We moved to Oviedo from Winter Park a few years ago and we LOVE it in Oviedo. The schools are great, the community is great, the parks & recreation that the city provide are amazing.
We'll be moving to Orlando this Summer and need to focus on a neighborhood that is good for families, you know, schools, parks, sports, lots of kids... all the good stuff.
The kids grandparents live in Longwood/Sweetwater so we're thinking about that area to be close to them. Any thoughts?
Thanks everyone for your friendly advice and suggestions! I made lots of notes in my file for the realtor so when he sends me new listings I can check out where they are in relation to what you all have said. Wish me luck on our search :)

hi
that area is nice also just about anything in seminole county because we have the best schools
i live in oviedo and it is very nice also winter springs, altamonte springs, lake mary hope this helps.
Lake Mary is wonderful. Very clean, fairly new area and everything and anything you need is close by. I-4 is right there and so is the Seminole Mall. Plus, it is very close to the Sweetwater area (which is nice also but much older than lake mary). Windermere & Dr. Phillips is very nice also, however is much further away from the grandparents.
East Orlando is good that is where we live. I have a chilcare business in my home also if you need childcare for your two year old. let me know if you nrrd any help.

I just moved to Oviedo 2 years ago and my husband and I LOVE it. There is an elementary school at the end of our subdivision so there are a ton of kids in the neighborhood. It was a great move. We need a little bit more space so we are selling in a couple months but we will be staying in Oviedo. It’s a great area. Good luck to you and please feel free to ask me any questions. I have lived in the Orlando area for over 22 years.
Right in the same area is the woodlands and windsor manor. Right now there are several houses in winsor manor for sale and rent. It has the best schools . In fact I had my son staying with my parents just for that reason. Alot of kids a big lake and close to the mall shopping and grocery stores just to name a few. The schools would be the woodlands for elementary and rock lake middle and lyman high school. It is not usual for houses to stay on the market in that neighborhood because of the schools and no crime.Good Luck
Winter Park or Windermere!
Winter Park does a lot with brain research. Windermere has alot of excellence.
Longwood/Sweetwater are good.
We just moved to the Orlando area in August. Just today, I went out with a highly recommended realtor who doesn't want to just sell us a house but have us as life long "friends" (i.e.customers -- referrals). Once you move here you will find everyone is a realtor. Also, there are so many (too many) houses on the market now -- but last year, from what I understand -- there were bidding wars. At least now, sellers are really willing to negotiate.
The Longwood/Sweetwater area is very nice from what I've heard (I met a mom who is actually getting her house ready to sell when school ends --she's moving for her husband's job.) But the nice areas are in the 500's and up. I know you can find some nice homes less than that, of course. My husband's job is in Winter Park -- so we are trying to buy as much house -- and as close as possible -- and newer. Nothing before 1990's. If you need a name (which everyone will ask you that), I have an awesome realtor. If not, good luck. I've lived in an apartment here for 6 months, and I still can't decide where to live because we don't know a soul (well, new mommy friends but that's it.)
If you stay-at-home, there is a Mom's CLub International group in your area. I'm in the one based in Orlando.
Good Luck. And don't be pressured. This is our 4th home purchase in six years -- (due to my husband's career) and the one great piece of advice we've followed -- choose a home that you could see yourself living in for the next 20 years -- because you just don't want to settle. And no one can foresee the future......
oh, and before signing on the dotted line -- check out the schools. From what I understand, they vary so greatly -- you have to make sure where you children will be going to school and check it out yourself. Don't just go by the grading system.
Not Deltona! I live in Deltona, and have for 20 years. I am looking to move soon. Yes, there are good streets(not areas), but there is a lot of crime, and bad kids at the schools. This city is going downhill quick, and the population keeps growing. A co-worker of mine lives in the Oveido area-I have not heard bad about that. Another thing you can check out is the national sex od\ffender website(i'm not sure what it is) and it will show you a dot for every sex offender in the area. Good luck!
We recently moved back to Central FL and live in Apopka right near Hunt Club and Wekiva Springs. We LOVE it!! There are very good schools, lots of kids, and plenty of parks and things to do close by. The 429 toll road is only about 10 minutes from us so we can make it cross town to Disney in about 30 minutes- without living near the tourist traffic. My husband works in Longwood and we are only about 6 miles from his job. Sweetwater and Sabal Pointe are also REALLY NICE areas with GREAT schools. A little pricey, but if you can afford it- SO worth it. Good luck!
Hi J.!
I moved last year from VA to Windermere -- and LOVE it. We almost moved to Lake Mary (which seemed okay) but after last minute choosing to look in Windermere, I'm so glad we made the decision. Dr Phillips is also good. There are 2 YMCA's (sports programs) nearby, not to mention Little Leagues, tons of schools (although for high schools I think there are none in Orange County that are that great). I can name about 12 parks off the top of my head and we're only 20 mins from Disney's parking lots.
And add in all the restaurants and touristy stuff that's closer and there's always stuff to do at your fingertips. It does seem to be pricier, but I personally think it's worth it.
Good luck!
