M.D.
Give it a little time. I hated it for about a week. I would have to ask google how to do certain things. But now I love it.
not a mama emergency but a definite peeve--
i got a new lap top and hate everything about it. all i want it for is for facebook, mamapedia. pinterest, sending emails through my google account. and typing documents in word.
maybe its just me and i've got my wires crossed but i was able to use a computer before this, now everything takes me 3x as long.
I was trying to cut a part of an email attachment and paste it into word and then edit it. holy cow it was a nightmare, something that used to take me 2 minutes took an hour.
is it just a matter of getting used to it or do i need to sign up for a class or something?

Functions like cut and paste haven't changed. Where things are is a little different. Highlight, right click, select cut or copy....
I don't have any problems using WIndows 10 like any other Windows program.
I'm wondering if your word program changed with the upgrade? I often have a whole new word program when I'm done upgrading and they aren't the same but they are similar.
I would think copy/paste would work just fine between any programs that cooperate with each other.
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Does the company you bought your computer from have any new owner's programs? We bought our last laptops at Staples and we got to go in for a "Welcome to Windows 8" class that was free since we bought the computers from them.
I love Windows 10 when compared to Windows 8. I hated the things all up and down the right side, if they'd have put them on the left side of the screen I'd have had zero problems with them. But a person uses the right side of nearly every window to scroll up and down and make selections. Those charms on the right side were in my way.
My trick for learning new stuff is to do onto youtube and look for videos. I've learned more tricks on exel that way.
I didn't like it. My husband (IT wizard that he is) installed Never10 on my laptop. Windows 10 actually hijacked my laptop, installed itself. Dear guy un-installed it, I'm back to Windows 8.
It's okay, some of us don't always like change. ;)
It took me a few days to figure everything out just like it does with anything new. But now I've got the hang of it. It's not all that bad. It's a lot more stable then some previous versions I've used (Vista...I'm looking at you!). It's not too hard to figure out. I never took a class or anything, just poked around until I got it figured out.
I got used to it once I was able to find everything and change a gazillion settings back to how I like it. But I still don't like it. I can use it fine, but I don't like it. I dreaded my windows 7 laptop dying, and it did. My new one came with windows 8.1 but then got strong-armed by microsoft into installing 10. I got my son a college computer with windows 8 on it a few years back, and thank god he could navigate it because I thought it was the devil. I am still stuck on windows xp though and wish I could go back to that. Yea, I'm a dinosaur.
I really like my Mac book but I love my chrome book. The chrome book connects to the Internet so you can do FB, pinerest, write emails etc. but it doesn't have an operating system so it is super fast. The cheapest chrome books are only about $130. My daughter's each have one, I have mine and my husband has 2. (He's does tech stuff for a living)
FYI...my daughter's use google docs for writing papers etc. I don't think you can use Word on it.
I kept hitting "not now" when I kept getting the prompts that it was going to update me automatically. Then one day, I woke up and there it was!!!! I hated it.
Then *luckily* my laptop died and when I got a new one, I asked my computer guy to block it so it didn't upgrade it automatically. He did some kind of computer magic on it and it's been good since. Good luck...I know that sucks!!!!
My husband upgraded all our laptops a few weeks ago from Windows 8.
Sure there are some differences but for the most part it seems pretty much the same.
We haven't had any difficulties in adjusting to it.
What system did you replace? I was limping along a Windows 7 laptop and couldn't wait for Windows 10. I refused to buy 8. I actually love 10. I find it so much faster than 7.
NOTHING has changed. Your programs should all perform the same. Are you sure it isn't a processor problem? I am currently on my daughters' laptop that was an 8 and upgraded to 10. I know for a fact that their processor is lightyears crappier than mine. Every time it gets hung up I want to shake it like a an etch-a-sketch, and they keep telling me 'Mom, you can't do all that at the same time!' My computer will arrive home tomorrow. Not soon enough for any of us.
Yes, you will get used to it, maybe in 2 or 3 weeks... in any case, there aren't other options!
Windows 10 seems to me less messy and a little bit faster than the 8.
