Our daughter is just about 6 and really loves "real" movies. That would include:

Soul Surfer
Letters to God
Dophin Tale

She also enjoys:
Free Willy, Black Stalion, Santa Paws, and yes Wizard of Oz. We usually sit with them as we watch the movies for prime times to interject.
Enjoy.

I know they aren't about "people" but my kids like all of the movies about puppies (Air Buddies movies etc). They also liked Jumanji, Matilda, & Parent Trap as mentioned below. We recently watched the Neverending Story with our 5 and 8 year old daughters and they both liked it.
