My 3 year old son fell asleep with silly putty in his bed and now it is permanently smeared all over his blankets. Anyone have any ideas on how to remove it?
Rubbing Alcohol. My son fell asleep on it once and woke up screaming the next morning when his head (hair) was stuck to his bed! I tried about a million things and finally got the bright idea to call the company. They told me that alcohol disolves it. It worked!
Just a guess here but what comes to mind is the same method you would use to get gum out of something.
Put the blankets in the freezer until the putty is very hard. Then scrap it off.

This just happened to me too. It was just a small amount on his flannnel sheets and I was able to just scrape it off with my fingernail. It took me awhile, but it worked. I would second what the other mom said about freezing or using ice to make it hard and then scraping it with your fingernails or a butter knife. Good luck!
Take some plain white vinegar and microwave it so it is nearly boiling. Then dip a toothbrush in the vinegar and use it to scrape off the putty. You may have to re-heat the vinegar a few times as this works best when it is piping hot. Then launder as usual to get rid of the vinegar smell. This is how I got gum off of my daughter's clothes when she fell asleep in the car with gum in her mouth. Worked like a charm - good luck!
