Hey Mamma's,

Our hall bathroom has been dedicated as the kids/guest bathroom (we have 1.5 yo daughter) and i want to make it over and i don't want all pink! I want something nice and vibrant, right now it is that eggshell builders paint! The counter and cabinets are white with brushed nickel hardware. I want to stay away from themes, even though i like Tinkerbell! And want it nice and pretty for her but not toooo girly in case we have another baby and it is a boy before we decide to repaint! Any suggestions would be great!

What can I do next?

I'm a fan of green - sage with chocolate brown and white accents. Can be made more kid friendly with flower accents (that can easily be removed) or with more grown up towels etc for a more sophisticated look. And green works well for boys and girls!

We have a boy and girl...and we have a fish or sea type theme going on...it seems to be rather neutral.

I'd suggest you search for a shower curtain you like (or if you don't have a shower, go to a home decor store and look for wall hangings) and pick a color based on that. Some of the best kids baths I have seen are those that don't revolve around 2 colors, but have multicolors in the curtain and then you can pick a favorite for the wall and coordinate with bright towels in the other colors. I personally like something that is child-like without being childish. (read: no commercial cartoon characters!) Good luck!!

My daughter's bathroom is done in all bright colors. Alot of bright orange, blue, pink, yellow, etc. The shower curtain is big daisy like flowers in all colors
and I have orange rugs and towels. We call it the "happy room" because it's so bright and cheerful... and believe me... with a bathroom that has no window that's tough to achieve.

You could go with a nice green as your base on your walls - that could lend itself to flowers, butterflies, TinkerBell, sea shells or any number of accent decorations for a girl. It can also transition nicely to frogs, jungles, etc if a boy comes along in the future.

Have fun!

We painted our "kid" bathroom room with a fish/duck theme. I had their towels monogramed with their names on the towel rod behind the toilet. I bought removable bathroom friendly stickers that are made for bathrooms (in my local craft store), they are ducks and stuck them to the tub, glass mirror, handle to the toilet, and even the light switches. Target had a neat bathroom set of duck towels that I complimented their other towels with. So the color accents were a darker blue (for our boy) and yellow (for our girl). We also have a fish shower curtain. Hope that helps. Good luck decorating. Another thing is after your kid(s) get older you can remove the stickers, the ducky theme feel and still keep the blue and doll it'll up more adult like.

Ours is a rich yellow. We have the pottery barn kids aquarium type theme. Not sure exactly what it's called..but an octopus and a few fish. Colors are yellow, green, white and blue- very neutral.

We painted ours in a lavender shade that has a tinge of blue (almost masculine tone). We have both a boy and girl and it works well for both.

We just re-did our hall bath, which also doubles as the kids/guest bath. We went with a beach theme (I think we got all of the accessories at Target). We painted the walls orange (yes! orange...it's bright, but so fun!!!), and it so easy to accessorize, even if you don't want to buy the pattern. Anything pool/beach/summer fun related goes. It's also a great gender-neutral theme.

Bed Bath and Beyond has a really cute set with monkeys. We did that for our kids bathroom. (they are in college now lol but we just did it about a year ago) shower curtain is a creamy yellow collor and has palm trees etc. there are monkeys swinging from branches. the monkeys have the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil thing" covering ears, mouth and eyes. very cute. I got the toothbrush holder, the kleenex cover and the wastebasket and the showercurtain and hooks all for about $125. its really cute. if you want I can snap a photo and send it to you.

A pretty blue color would work for boy or girl. Even a lime-grass green color would be pretty for both. Our bathroom is a tan color but is decorated with whimsical zoo animals....zebra, giraffe, elephant. They are nice for adults but yet whimsical for the kids, a boy and a girl. I got the pics at Kirklands. Even yellows are pretty if you use the right color, not too bright. I think the grass green would be your best bet with the white on white and brushed nickel.

Ghobi Desert at Home Depot is an awesome color. Neutral but seems to pick up on what ever colors are around it. It picks up greens well and browns also. It's a beautiful color.
