Sauteed green beans in crunchy bacon and toasted almonds. SOOOOOO good.
Corn casserole
Mmmmmm.... :-)
Hi Mamas,
I'm looking for some inspiration for veggies this year. What are you making?
TIA!
Thanks everyone! I guess I go overboard on the veggies. I'm already doing green beans with onion and bacon and collard greens (along with potatoes) and felt like we need another one. I usually do carrots sauteed in butter with dill but my family is not big on them. I might do spinach gratin depending on how much time I have. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!
Oooo Angeles, those are great ideas!

Wow, Carrie, way to be a downer.
Okay...veggies. I'm doing sweet potatoes, yummy (fresh, not canned yams), green bean casserole with fresh beans, homemade soup, and Funions ;) hee hee...mashed potatoes...cranberry sauce (okay, that's a fruit, but it's still fresh and yummy...) and my MIL is bringing a casserole. (???) I am giggling a bit inside. I have no idea which one, but they're all good.
And to answer Carrie's question, I celebrate Thanksgiving because I can. I can be thankful for all God has given me and all the ways He has blessed my life and my family, and we can sit down and eat an awesome meal to celebrate that, and it has nothing to do with how one ethnic group treated another. I mean, look at what King Herod was doing on Christmas, but THAT'S not why I celebrate Christmas, either. Don't be so ridiculous. Oh, and BTW? I'm fairly Native.
Sweet Potato Crunch..... ask me and I might tell ya......... ;)
We go with the old standards; green bean casserole, corn, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, etc, etc.
I missed what Carrie said too! Dang I go to bed at 8!!!!!!!
Usual stuff: dressing, potato salad, cranberry sauce! Totally traditional! DON'T MESS WITH PERFECTION!

Carbs---Mashed potatoes and stuffing
So I missed what Carrie said. Sounds like it was quite a doozey!
I am not hosting Thanksgiving this year so I am in charge of bringing pumpkin bars. I am excited to show up to someone else's hard work and labor of love. But a tad bit sad not to have all my traditional foods. I will make some of them on another day...turkey and all. Ohhhh, I love Thanksgiving leftovers.
My favorite website is allrecipes.com. I have found some of my favorite meals there.
As for our usual sides, I make homemade green beans with sautéed yellow onions and crumbled bacon. I do a sweet potato bake or a butternut squash with butter drizzled over the top and sprinkled with salt and pepper. I love mashed potatoes with turkey gravy. Steamed carrots with butter, salt and pepper and dill is yummy! I usually have a raspberry jello, with raspberries in it. Then a mixture of sour cream and marshmallows spread over the top. Sounds strange...but it gets oohs and ahhhs every time..and requests.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
We will have mashed sweet potatoes, baked squash and brussels sprouts.
Here is the sprouts recipe:

I used yummly.com and martha stewart for recipes, which look good but are not elaborate. Green beans, carrots and an appetizer are what i am bringing.
