I totally agree - that stuff is mushy soup!

It might not be totally consolidating the cooking, but foodnetwork.com has a lot of non-creamy soup variations.
Hi there, Mamas! My hubby and I are hosting Thanksgiving this year, and in the past, at my aunt's house, we've always had two green bean dishes, one casserole and one just green beans. The reason for this is because several of us (including hubby and me) HATE the casserole with the cream of mushroom soup and the fried onions. Yuck! LOL Anyway, we'll have a three year old and a two month old to look after, so we want to consolidate the cooking as much as possible. Do any of you lovely mamas have a recipe for a green bean casserole that isn't the "cream of" version? I'd like to just go with one casserole that everyone likes. Yes, I thought about just doing the plain green beans, but for reasons unfathomable to myself, that won't work with my family, lol. Please help! =) Thanks in advance!

I don't have one off-hand, but my suggestion is to go to allrecipes.com and see what you can find. I absolutely LOVE the food I have tried off of there, and after putting "green bean casserole" in their search engine, a ton of different recipes came up! Way to get a head start on Thanksgiving!!! :)
P.S. Just thought about a green bean dish I made last Thanksgiving. We threw green beans and cherry tomatoes on a baking sheet covered them in oil and italian dressing and cooked them at 350 degrees until the tomatoes popped. Everyone loved them and said they liked the change from traditional green bean casserole!
My favorite is green beans, cream of celery, and hamburger with tater tots and cheese on top! I might have to make that tonight!
yeah...hate to say it but if they are that gung ho about the green bean casserole, a "substitute" might as well be regular old green beans. (i am of the "love it" camp, so i know of which i speak lol) can you ask someone else to make it, since you are hosting and have two small children...
Green bean casserole lovers only want it one way, not with golden mushroom or any other substitute. It is NOT green bean casserole if not made according to the recipe. If you truly just don't want to make it for your guests then by all means have someone else bring it.
Can of quality green beans, not store brand
Can of Cream of Mushroom soup, not store brand, they taste flat and yucky
Mix together, and top with fried onions, bake to heat throughly, maybe 15 - 20 minutes...
Depending on the serving dish you are going to use you can go up to two cans or more.
I do not have a casserole recipe for you, we always have to do the "cream of" ones on the back of the French's crispy onions for my BIL's brother on Thanksgiving...but no one likes it except for him (it's his 1 favorite dish so we have to make it) so we always make a separate Green Bean dish for the rest of us...steamed fresh green beans, tossed in 2-3 slices diced bacon and grease, add salt...Yummy!
