JFF: When Was the Last Time You Got a Hair Cut?

Updated on June 24, 2012

Ugh.
I badly need one... my hair has grown so long, past the middle of my back. And it is thick/wavy.
I think the last time I cut my hair was like 6 months ago.
But I don't want to spend $40+ for a hair cut, plus tip.
And well like many Moms, we spend our money on our kids, for our kids. Necessities etc.

My hair is au naturale. Not dyed or anything. So I don't have to worry about upkeep costs for that.
But just a darn hair cut.

But I don't have much money to gayly spend on "extra" stuff.

So when is the last time, you had a hair cut?

Gee, and so many Moms get pedicures too with cute little designs on it!
How's that?
I have never had one. I do it myself.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My hair is long now... being I have not cut it recently.
But many people admire my hair... it is long and wavy and thick and grows fast.
So it does not look terrible or unkept.

I have tried those SuperCuts places. They cannot cut my hair, well.
This one woman I go to who cuts my hair... CAN handle my hair and cuts it per how it grows and is. My hair is very thick and wavy and it is layered. She gives a good cut. I have been to many hair stylists... and they could not manage my hair and per the way it grows. And it grows out terribly.
The woman I go to now, is just in my neighborhood, and is relatively "cheap" as compared to those other salons. And her hair cuts grows out really well and nice. Even after 6 months of not cutting my hair, I can tell it was a good cut because it grows out well and still holds its shape and lines.
I just can't pay $40 bucks for it, now.
So still can't cut my hair, although it is just getting longer.... than usual

Well, I get my hair cut every 12 weeks - I have good hair and only get it cut to have the sytle refreshed, my stylist has to search for split ends. I do however get it dyed every 6-8 weeks due to grey hair and I do not like it on my 30yr old head, esp did not like it on my 20yr old head. I think once I am 50 or so I will let it go. Regarding my toes - my MIL takes me out all the time to get them done, the toes (polish and yes I get the fun designs) last me about 6ish weeks and if I actually do my foot routine I can make the bottom of my feet stretch. However it is my treat to get them done frequenly. If you want cute nails w/out all the hassle try the Kiss brand Nail Dresses LOVE THEM!!!

ETA: after reading all the responses I see why so many think I can be superficial, I get my hair, nails, brows done on a routine basis -wear make up daily, style my hair in fun and different ways constantly and dress nicely. I only like to present on the outside what I feel on the inside - polished, beautiful and happy! I find it sad that many people see me and think superficial when I am just putting my best foot forward.

Oh gosh, I was just wondering this myself...I mean wondering when it was exactly that I got my hair cut...I have no idea!!! It's been months, probably 6?? My hair is a mess. I kinda wanted to grow it out, but really, I think I'm ready to chop it off again. I just never find the time to do it. I can't take my kids with me and I don't like going on the weekends b/c then I actually get to see my husband, so it falls by the wayside, along with my appearance and weight apparently!

I need to get on it though...no more of this frumpy stuff! :)

If you mean when was it last cut - 2 weeks ago - I trim it myself.
If you mean the last time anyone else cut it (a salon) - it's been about 10 years.
Mine is bra strap length - about the middle of my back.
Just trim it shoulder length.
I have some clippers and my husband and son get buzz cuts - that's easy enough for me to handle.
We haven't spent money on hair cuts in a long time (except for buying the clipper) and we don't plan to start any time soon.

After years of hair neglect, I've gotten into the routine of getting my hair cut every 6 weeks so I can maintain the pixie cut I got earlier this year. Loving my short hair!! What a time saver, and SO nice not to do a ponytail every day.

I have had a pedicure once in my life, the day before my sister's wedding, and only at her insistence. I would LOVE to have one though--my heels are so cracked and I feel self-conscious during sandal season.

About 4 months ago. I do need one. My hair is fine and straight unless I add some curl for body. And when it gets too long and it is humid (hello summer in Chicago) it just sits there and I cannot stand it. My problem is I have no time to get it cut. It takes about 40 minutes and with working full time and a family to deal with..ahem, care for :)..no time for little things. I don;t buy fancy things for my hair. And the idea of someone touching my feet....ugh. Not for me. My husband gets his hair cut every 6 weeks or so and around week 4 I hear complaints of how he needs a cut. Want to tell him to just shut up.

I just got my hair cut and colored last week, and I go every 6 weeks. It costs me $60 - but my Aunt is my stylist so she gives me a discount.

I've had pedicures before but prefer to do my own - I think I do a better job :) It is nice to be pampered. I like manicures, but they don't last long so I don't get them often.

If you don't want to spend the money yourself, you should ask for a gift card to a local spa or nail salon to get a mani and pedi. I think you will enjoy spoiling yourself.

I cut my bangs last weekend for a wedding. It sounds like the same length as yours. the last time I cut my hair was when my husband did about two months ago. I really thought about it and between even a cheap hair cut (which wasn't very good) and pedicure that could definitely be over fifty dollars with tips. I'd rather have that to do some day activity, put away for my vacation or new couch fund or sit on a boat somewhere. I do my own nails or my husband helps me.He also helps me color my hair (really cheap stuff and I don't do it a lot) and I am really happy about this. I once decided that I'd get my hair trimmed every time my husband went. He has very thick hair and it is difficult to cut. I really don't want to spend the money. I also buy very cheap lipsticks (am I allowed to say what brand?) but they are a dollar and if I see my color I stock up. I do not want to be trying nine dollar lipsticks that don't work and can't be returned.

Got my hair cut last Monday for the first time like like 9 months or more. I don't recall ever having a pedicure in my life. And it's been years since I had a manicure. Probably since I got married and that was not even a good one it's one that my sister in law and myself did.

Hair cut... hmmm...just a trim about 9 months ago or so, by my Mom's cousin when I was visiting my folks (he has a salon in Manhattan so I was not too worried). I do color it myself which is really difficult since my hair is long (almost my waist) thick and a bit wavy. If I can find a hairsytle I like I plan on cutting it shorter for the summer. What makes me laugh is that even if I cut off 10 inches it will still be considered long.

LOL! End of February. My hair dresser went in the hospital two days after giving me a new style cut and he isn't back to work yet. I keep waiting (still getting color from his fellow stylist, of course) for him to get back.

I guess I need to bite the bullet and let the woman doing my color cut my hair because I sure do need it!

Love those toenail designs - I'm too boring to do that, I guess!

i got a "pedicure kit" from walmart for $12. it was on the bottom shelf of the fingernail polish aisle with a layer of dust on it lol. the darn thing works great! a 'real' pedicure is nice, but usually i'm not willing to spend that money.

as far as haircuts, i am a supercuts girl, and it's only about $20 (incl. tip) each time. and i usually go every 3-4 months. i consider a haircut (ok even if it's "cheap") a necessity. i work in an office so i don't want it to get too crazy. and no i don't do color or anything either.

I get mine cut every 2-3 months depending on my cut and what other things I had done.
It's really good to get your haircut every 2 months or so because it helps your hair grow longer and healthier.
I only use salon products in my hair and my hair is so silky. I get many compliments on my hair. Even considering I get my hair dyed and curled. I don't do my makeup daily. Or even go out all the time. I recently got my nails done for a wedding and for once I found a place I liked so I have been getting my mani and pedi every 3 weeks, along with my eyebrows threaded.
My husband gets his haircut from my hairstylist every 3 weeks. He has difficult hair and this weird cowlick in the back that when he goes to a barber they always mess up and make it look weird.
I have a 5 year old that is well dressed, well mannered, and has everything he needs, not everything he wants. My husband and I do family activities every weekend.
We are in our early 30's and have both our vehicles paid off and are in the process of buying our first home.
We are not superficial people by any means. We are just very fortunate right now.
I'm usually not that girl that gets her nails done. I usually only do them for special occasions. Up until the wedding last month, I was doing my own mani and pedis. I'm sure this is a phase for me and by next month I will have had them removed and be back to my old ways. Lol

I go every year and a half (or more) to get a good haircut, and cut it myself in between. The woman who cuts my hair, taught me the right way to do it myself. I have thick, naturally wavy hair, so it pretty much styles itself. I have been lucky to always have very healthy, pretty hair. I am blonde, so I don't feel the need to dye. I hate (HATE) getting nails done. I don't enjoy any part of it. I have healthy nails, I do them myself.

I just chopped at least 10 inches off last week! Very exciting to get such a drastic cut, haven't had hair this short since I was in 10th grade.
I'm really bad about getting my hair trimmed, 2-3 times a year is about all I can muster. Same with the professional Mani/pedi
Its been years. I'm just very thrifty... with my money and my time.

The drawback is she is very popular and I have to scheadule an appointment early to get one.

My hair is waist++ length. I have never gone anywhere professional to have it cut. My husband trims the back when it gets to a point where everyone is sitting on it when they sit next to me and when it flips back around the comb when I go to comb it. I trim my bangs myself. The one and only time I went somewhere professional was back in Jr high when I decided I wanted bangs. I hated the way they did them (too short, very thick amount parted very far back on my head!) I grew out the thickness I didn't want and grew them to the length I really wanted.
I maybe get a trim once or twice a year.

I get my hair cut once a year - mostly because I hate getting my hair cut. However, the one hair cut costs $200. My guy knows how to cut my hair perfectly without me giving any instructions and it's so good I don't have to go back very often. I think it's worth it to get a good hair cut that you love. I don't do manicures or pedicures or facials...or buy shoes and clothes all the time so this is my one indulgence.

Tuesday!!!

I go from super long to super short and back again (my hair grows super fast, I can go from chin to bum in just a couple years). I love both for different reason, and they both irritate me for different reasons (oh. wait. I'm a woman irritated by her hair. Then again, it might just be the 'same' reason ;)

I cut off about a foot and a half this past fall (was elbow length), and am now doing the pixie/surfershag/bobby thang. Which needs to be cut more often, but can also stand 6 months of growing out :)

A professional one? Let's see...year and a half ago.

I cut my hair a few months ago, this time I just used clippers and sheered the whole thing clean. It's grown out a tad, from 1/2in to 3/4in. No fuss no muss. I love it.

As a gift to myself I've been trying to take care of my feet. Poor, poor ugly creatures that they are, they deserve some love too. I swear, I'd have to go to a wood shop to get a pedi, my nails are THAT bad. ;-)

I do hope you'll treat yourself (Susan's husband, are YOU listening?), 'cause you really deserve it.

I go to my salon every 2 months for a one step color and trim. I spend about $150

I have straight as a board hair (Native American heritage), very dark, so I play with the color. It is all 1 length and hangs to bra strap in the back.

Occasionally I will spring for a spa mani/pedi but I wear my nails short and no polish so they just buff my nails and for the pedi, sometimes it hurts because I have sensitive feet issues (stress fractures, etc). I like the pretty polish so I usually get a cool color from Sephora and do it myself most of the time.

Just read your SWH, so I guess SuperCuts is out. And if that's the case, you probably won't like my other suggestion, which is find a local beauty school and let a student cut it. My kids and I did this several times which success.

You can go for a really long time if you have long hair and it's one length. That's the great thing about it. It's also pretty hard to screw up a single-length cut, so hit up one of the cheapest salons, if you can.

The last time I had a haircut was about 2 months ago, I guess. It's my one vanity; I don't do nails, pedis or anything else. I used to have my brows done, but I do them on my own now.

It has been about six months since my last haircut and it is definitely time for another! I have super thick, coarse, curly hair (loose curls), and I have been wearning it in a reverse bob for the last few years, after years of wearing it really long. No colour yet, but they greys are creeping in, so I might have to start. I bought a Groupon for a haircut, manicure and pedicure for $39, so I am going to use that. I have only had one mani in my life, and probably 5 pedi's. I usually take care of that myself.

I had one scheduled for today, but my hairstylist's little girl is sick. So, we need to reschedule. It's been about 6 weeks. I do not dye it or otherwise process my hair. I consider haircuts a necessity, especially since I have very thick hair. My employer expects me to maintain a professional appearance, and regular haircuts are part of that.

I also do pedicures and fills every 2 weeks; I do not add designs to mine (which would be an extra $5-10). I also get my eyebrows waxed every month.
