Recently my family and I moved in with my mom to save money to buy a house. I have 2 cats a male and female. My mom has a female cat. My problem is one of the cats is peeing on the couch. I have tried Natures Miracle and it does not work. It still smells and the cat still pees on the couch. I am not sure which cat it is and it does not happen all the time. Please help!!!!

What can I do next?

I have cats who used to have problems with going in the litter box. Upholstery cleaners and carpet sprays with the oxy clean stuff in them really help. I like the advice you got about separate litter boxes. If you could do that, it would be great. Something that also definitely works excellently is a cat litter called Cat Attract. It has things in it that smell nice for the cat and since I started using that about one year ago, my cats always go in the litter box. Cat Attract can be found at Ralph's supermarket or some pet stores. Best of luck.

I don't have cats, but I have a dog and when he'd have an accident in the house we'd put some baking soda on it and let it sit and then vacuum it up. I've done this for many horrible smells and it may take a few times, but it works good.

Get a 2 litre bottle of club soda water. Club soda neutralizes pet urine acid and odor. Just drench it and absorb it w/ clean clothes. It has always worked for us. You can even mix up a solution of baking soda and water. It also work with kid urine.!!! Hop it helps!

Hi T.,
I can totally sympathize with your pee issue. I have a dog you has peeing problems. I know you said you tried Natures Miracle but did you completely drench it? It needs to thoroughly soak the area and then let it air dry. If that doesn't work, go to planeturine.com and they have the serious stuff. I don't think using vinegar will help because its smelly to begin with and I think your cat will sniff that and want to pee on it again. I use vinegar and water on lots of things but I don't think I would recommend it for animal pee. Hope that helps and good luck.

I have used a product called Out which you can get in the pet section of Walmart. It takes a lot of soaking, but it does neutralize the smell. I look forward to hearing other suggestions on how to stop the peeing in the first place. I have heard one way to keep cats off of furniture is to cover it with something sticky, like contact paper or double-stick tape. If they jumped on that a few times, then they might learn not to. But, of course, that means you can't sit on your couch for a few days either. Good luck!

The same exact thing happened to me!! My Mom's cat completley covered my furniture in urine, not to mention my children's bat bag, backpacks, sweatshirts, my purse, my sweaters and finally my BED!!! So I tried several products and I couldnt get the smell out of my mattress...I finally tried a product call Otoban...Im not sure if that is the correct spelling but you can find it at Home Depot. That is the only thing that finally got rid of the smell. Thankfully I am moving next month so I dont have to worry about this anymore...what a nightmare :(

Contact your vet, they have many awesome products that will totally take the smell out. I tried many different things before getting something from my vet. I paid a lot for it, but it was so worth it!!

We used a product called Urine gone. It is nice because it comes with a little black light and you can see where the cat urine is. It worked great. Supposedly, female cats are more likely to be the culprits in peeing on furniture. It usually has to do with the location of the litter box. In your case, I would say that it is either the location or the fact that they are having to share with your mom's cat. I would try switching that up.

Try vinegar, either straight or diluted a little bit. It will smell strong at first, but dissipate in time.
I did this when my son peed on our carpet... it helped.

the cats are probably having territory issues... thus peeing/spraying on things. Are they going in their litter box? I would have separate litter boxes for each one, or several around the house.

Or, you just keep the cat in one room for a time, and with the litter box. So he/she acclimates to her new surroundings or the change in habits and transition issues and the fact that they have to get used to each other, hopefully. As far as the cats are concerned, they have been uprooted and things aren't the same now.

All the best,
Susan

You could try www.planeturine.com they have a pet stain and odor removal system and it's not expensive. I haven't used it on pet urine, but I did use it on a child's urine on the couch.
