My bf has 2 children that he sees every other weekend. He is amazing with them when he has them, but I know he doesnt feel like a good dad, or the best father since 1. He left them when he left their mother & 2. He only sees them part time. He spends the entire weekend focused on them and things they enjoy, monetarily there isnt a better provider (he still send the same amount of money each month to maintain their house/mortgage/bills etc NOT just child support) I want to get him something from the boys but not really sure how to go about it. Any ideas would be great, especially ones that dont stress "To the Best dad" etc. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

He came home Thursday after golfing excited about a pair of golf shoes he saw. Soooo I decided what a better gift!!! I ordered them Friday and got them this morning in the mail. I also found a really nice card that is so appropriate for our situation. I can't wait to give it to him, I know he'll be very pleased!

How old are the kids?
If they don't yet write... perhaps you can, write a poem, that they dictate to you (it doesn't have to be all rhyming or professional), but just about their Dad and how they feel or like about him or appreciate him for or how they make them feel, happy etc.

Then, either hand write it on paper or print it out from the computer, and frame it.
It will be original, one of a kind, and from their heart.
Priceless.

all the best,
Susan

My son's father (my H) lives with us... and he can't stand spending more than an hour in our son's company. We see him MAYBE 5-10 hours a week max (meaning he's home that much, but not engaged... mostly he's locked in his office or storming about), and it's stressful most of the time, although there are a few good times here and there.

I wish your bf knew just how important feeling WANTED, like he does for his kids, is.

Hello, Remember that he is a full-time dad with part-time visitation. I would do for him anything you would do for a dad who has full custody. He needs to know that he is just as important whether he is able to see them everyday or every other weekend. My youngest son is living 1 1/2 hrs. away from his daughter and step-son. The ex-girlfriend took the car, so he isn't able to just drive to see the children. She brought them to him over Memorial Day and he was able to have them for 4 days. He is on what is called Miner's vacation (lay off). He was so excited to see them. He is not only a great father to his baby girl, but to his step-son as well. That is HIS boy. We were fortunate enough to see him with his family at Christmas time and I was very proud of the dad he is. I sent him a card for Father's Day because I am sure that the ex won't think of it. He has part-time access to his kids, but he is a full time loving father to them.
Good luck with your precious family.

How old are the kids? Let them make him something - my DH is a great dad - he wants to leave a better memory for his kids than his dad did.

I know that my hubby has a folder thing that he keeps cards they make and other small personal stuff the kids have made. If they are little they can make a chocolate pie with the instance stuff and you could take some pics of them doing it. Or something your BF likes - I know that my DH likes stuff the kids have made him the best - that and my daughter would always want to get him a new pocket knife - some men use them some dont.

Just my 2 cents :)

Think of all of the miserable, abusive, cold uncaring dads out there! To his boys, your boyfriend IS "the BEST DAD!" Your post confuses me. Lots of dads that live with their kids 24/7 barely glance at them from day to day. Don't discount what he does, even if it IS every other weekend.
Yes, he left their mother, but he will always be their dad.

I'd get him a treat that is something he likes to do with the boys when he has them. Like an activity. Whatever they like to do--bowling, golfing, etc. Get a gift card. And don't forget to make sure the kids get time to make/buy him a special card!

Have the boys make him a pictuyre or something that tey can create out of clay! You can get it at any hobby store and then they can paint it too. Kids love to do things like that and he would cherish it forever!!! Then take him to dinner or ice cream by the park or riverway! simple and sweet lets him still be recoginzed for all that he IS doing. :)

Get him something that he enjoys like a video game (maybe something they can play together) or sports' equipment. Or plan a fun trip for them to Disneyland or Sea World. Just remember that it's the thought that counts.

Good luck.

What about tickets to a pro ball game for all of them to go to? That way it allows them to share an experience and still celebrate their dad.
