Hello Ladies!
I have been using the same shampoo and conditioner for a while now (fantastic sams brand) and it isn't doing the trick anymore. My hair is fairly long and colored. I have heard you can get away with using a cheap shampoo and a nice conditioner - anyone else heard that? I am looking for reccomendations on new shampoo and conditioners to try that aren't too expensive. Thanks for your help!
I love, love, LOVE Aveeno shampoo and the spray/leave in conditioner. Each is about $6.50. And Lynn M. is right! With a good shampoo, you might not even need the conditioner. My hair is highlighted and tends to be dry so I use a few sprays after each shampoo but the bottle lasts me forever...

suave and v05 are the cheapest i've found (under $1 at walmart) and work great. white rain is cheap but i don't feel it cleans my hair. my hair is long and thick (not colored so don't know about that) and it doesn't take much shampoo to get a good lather and clean feeling. don't use much conditioner but these 2 brands sell that for same price.

I was in cosmetology and it is best to use a quality shampoo and then you may not need conditioner at all. Better to not use a shampoo that damages your hair.
I suggest Melaleuca's Herbal Shampoo. Another quality option is their Envia line...salon quality but better. Shampoo, Conditioner, and other products.
Let me know if you want more info.

I love to try new ones...Dove~Herbal Essences Hello hydration or the one for color treasted hair~Garnier Fructis (still unsure) buy small bottles to see if they work if not use as body wash or foaming hand soap with the conditioner use as shaving cream it hydrates way better than the actual shaving cream plus the cost is sooo cheaper lastes longer and the legs feel smoother...As for salon products I was a huge user on Biolage..

I have long thin hair. I don't color it, but I really like Herbal Essences Hello Hydration.
It makes my hair so soft and really easy to comb out.
I often have White Rain products as a back up. They are very inexpensive and my hair does fine with it. I'm really loving the Herbal Essences conditioner right now though.
Best wishes.

I have very long hair too. I use Suave or White Rain or whatever is cheapest. If you look at the ingredient list, most shampoos and conditioners are pretty much the same.
I get a ton of compliments on my hair. My secret? I wash it only every few days, never blow dry it, or curl it. That does a lot to make your hair look healthy. Also, I try to eat right. What you put into your body will affect how your hair, skin, and nails look. Make sure you're eating enoguh good fat (nuts, olive oil, fish, and other sources of Omega-3's)

I've been using the Nature's Gate line of shampoo and conditioner for a few months now and really like it. I found it in the natural foods section of my grocery store and I think it was less than $8 per bottle.

I believe in using a quality shampoo. In the long run you are not spending that much more money.
We use Sebastian products. Daughter and I both use this shampoo. I go through conditioner faster than shampoo.
With the higher end products, you don't use as much, therefore you are not buying as often.
I buy the large bottles, $50 for both shampoo and conditioner, and we refill our smaller bottles as needed. I truly do not buy it more than once every 6 months or so for the 2 of us....me and a 16 yr old.
Good luck

I have been using a shampoo and conditioner from Sally's Beauty Supply. I don't remember the name of it, but it is the knock off version of Biolage. It is for color treated hair and smells great. I really like it! I paid about $14 total for both bottles. I am going on 6 weeks and I think I have used maybe half of it. I usually wash my hair daily or every other day. Hope this helps!

I would ask your hair stylist to recommend a product that would be best for your hair type. They are trained and will give you some good options. I also believe that you get what you pay for.
I also recommend looking up any products for their safety at www.ewg.org. They have a great data base of cosmetics, food, cell phones, etc if chemical additives and potential toxins are a concern for you. Good luck, be well. D.

I highly recommend the relatively new line by Loreal specifically for color treated hair. It does not contain sulfates, which is what is hard on color-treated hair. It is also inexpensive and available at Target. It comes in several varieties for different types of hair. I use Volumizing, which you might not need, but I'm sure there must be a variety for you.

I have used Pantene for probably more than 20 years now. I have long think hair and this seems to really keep my hair healthy. They make different types for different types of hair. Pick the one best for your hair. I am pretty sure they have one for colored hair.
