appt! I always fess up that I saw someone else or trimmed my bangs myself, partly because I'm never happy with the other people's work so she needs to fix it to the way I like. If it's a popular stylist who is too busy for pop-in's, then it's not like she's reliant on you for income.

Once every few years or so.

But then again, it's hard to cheat on myself, yah know?

I never cheat. I love my stylist, and have difficult hair. I would be terrified to go somewhere else. The only reason I would go somewhere else would be if I HAD to find a new stylist, like if mine was moving away or something horrible like that.

I had been seeing mine for over 15 yrs.. Like yours, a pop in was NEVER allowed OR evening a morning haircut, which would have been better for me but it never was for her. However, I was loyal and catered to her schedule.. then , most recently, like you , needing a haircut on the spot and not wanting to make an appointment, I went to my son's barber... low and behold, BEST cut I EVER had.. I get more compliments for this very much less expensive cut than I ever did paying more. I even color it myself and get more compliments.. I texted my hairdresser, told her I needed to cut back on spending (which is totally true) and although she was kind enough to offer a discount, which still wasn't as cheap at the place I go to now, even if it was, my cut is just so much better, that I will stick with the new barber.... change IS a good thing.. you were loyal for 10 yrs... that helped your stylist pay a lot of bills.. you prob even gave referrals, I know I did.....
do what YOU need to do... text her, let her know.... and don't worry about it too much..

Never, but I'm super paranoid about getting my hair cut too short. Be careful going to an in and out place, they usually don't get it even and then you will be upset if you wear your hair straight. Personally, I would make an appt. for the next day your husband is off work.
