My 15 month old was just diagnosed with this. It looks horrible and seems sensitive. The pediatrician spoke to the pediatric dentist who said they don't treat it, but I'm wondering if I should take her to see the dentist anyway...

What can I do next?

This pediatric dental website suggests you have it looked at by a dentist. But rest assured it is not serious. And if needed, it can be repaired easily. So I would say make an appointment. =)

My son had one with his molars. I took him to a pediadontist who said it was normal. I would just watch it and make sure t seems to be healing and that the tooth seems to be cutting through. If it looks bad for more than a few days, or you don't see any signs of a tooth, or your instinct just tells you it is wrong - go see a dentist!! My sons bled one day and looked fine by days later. Dentist said rarely they can cause issues and make it hard for the tooth to come in - but typically they are just fine. Good luck!!

My cousin's son had this too. It looked horrible and painful but they did nothing for it. They told her that she could gently massage it with a wet washcloth to help with discomfort and to help the tooth come through. It eventually did and everything was fine.

I would take her to a dentist anyway, becuase when my son was 3 I thought he needed to see the dentist just for cavity's I could see but everyone I called in the phone book said they wouldn't see him because he was to young. I waited another year and by than he needed crowns and root canals. Than they yelled at me for waiting, I was like hey I called every dentist in this area and you all said he was to young to be seen and I made it very clear than I thought there was a problem. Moral being just because they say they won't treat doesn't mean they know that until they actually look at the problem.

All an eruption hematoma is; is a bruise of the gum where the childs tooth has broken through. Like any bruise it will hurt, and look ugly. However, it will go away on its on.

Give her something cold to chew on it will help.

Also, if it is bothering her try giving her some tylenol, and using some numbing medicine on the gum.
