Hi J.,
I had the same problem after my daughter -- along with some other problems. When she was about 6 months old my Dr. made me stop nursing and change birthcontrole, it fixed everything. It was related to hormones being all messed-up.
I wanted to ask some advise regarding a problem I am having with my hair falling out. It seems to have gotten worse since Ive had my children. When I shower in the mornings it comes out in fist fulls! Afterwards its comes out in mass amounts in my brush and when I blow dry my hair. There is hair EVERYWHERE in my bathroom! Its terrible and really starting to gross my husband out. I have long, dark, thick hair, and I shed like a dog! I have to wash the rug outside my shower door every other day because it gets so full of hair.
Has anyone had this problem and figured out what the problem was? Or found anything to help? Thanks!
Hi J.,

I had this happen with both of my children after I had them, and just like you I have long, dark hair and my husband got so tired of finding it everywhere. But I promise it does stop and it does regrow. My youngest is now almost a year old and I think I have stopped losing it for the most part and it's growing back. I have found that for me it helps to cut it shorter after I stop losing it and have it blended together to cover the fact that I had lost so much of it. Good luck, but know that others have been there too.
Probably from STRESS... I would let your doctor know!
Hi J.,
I am a hair stylist and know about losing hair from having kids. Most likely, you are experiencing post-partum alopecia; hair loss after pregnancy. When you are pregnant, the normal shedding and regrowth of our hair is at a "stand still." That's why most women say their hair seems so thick while pregnant. What hair you would be shedding not pregnant, while pregnant, has no place to go. Therefore, usually after 4-7 months of giving birth,(when your hormones are starting a more regular pattern) the hair finally starts to shed. Women with darker and thicker hair, obviously, will shed more. Also, the amount of children you've had, and the amount of time you've had them in, plays a big role in shedding. If you are nursing or have nursed, it may take longer for the shedding to stop/start. Nursing tends to prolong the normality of our hormones, therefore it will have an effect on shedding.
I wouldn't worry about it. It will eventually stop and resume to normal. The best thing you can do is keep it healthy, brush it a lot, and have it cut on a regular basis. If it continues and you notice any other side effects, I would then consult a dermatologist...as of now, I think you're just experiencing what we all go through.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi J.,
Have you had your thyroid checked. I have hypothyoidism since birth. That is one of the major side effects when your levels are not right. I have lost so much hair due to this problem. My doctor also told me that child birth can cause hairloss. Is there anyone in your family that has had the same problem in the past.
There are many things that can cause this and you should mention this to your doctor.
I know from experience how upsetting this can be. I used to have lots of hair. I am not bald or anything, but I do have much thinner hair.
I have ruined two sweepers from my hair loss. It burned up the motors. My hair was everywhere and it was upsetting me and everyone around me. It would even end up in peoples food that I didn't even cook for.
Good luck and try to find out what it causing this. If your lucky it is something simple that can be fixed.
Hi J.,
I had the problem after the birth of my son. It was homrones regulating them selves. I have found upping your intake of folic acid really helps. Good luck,
