I love to color! I have a bunch of adult coloring books as do many of my artsy friends. Wine, chocolates or a gift card would all be things I would like. Have fun!
I have been invited to a ladies only cocktail party that is also a gift exchange. The theme is Favorite Things and I am to go buy three identical things (something that is one of my favorite things in life) for the party for $15 or less. I don't know what the game is exactly but I guess we all go home with 3 gifts. Anyway, I don't know the hostess very well yet but it'll be fun to get to know her and her friends. I enjoy art and I was thinking of getting three of those really cool detailed adult coloring books. But I don't know if other adults would really be interested. If you were going to a gift exchange would you like this as a gift? Or shall I go with something I know everyone likes such as 3 bottles of wine. Let me know your opinion. thanks!

This sounds fun. It's not going to be something every other person has tried, but it sounds like that's the point - introducing each other to something new.
I think the adult coloring books are really cool and I would like to receive one. Many people will bring lotion, candles and such and since everyone goes home with 3 gifts, I think something different is nice.
I like your idea. It's something different. Not everyone will love it, but that's OK. It's unique, and some people will think it's great! Have fun!
I think your idea is cool, and fits the them of introducing people to *your* favorite things, which they might try out and enjoy for the first time! Great idea, go with it!
The coloring books are a great idea! Go with that!!
I like the colouring book idea. They are very popular right now, and even of the recipient wasn't into that sort of thing it would be easy to regift. Of course you can't go wrong with wine, but it might be a boring gift exchange if everyone just exchanges wine.

If you love wine, do that. If you love art, why not the coloring books? I bought one for myself, with pre-sharpened colored pencils. I keep the pencils in my purse and the book in my car and I color when I am waiting on my kids.
Whatever you do, please do NOT do candles or scented lotions. I hate those things and every party, someone always has those. Those are VERY personal items in my opinion. Not a "generic" gift AT ALL. Yuck.
I would love to know where you can get those coloring books for under $10 a piece though? All the ones I've seen *start* around $10 and go up from there...
Or maybe I misunderstand the price limit. Is it $15 per item, or 3 items for under $15 total?
i think the coloring books are a great idea. i'd probably do something like pretty writing journals, or real ink pens.
the whole point of this sort of thing is to get to know the others, and i think this is a really fun and creative way of doing it. don't go generic- the point is less about finding broadly acceptable gifts, and more about letting new friends get a glimpse of the real you, and vice versa. since art is your thing, and adult coloring books are the new rage, i think your plan is kind of brilliant.

I love a great bottle of wine but I'd also love one if the adult coloring books!
I'm sure that one if my soon to be gifts is a coloring set from my daughter.
I can see chilling out while coloring!!
I would go with something you have tried/used/discovered that you love. Like something you told your friends about - it could be your favorite hand lotion, a great book, a gift card to your favorite store, favorite wine, etc. If you have enjoyed the coloring books for adults, by all means, that sounds like a really cool gift. I think the point is to share something you've discovered that you enjoyed. Sounds good to me and sounds fun :)
These things can be tough to get right.
I'd get 3 small hens-and-chicks plants - they are easy to grow.
I'd be thrilled to get a plant for a gift.

I want to know how this game is played. Sounds fun.
Please come back and give the details and rules. I entertain a lot and the usual White Elephant Steal or the Left Right game is the only one I have facilitated.
To answer your question, I am too busy for the art.
I would take three small cactus/cacti in nice planters. They are good for the kitchen window sill, office desk, or patio.
The coloring books are a great idea and they look like fun! Other ideas might be some warm and cozy fuzzy slipper socks, pretty battery operated glow candles (no soot or fragrance), herb growing kits. I also like the little lucky bamboo plants. They usually come in pretty little planters. I gave my brother a small one years ago and it has grown lush and full. Sounds like a great party - have fun!
First off, *I* don't like wine and I hate going to the gift exchange parties where 80% of the gifts are alcohol, even tho you said its a "cocktail" party. It's like assuming everyone loves Starbucks, I don't like them either. LOL
I have coloring books so I think that would be a fun idea. Good luck.
I know a lot of women who love those coloring books. Wine is always a great choice too. (I figure if it's a cocktail party, likely these women do drink.) Scented stuff, not so much as some people have sensitivities to certain odors/chemical smells. When I go to something like this, if I receive something that doesn't work for me, I just smile, say thanks, and pass it along later to someone else who I know would like it.
I know a lot of women who enjoy those coloring books. Go for it!
Coloring book -- no -- wine maybe. Some people do not drink. I think maybe earrings, a softly scented body wash/lotion set, nice candies or cookies, books to read, nail polish or mani/pedi set to do your own nails, slippers with gift receipt ( may be wrong size), fuzzy socks, gloves.
Personally, I like your idea but the wine would probably be more accepted by the masses.
I downloaded a few coloring pages last week so I could color with the grand kids but it not be a boring kiddo picture. I think the coloring books would be fun. I imagine you'll get to pass gifts around and get 3 gifts out of all the gifts there.
