Help! Need a C-section! OB Who Is Great Surgeon???

My 11 mo old was born by emergency C-sec. after I went 2 weeks past due date and tried to deliver using a midwife. I wanted as little medical intervention (all natural) as possible b/c past experience with complications from medical procedures. Now I am faced with a major delima! Because of the way the surgery was done I will have to have all my children by c-section from here on out. (According to my midwife). I could use my midwife for all my prenatal care up to the c-section, but I would rather use the doctor I will have do the c-section for all my prenatal care. How do I find out if an OB is a particularly good surgeon? I had a long hard recovery from the first c-section and I really want to find the best surgeon possible. I am in Fort Worth and could go to any of the surrounding hospitals including Grapevine, Midcities, Down Town Fort Worth and North Hills. I am completely terrified by the idea of having major surgery, but I know I will have to do it I want the best surgeon money can buy! The surgeon who did the 1st is not an option. There were a lot of things that happened that should not have including having an intern do my stiches and staples (which got infected and is a whole nother story). I know really good doctors have long waiting lists for patients and I want to get on the list if need be.
***I decided to edit this to say if I had to narrow it down by hospital I really liked Harris Methodist Fort Worth and would like to deliver there again if I knew of a OB who is known to be a great surgeon.*** I have seen many posts of people reccomending OBGYNs but not many for Harris Methodist. Also please let me know if you or someone you know had a great c-section experience with a particular doctor. If you didn't have a c-sec let me know that too if you don't mind.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am seeing Doctor Robbins and I LOVE her so far. She is very open minded and up to date on medical information. She is supportive of breastfeeding during the pregnancy and is open to doing a VBAC if possible. The only complaint I have is that I was in the waiting room for 2.5 hours with my 1 year old and that was hard! My next appointment is Monday and we will see how it goes. If the wait is always so long it may become an issue. My son is just not that patient (and neither am I). Hopefully that was just a one time thing!

the 2 best OB-GYNS that are also great surgeons in the FW area are Bradford and Robbins. They are actually award winning Dr's having been chosen by their peers as the best in the field in FW. Either one will give you excellent care and they are both very gentle ladies. They deliver at either Harris downtown or Baylor All Saints (your choice). Dr Bradford is very gentle and laid back. Dr Robbins, who is also excellent is a little more direct. Call now because they can be hard to get into.

We love Dr James Petes at Medical Center at Riverside in Grand Prarie. ###-###-####. He is so gentle and caring for his patients. He preformed both of my surgies at Baylor Irving.

I was is serious shape with my first daughter, I had to have T surgery. Vertical cut on the exterior and a horizontal cut on the uterus. It gave the Drs more room to get the baby out, but also allowed me to have my choice of a VBAC, but I went back for the section no questions the second time around.

With my first Dr Peters asked if I wanted to use forceps to get the baby out if needed. I had already decided no, I would rather have a section. When I was exhausted and the baby was in distress, 21 hours into labor and 3 hours after pushing, I told him to use the forceps. He replied back, we talked about this, and you said you did not want forcepts, wanted surgery. He helped me and my husband to stick to my plan.

Saying that, I was also one of the wierd moms that wanted a scheduled section from the get go, but because she was my first, insurance made me labor all that time.

With my second, he asked me only once what I wanted. I said section and it was scheduled, end of discussion. After my first surgery, I was up and around about six hours later. It took a little longer with the second one, but I had my tubes tied also.

Best of luck and congrats!

I had a c-section and loved my Dr., Celeste Williams. She has two offices, one in Saginaw and one in Fort Worth, right by Harris Methodist. I prefer the Saginaw office, it is smaller and more personal. Everyone is great there. Everytime I went, I felt like their only patient. I've been to the Fort Worth office too, but they are more crowded. The Saginaw office only opened this past summer. Dr. Williams is an awesome awesome doctor. This was my second baby and was dissappointed she wasn't my doctor for my first.
With my first c-section I had an awful scar and they were able to fix that with the second. Dr. Williams didn't actually do my c-section though, her partner, Dr. Freeman did. She was out of town and I opted to have the surgery earlier so family could be here for the birth. That is another thing, they had no problem with working the delivery around family. That was very important to me.
All in all, I think Dr. Williams and Dr. Freeman were great. I highly recommend them. The number to the Fort Worth office is ###-###-####. Good luck with your Dr. search.

I used Dr. Cathrine Hees. She is amazing! I went from a midwife to her and I was very pleased. She is a very talented surgeon. She is also super brestfeeding friendly and answered all my questions. I had my c-sec at Harris downtown and loved it as well. She has offices off of Rufe Snow in NRH and downtown. Good luck!

Dr. Barbara Coulter-Smith in Grapevine @ Women's Integrated????? I can't recall the business name but it's across the street from Baylor Grapevine.

I had an emergency C section for my twins 3 years ago. She was great! We planned to go VB up until that day that it became an emergency.

This is an all woman practice (4 or 5). I did have a false alarm at one point and in the ER had to see one of her partners...Dr. Walters I believe. She was wonderful, too! I also saw one of the other partners Dr. Allen after the surgery, she was good, too but not as sociable but did see me before I checked out of the hospital.

Tip: Drink lots of water (duh!); after the C-section make sure you have a bm way before you leave; and don't forget to relax, it'll be fine.

I wish you well!

he delivers at Harris Southwest, not downtown, but he is fabulous. My recovery was quick. Since your next delivery will be a planned c section, I heard that your recovery will be better. Usually if you are in labor first, and then have a c section, the recovery is harder.

I delivered my twins via c-section about three years ago at Baylor Grapevine and it went very well and I have very minimal scaring. I love my OBGYN. His name is Dr. Micheal White. He has a nice office in Keller off of 1709 and also has an office in Baylor Grapevine hospital.

My former OBYGYN has an office in Fort Worth and is also very nice and he delivered my sister's baby via c-section at Harris Southwest.

I switched OBGYNs at the time I found out that I was having twins. I knew that with twins I could have complications and thought it would be safer to deliver at a hospital closer to my home. Dr. Suba actually recommended my current OBGYN, Dr. White, and it worked out fantastically.

Best wishes to you!

I have had two c-sections at Harris Methodist Downtown. My doctor is Dr. William Maxwell. He was my obgyn for both pregnancies and performed both of my c-sections. I like him very much. They did not use staples, just dissolving stitches, so I did not have to have anything removed after surgery (just the peristrip that goes over the stitches, but you pull that off a day or two after surgery). He is very easy going and gives you credit for knowing your own body, limitations, etc. Also, just because you have had one c-section does not mean that all of your other deliveries have to be via c-section. There are many women who have successful VBAC's (vaginal birth after caeserean). There are several factors to consider, such as whether your internal incision was made vertically or horizontally and the time between your deliveries.

Forgive me, but your 1st mistake was to use a midwife in the first place. Midwives are only good when there are no complications with a pregnancy and delivery and who can predict that?

To the more time sensitive question...you should consult with your primary care doctor. He/She should be able to recommend an excellent surgeon for you. Many ob/gyn docs are surgeons. I would find one that does both and go that route.

I know of many friends and acquaintances who found separate surgeons and were very unhappy with the whole experience.

Best of luck to you!
