I know with regular ink if you put hairspray on it and let it sit for a minute or two then wash it like normal the ink comes out. I don't know if it works with marker as well but it might be worth a shot.
I recently purchased new pants for my son. I sent him to school in tan corduroys and he came home with red marker all over them. I have tried Shout and washing them in cold water with oxy clean... then I made a paste with oxy clean and let it sit overnight and washed them again in cold water, which usually works but to no avail.. the marker is still there. Any idea how to get this out? Will hairspray work?

Try Amodex. I got a little bottle at Office Depot. It's near the checkout lanes. My son colored Sharpie on our couch fabric, and I looked up on Sharpie's website how to get it out, and they recommended it. It gets pen, marker, etc. out of fabric. A friend's son colored ink on leather fabric and it got it out. Sometimes it takes a few times of working on it, but it has always worked for us.
Hi S.,
Aren't boys fun?? There is a product you can find at Walmart in the paint department. It is called goo-gone and it is about 4 dollars. Spray it on the pants and leave overnight then wash normally. This stuff really works. Last year my eldest son left a green crayon in his jeans which were dried. It got out the melted crayon from all the clothes including a cotton sweater. Now I am never without it in my laundry room it takes out all greasy stains, grass stains and chewing gum. Need I say more?
Good Luck,
L.
you might try nail polish remover or peroxide
Try rubbing alchohol. This usually works for us when it is the first line of attack. I am not sure if it will work as well in your situation due to the fact that other chemicals have been tried already and may have altered the material.
Good Luck
Try using alcohol on it. Put it on there and rub it in and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. Then use a pre-treater on it and wash it. I'm not sure if it will work since you already washed the pants, but this always works for me in getting marker stains out of my daughter's clothes.
I have to tell you, my Mom has handed a secret on to me! Mary Ellens Set in Stain Remover from JoAnn Fabrics has removed everything from GREASE, to pen, marker and blood. They have 1 for white fabrics and one for colors. Sometimes you don't even need to scrub... Lifesaver!!!!!!! OR you can always try starting off with hairspray or rubbing alcohol. The alcohol in either along with a scrub brush can do wonders with pen and marker as well.
You can try Totally Toddler spray, I use it on everything and have gotten some pretty good stains out that I thought wouldn't. I think you can only get it at Babies R Us. I would spray it, and let it sit and even put some in the washing machine with the detergent. You may even have to wash them more than once but it is worth a try. I have even gotten red jello out of clothes with this stuff.
I just used a Shaklee product called Basic I to get Sharpie permanent marker out of my 1 year old daughter's overalls. I tried washing with some other stain remover products and Oxyclean first. They didn't work so I just put Basic I on, rubbed a little and let it sit for a LONG time...about 10 days. Every 3 days or so I'd add a little more Basic I. I could tell the stain was fading. By about the 10th day I couldn't see the stain any more. I washed them and now they're fine. If you live near Cary I'd be happy to give you some to try. Otherwise, send me an email and I can order some for you and have it shipped to your home.
My hubby works at a printing company and I have used hairspray to get out ink and it has worked. I have also heard to soak the stain in Dawn dish soap. Never tried it but couldn't hurt.
When all else fails..
WD-40 or Brake Cleaner (in a spray can)!
