google images "cool playrooms" I saw some coooool designs. Maybe you'll find something you like. pbteen.com has cool ideas to that you could incorporate into a playroom.
We just converted our garage into a room which I will be using for a pre-k program. We did a tan epoxy and plan to lay down several large rugs. The perimeter of the room has a thick black base. Going with a sort of toned down pink and brown scheme I had planned to paint the walls a light rose color. Started painting this morning and I hate it!! Even though the floor is clearly tan and paint is clearly pink on their own, when they are next to each other they almost look like they are the same color and the whole room is blah to me and reminding me of puke lol. So now I am looking for another color but I don't know what will look good with the tan floor with black base.... haven't gotten any rugs yet so that is not a matching issue. I was thinking of going with a bold bright color but I don't want the room to look small. Any thoughts? :)

I would go with blue or green - both clean and relaxing and can brighten the room, but not too much so.
Sky blue!
Keep the wall color "quiet" and let their artwork shine when you hang it!
How about a robin egg blue.. Benjamin morre paints are so pretty.. Pottery barn uses this brand of paint.. if u look in a pottery barn kids catalog or online they have a section that shows what paint goes good with each other.. great ideas
a bright coral. lowes has one called strawberry patch that looks good with tan.

i also like the idea of putting putting white board paint on the lower part of the walls.

Take a picture of the room and upload it to valspar.com and you can "paint" the room. When we painted last year I found the colors online more accurate then the swatches.
How about a nice faded turquoise color? Looks great with tan and black.
How about a sagey-green color? Or maybe a sky blue.
I'd go with a sage-green, gold (warm natural yellowish color), a warm light reddish-brown (light terra cotta), or a bright blue. I'd definitely go get color swatches to place up on the walls and try to envision what would look good. Painting rooms is hard! It's difficult to know exactly how it will look until you put the paint up. Good luck!
Wait until you start that class up! Cover the walls in bulletin boards and creations the children have made. No one will notice the color ;) Put up class rules, song sheets, anything to make it fun, bright, and playful!
Personally, I like the idea of a buttery yellow, a nice teal, or a cadet blue. I think all those work well with tan!
I think I prefer the buttery yellow most, since it's sunny and cheerful. Would be a good, cheerful backdrop for their artwork and projects!
a bright blue definitely, and maybe even a sort of foresty-green? go to the hardware/paint store and just grab some swatches. a plum could work too. I love color!
Pale/creamy yellow on three walls and a deep blue or green on an accent wall. Tan, yellow and blue or green go well together in nature - the yellow will make it bright - but the blue or green will give it a rich look and will be calming. Good luck!
Use a bright color not a pastel. Terra cotta might work well and it is cheerful.
I think bright greens and pinks would be super cute and fun for the kids! I agree with the rose and tan looking a lot alike. Tans vary so much and it could have already had a pink hue in it. Go BOLD!! You could get some big stencils or just do art on the walls. It won't make it look small. A garage probably has at least 9-10 foot ceilings I would think! Good luck! Hope your program is successful!
Pre-k room should be a fun place, so pick a happy color. Doesn't necessarily need to be a primary color. A light sage green or blue would work well with tan. I would guess you'll be covering the walls with pictures anyway, so I wouldn't stress too much about the color.
Don't worry about making the room small. A room is what it is and unless you go extremely dark, the color won't change that. It can, however, make it have a happier, welcoming feel.
Have fun getting it all set up!
Choose another pink tone.
Pink is supposed to be 'relaxing.'
My friend who is a Teacher, her classroom is painted pink.
Certain colors, will affect moods etc. Or increase activity.
So with kids, keep that in mind.
