Please help!!! My cat went into heat & has started to pee on things. Gross! I have now locked her up in a kennel but not before I found out she had peed on my baby's pack & play play pen! I have no clue how to get it out. I am soooo frustrated I could just scream. Do I have to throw it away now or is there some remedy for nasty smelling urine? Any suggestions on what I can do would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who responded with great advice. We are in the works to get our little kitty shots & fixed. She is indoors only so we haven't been too worried. Ended up going to Wal-Mart & found Kids-n-Pets, about $5 for 32oz bottle. Cheaper than the Nature's Miracle & claims to do the job just as well. I am now bumbed I didn't listen to the majority of you & just get the Natures Miracle. Kids n Pets didn't work. What I ended up doing, since we live a long way from the city & big stores, I used diluted bleach. I sprayed the entire thing with a spray bottle(mixed 3 - 1) then hosed it down & whala the smell is gone. Since she also peed on the pad part I took a seem reaper & tore out the seem, took out the foam pad & washed it on gentle cycle with bleach & detergent. Stuffed it back in & sewed it back up. I looks like new! I can't believe it! I was scared it would fade the color but it looks & smells great! Now, hopefully my cat won't smell it either. Here's to hopin'

Toss it.

My cat peed in my luggage and after...seriously...years of trying different things...the smell was still there. It's just stuff so toss it and find a new one. Toss the cat too.

We had two cats...that multiplied before getting them fixed. We had 6 cats in a 1 bed apartment and 10 different ones over the period of a year. The first cat peed and they all followed suit. It was hard but now that I don't have them, I am so grateful never to smell cat pee again or the cat box again.

Trust me...you'll love it. Oh, I have an Aunt in Coarsegold. Small world.

try to use some vinegar diluted with water, it works great on almost all smells and i used it when housebreaking my puppy, after treating the spots you couldn't smell anything. just spray it on and blot dry. sometimes it would take 2 or 3 times but it always worked for me...good luck

Spray it down with a 3:1 mix of white vinegar and water. Let it sit for a bit and rinse well. Douse with Febreeze. There are also some great products at your pet store, but vinegar is definately baby safe.

To L.,
I know what you mean - cat pee is the worst! Buy a product called "SIMPLE SOLUTION". I got it at Petco. It is safe to use around children and pets. If the item can be washed, then pre-treat it with simple solution by letting it penetrate the entire area for ten minutes then wash it. If it isent something you can wash in the machine then totally penetrate the area and let dry for a day or so. The urine smell will be gone.
Its good for carpet stains too it permanently removes stain & odors from Urine, vomit, blood, dirt, red wine, etc.
Hope this helps,
D.

Since my daughter was born a year ago, the oldest and most aggresive of our two cats has taken to peeing not only around the house (on the carpet, the wall, etc) but on my child's laundry basket, bookshelf, changing table, etc. Its, of course, the ickyest thing ever. We have tried cat repellent in those spots she likes, we've tried putting pepper or chili powder on those spots as a homeopathic rememdy, and have used bottles of Natures Miracle and NoMoreIckyPooh. Both of these sprays have worked to get most of the urine smell out, but after having spoken with several vets and even a feline behaviorist, the only way to get the cat to stop peeing on spots which they have already uninated on is to get rid of the cat.

When my husband and I heard this news we were quite upset. We love our cats, but having a house and carpet that smells like urine is unacceptable, especially with toddlers and crawlers around. The feline behaviorist told us that this urinating is a behavioural issue directly caused by the cat's jealousy of a new child and/or not receving the attention it needs. The behavior can ONLY be extinguished one the child is no longer in the picture: of COURSE you will not get rid of your child, but a cat that has behavioral, jealousy seated spraying can be easily placed in another adoptive home without a baby, and the urinating will extinguish itself.

Let me tell you, I agonized over my decision. I have singlehandedly kept the Natures Miracle and NoMoreIckyPoo (availible in most pet stores) in business for months and months, and we finally had to make the decision to adopt the cat out to another family. She is now VERY happy in a child free household, is thriving, and is not spraying anymore. It was the best thing for all of us in the end: I am in no way suggesting you get rid of your cat, but know that if you cannot do the pee-cleaning thing anymore, you arent alone, and you arent a bad kitty parent by placing the kitty in another home.

Spray white vinegar on the area. Soak it up with a dry towel & then do it again with a 1/2 water 1/2 vinegar mixture. Keep doing that till the scent is gone. Always use a dry towel to soak it up. Good luck Momma! That's some nasty stuff!

Well, having two competing males in my home, I feel your pain! I have tried everything on the market and the only thing that's EVER worked for me is Urine Gone. I've gotten it at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and I think Walmart carries it, too. It's been a lifesaver!

Follow the directions precisely - it really works!

im not sure how to clean cat urine... i have a male cat and he is fixed...this is my only advice....if you not going to be breeding your cat... please have her fixed.... you don't want her to get out some how... and then come home and have babys... i had that happen to me years ago..once you have her fixed then the peeing will stop... i have worked for a vet for a few years... the procedure is not that that expensive... i do advise that you make sure that the vet gives her some pain meds... and you will have to leave her overnight... it is a little bit more painful than a nuder..i hope the other moms have given some good advice about getting the urine out of the pack and play...good luck.

I use a product called Nature's Miracle. It is safe to use around children and pets, and is designed to work on organic stains and odors, such as urine. My cat did the same thing to our guest bed and this was the only product that worked to get out the stain and COMPLETELY remove odor. You can find it at any pet store. Good luck.

L., I used to work with an animal behaviorist, and the best product in the world, that I can never live without is Anti-Icky Poo. Very weird name, but works wonders. It is the only thing on the market that has a live bacteria that eats all components of the urine and any other natural matter. It also works great on baby spit up spots or baby urine on sheets. It is completely safe to use around babies, will not get them sick. When my daughter was 8 months old, she stuck her had on the couch where I treated a cat urine spot, and then stuck her hand in her mouth, and she never got sick or anything. Just do a search for Anti-Icky Poo and you can read all about it! Don't worry, you'll never have to throw anything away again!! Good Luck!!

If you go to your local pet store or vet clinic they should have a product that can help. I think you might be able to try the new clorox clean up spray that is safe for kids and pets. It is in a light blue bottle. I hope this helps.

Hi L.,
I can really relate!!!
Try using vinigar... I have used it and it really works. I had to take my cat to the vet, he had been hit by a car... I was in such a hurry that I just sat him in the front seat beside me. He was in so much pain that he ended up peeing on the seat. The vets ended up putting him to sleep, and after crying my eyes out I went out and washed my car seat. I couldn't get the smell out until I used vinigar.

Good luck,
T. C.

I haven't read the responces you got, but you might try vinegar. I know it stinks, but if you can live with the smell of vinegar for a few days, it will almost always get any smell out for good. My mother used to clean things with it when us kids threw up on them...like the car...smelled like vinegar for a bit, but after that it was like nothing ever happened. Good luck. You might also check into getting you cat fixed so that doesn't happen again. Good luck!

Nature's miracle works but it's a little pricey. Or you could try a home remedy that a friend of mine told me about and it works great and is reeeeally cheap. 1part water 1part vinegar. Pour the solution on (soak it if you can) and let it dry. When it is dry the smell should be gone and you can just wash it with normal soap and water like regular. NEVER use amonia because cat pee has amonia in it and it acts as a magnet. Good luck!!!!

My cat suffers from chronic UTIs and pees on the carpet when he gets them.. We buy this stuff from the vet called Natures Miracle. It is less expensive than having things professionaly cleaned (about 16$ for a 20oz bottle) and doesnt smell strongly like vinegar does. Soak the soiled spots with natures miracle and leave for an hour or so - if you have a carpet steam cleaner, run it over the site - if not, blot up the natures miracle with paper towels. There will be no lasting odor of cat urine and the product doesnt leave behind a smell either. It is truly great stuff! Hope this helps! .. Oh, and also - your cat will continue to go into heat on a regular basis if it's not fixed and they love to spray at this time!

Spay your cat so you don't have to deal with this again! There are lots of health benefits not to mention she be a better pet after the hormones are gone. If money is an issue, check w/ your local spca- they'll know how u can get vouchers or other assistance.
Go to a pet store and buy Simple Solutiob. It may take a couple cleamings but the SS will get it out.
Make sure you don't use anything with ammonia.

Welcome to my world! Both of my cats got urinary tract infections awhile ago and peed everywhere. Yuck.

Go to PetSmart or Petco and get some Nature's miracle-like a gallon of it as well as the Nature's Miracle laundry detergent. Completely drench the playpen in it, let it sit, then hose it down. You may need to do this several times. Cats can still smell the pee even if we can't and will go back if they can still smell it. Also wash any bedding that may have gotten it in the detergent several times and put it through a few rinse cycles. You can also get a black light and shine it on the pack and play and any urine that is left on the surface will glow bright yellow. I have used a black light on blankets-just spread them on the floor and used the black light and sprayed the yellow spots until they didn't look yellow anymore.

And...get the cat spayed ASAP. I waited to get my female spayed because I was broke at the time. That was almost 10 years ago and she will still "mark" me as her own (thus the mattress peeing).

Good luck!!!

You can try Unrine Off. I have a cat that doesn't like going in his litter box when it is 'too messy for him.' It helps with the smell some. I looked online, and it seemed to be the concensus that Unrine Off works the best. It comes in wipes & a spray for more deep cleaning. The only problem I have had with it is that I keep forgetting to go back and wipe it up after the time you are supposed to. It has helped with the smell fairly well, but it is kind of expensive. We just got the urine gone stuff at walmart. That stuff you see on tv infomercials. It was like 20 dollars for a bottle but it really worked. An old tenant in my attached apartment had 2 dogs and 6 cats and let them go anywhere. We had the carpets done professionally and it didnt work. But this stuff has enzymes in it and it really worked. The house doesnt smell at all.

Hi L.! Kitty urine is sooooo awful, isnt it? I had a cat who had a UTI and was peeing everywhere and I didn't realize it until it was a total mess! The only thing I found that worked was stuff called "Nature's Miracle"...you can get it at places like Petco, Petsmart, etc. It's spendy, but it works! For carpet or even your pack n play...you have to totally SATURATE it with this product and let it dry...the enzymes or something in it takes the smell away. Is it in your carpet too? Once again, if it is, you have to totally soak it with this stuff so it can reach the padding underneath. If you don't get rid of the smell completely, she may continue to pee on things even after she's out of heat...Good luck to you :) Jackie
