This is just a thought cause I have boys and they think its cool to pee in a cup. But what if you let her potty in a potty chair to get it? Just a thought. Hope it helps Good luck!!
I have a 4 year old daughter that went today to get her physical before going to preschool and she would not give a specimen that is needed. She pitched the biggest fit with tears and all and really seemed upset, not just trying to give me a hard time. The nurse said we could do it at home and bring it in, so does anyone have any creative ideas on getting her to cooperate? We try positive approaches as much as possible. Any help would be appreciated!

That's asking a little too much from even a 4 yr. Old!!..it's probably embarrassing, not to say that it's totally intimitating, and being she is female, she totally can not understand something like that. There just 'h a s' to be a better way!!! K. m.
Maybe ask the doctor or nurse to see if they have a hat pee catcher that sits in the toilet underneath the seat.
My daughter was apprehensive about peeing in a cup too. I let her see me pee in the cup to show her it wasn't that big of a deal and just told her they wanted to check and see that everything was normal. This made her more willing to go in her cup.
Good luck,

Maybe you could get one of those urine catchers like they have you use at the hospital postpartum? I imagine they would have them at a med supply place or a really good pharmacy. Then you could just pour it from the sterile catcher to the sterile cup and she can pee pee on the potty just like normal.
do you have one of those training potty toilets that sits on the floor? Can you borrow one? See if she will do it on that. See if she can "teach" a younger child how to pee on that toilet....maybe a friend's child. See if you can bribe her...candy, chuck e cheese, small toy, etc Try doing it yourself first to show her it doesn't hurt....
try to play a game to see who can get the most in the cup!
How about one of those big catch all cups that sit on the toilet under the seat. They use them at hospitals. I remember having one on my toilet when I went in to have my son. they use them to monitor how much you pee. I bet you could find one at a medical store. Just let her pee in that then pour it in the cup for the doctors office. Good Luck.
Hi L.,
I really think the best way is to use her old potty you maybe used for potty training or to get one of those plastic containers that you put on the toilets. If you ask really nicely a hospital might give you one or you probably can get one at a drug store.
that is a tough one. They never used to require something like that and dont understand why now?? You hate to make it a game.. perhaps just really explain how important it is if she wants to go to school!?!? How crazy! Good luck and God bless!
Just put a big bowl under the toilet seat and collect it that way.
Sounds like she's very worried about it. I explained to my daughter (who is very inquisitive)that she had to peepee in the cup so that the doctor could test it and make sure it's "healthy". I told her it was the same thing the doctor does with our blood when we get our finger pricked. That they have to check and make sure we're healthy. Maybe once she understands why she has to put her peepee in the cup, she'll feel a little more comfortable with it. ??? That the doctor can't put the special little test strip in the potty. LOL Then, try to giggle a little with her and tell her that you know it's very silly to peepee in a cup, but that it's very important in order to make sure we stay good and healthy. Then maybe promise a yummy ice cream outing or something for being brave. ;0) Good luck!
Try to get her to pee in a training toilet then dump the urine from the pot into a cup.
There is a plastic bowl that you can put in your toilet. It fits between the bowl part and the lid. That was she doesnt have to try to go in that little cup :) Hope you have some luck :)
L.,
Do you still by any chance have a potty seat? Or maybe just a large pyrex measuring cup would work....could be she is just afraid of missing the cup (letting you down b/c she doesn't get it right...) so giving her a larger target could help.

dont stress about it my daughter wouldnt go either the doc said it wasnt that big of a deal she gave it the next year with no problem. the only thing i could think of if they HAVE to have it would be get a potty hat. and have her go or even if you have a little potty from when she was potty training then our it in.
If you still have her potty chair, wash it thoroughly and have her urinate in it.
If not get a clean bowl that you can sit in the toilet before she goes. Or maybe your local store for convalescent needs would have a Speci-pan, specially made to catch samples on the toilet.

Hi, L. S!!! I love music & the Lord, too.. especially music in praise of our Lord!!! :)
Anyway.. I THINK MAYBE it MIGHT be easy .. if you cd purchase one o those hospital thingees LOL that is like a bucket w/ measurements on it.. n slips right onto the seat o the commode. Then she wd not be doing anything "different". ... If you think she wd still perceive that as diff.. you cd just put it there w/o discussing it, n maybe she wdn't notice.. or wd notice aft it was too late to stop. :0)
Godspeed!!
