Hello Moms,

I just met a new mom and joined a playgroup that rotates houses. Lunch is served by host. One girl is allergic to DAIRY, PEANUTS, and GLUTEN~!!!!

Please send me some tried and true (preferably easy/kid friendly recipes! (I would prefer recipes over sites.......)

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My cousin's 4 yo daughter has the same allergies!! As long as you stick with fruits, veggies, and meats you'll be set. You do have to watch out for some pre-made spices though (i.e. Lawry's Season Salt as they have added gluten) so stick with basic dried spices (parsley, rosemarry, basil, etc) and salt and pepper.
For snack ideas, remember that most of the Chex cereals are gluten free and you can go to www.chex.com for some additional gluten free recipe's (substitute a little oil for butter/margarine and leave out any peanuts). Good Luck!

Here is an easy treat that even my kids love:

Raw Cinnamon-Sunflower Truffles

You'll need a food processor to make these. I found that these truffles are even better on the second day; if they last that long!

2 cups raw sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon sea salt
1 cup pitted dates
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons dark agave nectar or maple syrup

unsweetened shredded coconut

Place the sunflower seeds, cinnamon, and sea salt into a food processor fitted with the "s" blade. Process until seeds are very finely ground. It only takes a minute or so.

Then add the pitted dates and olive oil. Process again until combined and sticky. Only add the agave or maple syrup if need be. Your dates may be moist enough and you might not need extra sweetener. Check to see if you can form a truffle by rolling some of the mixture in your hands. If it falls apart then add the sweetener and process again.

Scoop out the sunflower mixture by the large spoonful and roll into balls. Then roll in shredded coconut. Store in the fridge for up to 10 days. Source: www.NourishingMeals.com

You might consider asking the mom what recipes she recommends. Or, if its really going to be a problem, ask the mom to pack her a lunch. As a mom with a peanut allergy kid, I'd rather pack a lunch & know its safe, then worry that another mom wasn't sure what to do and might accidentally harm my child....

You could do scrambled eggs (with soy cheese?) with oatmeal & fruit (just check the package--you might have to buy the "fancy" oatmeal, like from Bobs Red Mill, to make sure there's no cross-contamination).

You can also get brown rice noodles (spaghetti, etc.) for spaghetti from Hodgsons Mill (www.hodgsonmill.com), GF baking mixes from Bobs Red Mill (www.bobsredmill.com), and Trader Joes carries GF mixes & other stuff (probably has brown rice pasta; www.traderjoes.com)

There is now soy yogurt and coconut milk yogurt available at Whole Foods-type stores and probably Trader Joes (I don't know about TJs for sure though).

My children are allergic to certain foods and I would never expect another parent to have to make food for my children... nor would I trust them to do it correctly. Please talk to the mom and ask her what she would like you to do. I know that is what I would want someone to do for me. If she is not cooperative, I agree with another post that fruits and veggies and meats are your best choices.

If it were my child with allergies, I would not expect the host to prepare a special lunch. I would pack a lunch.

My fav is stir fry. I use long grain brown rice. First I cook the ricethen plut it in a frying pan with olive oil then i put veggies in it. I uasually buy the frozen stir fry veggies Then for spices I use garlic powder, oregano parsley rosemary. I use a couple tablespoons of olive oil its prolly more like 1/4 cup. You can also dice up cooked chicken breast in it. They also make gluten free noodles like rice noodles or quinoa noodles. Eggs are another option, any kind of meat or veggie or fruit. It sounds like she is on the GFCF diet wich we tried in the past, but its hard. Good luck.

As a parent of a highly allergic child (peanuts), I would NEVER trust someone outside of my immediate family to prepare a meal for her (plus, one close friend who's daughter has the same allergy). Talk to the mom, see what their guidelines are, or if she would prefer to provide lunch for them (I would, and most parents of highly allergic children seem to also). Having a child allergic to three things that are in everything, I would think that the mother would not expect other people to follow the restrictions 100% (it's hard enough with just one limitation!)

I saw someone recommending Trader Joe's as a good place to go for food allergies -- use caution! In our research, we have discovered that they don't necessarily bring over the cross-contamination labeling (the wonderful "may contain traces of ______) when they repackage the foods in to their packaging.

honestly i think the mom should bring her daughters food-i dont think its right or fair to anyone to have to go thru this kind of stress for a playdate.this way the mom makes sure the child gets the right foods.

My son is allergic to tomatoes, and is lactose intolerant (and I am being tested to see if I am allergic to gluten) but I go to this lady's website and she has different things to make and stuff like that.

Oh and Trader Joe's is a good place to go for food allergies!! The brown rice noodles there are so yummy (even though they don't look like it when you are cooking them!!)
