My DH did our laundry and he washed a bright yellow new shirt of his in the whites load..... Now the entire load is a very aple shade of yellow. Does anyone one know of anything I can use to get it back to whites. Not everything in the load is all shite there are some t shirts with designs and graphics on them so using bleach I would think is out of the question...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for responding so quickly. Unfortunately I did not relize what he did until I was folding the load. I will give it a shot and see. There is really only one shirt I really want white and that is my daughters t-shirt for her performances she has tomorrow night and Thursday. Thanks again. Great suggesions! I will let you know what the results are.

There used to be a product called Chloraleen from Mexico that worked wonders. Haven't needed it in a while but used to buy it at the Grocery store. It's not bleach but is great for colors and removing stains. Might work on pale yellow!
Good Luck. Char

I use Carbona Color Run Remover for those situations. I've only ever had to use it when red fabric dyed the load a pinkish-red, but I would think if it can get that out, it will surely take the yellow out too. It comes in a small red and blue box (with a white shirt & red socks on the front), and can be purchased at fabric stores- I got mine at Hancock Fabrics. Good luck!

Oxyclean or colorsafe bleach. Oxyclean I use and soak the clothes in first, then launder- I have gotten ink and ragu out of clothes with this!

I seem to remember something similar happening with some clothes when my oldest was a baby. I used BIZ which is sold at wal-mart. Sometimes the other types of cleaners which work great for smaller staining don't seem to work as well for overall problems like you have. Of course, check your labels first and if everything has been dried, this may not work as well if at all. Hope everything works out...

Hi J.. First off, anything that is cotton, with a screenprint only IS SAFE if you use bleach. Bleach does not affect anything that is screenprinted onto the t-shirt. The only thing bleach will take the color out of is fabric that is already that color. Like: colored embroidery, colored fabric trims, etc. Secondly, sadly, I have done the same with a yellow rag and a load of whites. I tried bleach, oxyclean, and even Shout color-catching sheets. Nothing worked. But hey give it a shot because even if it doesn't work, what have you lost? The damage is done now... it can't get worse, only better possibly. Good Luck!

Oxyclean might help, do an extra rinse. Otherwise wash them in vinegar and dry them in the sun.

Try some Melapower, two caps of Sol-U-Mel and Melabrite add some PreSpot as well.
Good luck. If you don't use Melaleuca and would like to learn how to use safe affordable products that really work then respond to this. I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear J.:

If the stains don't come out with treatment, try a bit of bluing (just a drop or two). It is designed for white clothing (or white hair) that has become yellowed from bleach, etc.

Just remember that bluing is a dye and more than a few drops may turn the laundry blue (like some old ladies hair when they use too much).

Good LUck

I have had some success with 20 Mule Team Borax. I just fill the washer with cold water, detergent, and the Borax. Once it stops filing and the detergent and Borax have dissolved, turn off the machine and let it sit overnight, then continue the cycle. This usally works unless the clothes have gone through the dryer. Then it is only about a 50/50 chance.

I hope he did not dry them...drying will set the color in to my understanding. Have you slapped him yet?

J.-
You might try using perxiod...It does wonders for making whites brighter and will not ruin clothes like bleach!! Hope this works for you.

If you turn the t-shirts with designs inside out you can wash them with bleach. just check the tags to see if they say no bleach.

I think there is some stuff where you by dyes for clothes that gets whites white a gain. I haven't had to dye any thing in a long time so I'm not sure if they still have it.
