Hypersensitive Laptop Mouse

My laptop mouse is driving me crazy! Lately when just my wrists are over it, it picks up the slight touch and moves the cursor all over and moves where I'm typing or makes me delete things - aahh! It's like it's possesed! Any ideas how or why or what I can do? Thanks (and that's all my questions for today).

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

You guys are the best. It isn't perfect, but it's much better. I adjusted the sensitivity settings of the touchpad, and it helped a lot.

I had this problem too! Since I use my laptop at my desk a lot, I bought a cordless mouse and it works great!! It has cool sides too like grippers. I bought it at Toys R Us for only $15 and it's by Microsoft. (Not that you need to know this part..... I'm just adding details.) What an easy fix and it stopped me from going crazy!!

Anyway... I only use my mouse on my laptop when it's actually on my lap which isn't often. (It seems to work now .... go figure.) But.... I still like my cordless mouse off to the side of my laptop.

my cordless mouse was making me nuts, incredibly over-sensitive. i summoned my drudges and commanded them to make it right. they adjusted some settings, booped and beeped and did their magical incantations, and now all is well.
i am going to be at a complete standstill when they move out (this summer) and abandon me to to my own resources.

I am in Desktop Support (IT). It could be 1 of 2 things. Either the touchpad on the laptop is oversensitive. You can change the touchpad settings to change the sensitiviity. Or if you have mouse buttons just below your spacebar, those are very sensitive too and can cause your mouse to jump. If you have an HP, make sure you have the Synaptics driver installed. Then disable the touchstyk buttons (below the spacebar). I hope this isn't confusing. Or just buy an external mouse and be done with it ;-)

there are settings in your computer. You can sett how fast you want things to blink, how long the screen saver comes up, the sensitivity of your mouse is one of them. I can't lead you there, as I dont know what you have, but you could type it in your help search bar.
