Apples to Apples kids edition.
It's fun for everyone, and easy. My husband and I laugh and laugh. :-)
Need a family gift idea. Gift is for a Dad, Mom, 8 yr old boy, 7 yr old girl and 4 1/2 yr old boy. Does anyone know of any games (like Pictionary, Taboo, etc.) that could be played (and enjoyed) by the whole family? Don't want the youngest to be left out of games that are over his head and don't want the older kids to be bored out of their minds. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!!!

Wildcraft - learning about herbs. Fun as a game - and learning at the same time.
Good luck! (it's on sale now, too!)

Uno (I'd have to say our favorite version is Uno Spin)
yatzee!! good for learning math!!
How about a charades type game?
We bought this one last year when our kids were 6 and 3. It's still a favorite. It's not really a board game. Hubby and I hide the monkey and they go looking. The sticks signify if they are close to finding the monkey. It's called Hide and Seek Safari. It's fun indoors or outside. http://www.amazon.com/Hide-And-Seek-Safari-Monkey/dp/B000...
Apples to Apples Jr or Disney
Catan kids .
get them makedo. As a family we have built a one room house, added an addition then a second story.
It's basically hinges and fasteners used with things around the house. and can be reused. No batteries, green and only limited by imagination - my kind of toy =). You can see samples in youtube of what people have created. Were giving every household in our family one for Christmas.
Feed the Kitty - a real fun game & not a real long game, but I have a 14 yr old & her & her friend who love to play it w/out 9 yr old daughter. (I think we've had it since Haley was about 4 or so, which btw is the recommeded age).
I agree with Apples to Apples kids, although it might require some reading. Zingo is fun for all ages and does not require reading.
When our kids were younger we also played games as teams so the younger one had a helper.
Headbandz is a lot of fun! It's kind of like a game of 20 questions.....Everyone picks a card....the cards have pictures on them. You don't look at your own card, but place it in a plastic headband you wear facing outward so everyone else can see it and then you have to ask questions to guess what you are. We've had a lot of laughs with this one!!
Apples to apples kids it so much fun. We played it a few weeks ago with two grandma's one in her 70's and on in her 60's and me my husband our boys 13 and 10 and our nieces 11 and 9. It's so much fun. You might have to help the youngest some but he will probably enjoy it still!
Sorry is a good game for all ages. The 4 1/2 year old can participate with just a little bit of help.
Operation?
Trouble
Hungry Hungry Hippo
The Fishing game
Most of the games are good for aults
We have the Uno spin and the only one who doesn't get it is my 2 yr old :) but we have been playing with my son since he was 4. Shutes and ladders is a good one. Don't Wake Daddy is also a good one. I agree Sorry is fun and even if the 4 yr old is having trouble it's not a game where the cards need to be kept secret so he can be helped. One last one we play and live is trouble.
I really don't think you can go wrong.. All the kid games are fun even for adults.
Twister
I hate Uno.
Zombie Dice. Not scary, easy to learn.
Train Dominoes
Yahtzee
Jigsaw Puzzles
Yahtzee, Sorry, Uno and Life would all work. The youngest will need a bit of help, but should be able to do them all.
Also, I am a Discovery Toys consultant and we have several great board games for the whole family.
Games on the Go is one of our hottest sellers this year (and it's only $8)! It's a deck of 50 cards with fun ideas for different trivia, memory, search & find games and much much more. It's great for playing at home, but also for taking in the car, to restaurants, doctor's waiting rooms and more. Check it out here: http://www.discoverytoys.com/PUBLICSTORE/stores/karenchao...
Another super popular one this year is Race to the Treasure. This is a cooperative game, so everyone works together and you either all win or all lose together. The goal is to create a path to the treasure box, collecting keys along the way, without letting the ogre beat you to the finish. http://www.discoverytoys.com/PUBLICSTORE/stores/karenchao...
Willy's Wiggly Web is also a lot of fun. You put up a web (the game comes with 50 and replacements are available) and arrange different bugs throughout the web, with a spider in the middle. Using the scissors provided, take turns cutting the bugs loose from the web without letting the spider fall. http://www.discoverytoys.com/PUBLICSTORE/stores/karenchao...
Wiz Kidz is one of my absolute favorites. You need to be able to read though so the youngest might not be ready for this one yet. It's a game where you match a category card to a letter card, and try to think of a word (or words) that start with that letter (for example: TV shows, starting with the letter S). Different point values are assigned to each letter card, so you can play for points if you want to. http://www.discoverytoys.com/PUBLICSTORE/stores/karenchao...
If you want an active game, check out Flip Flop Faces. It's a beanbag toss game, where you toss beanbags into different cups. Get extra points for getting the cup to flip over, or for getting the matching beanbag into the right cup. Works well inside or outside! http://www.discoverytoys.com/PUBLICSTORE/stores/karenchao...
Thanks so much! See everything we have available at http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/karenchao
We just got Uno for my 6 year old (yesterday was his b-day) and my daughter who just turned 4 was doing pretty good keeping up last night while we played. She needed a little help, but could totally understand the concept as long as someone helped her. I vote Uno!
My kids also like Sorry! My daughter gets a little bored as it takes longer to play, but she can totally understand the rules.
How about spoons?
Actually, with Apples to Apples, you don't even need to read! lol My bonus kid is 16, but mentally she is 5, and can't read. The way the game is set up, she just "picks" one of her cards to play, doesn't even have to "know" what it is. Sometimes her card is picked and she actually gets a turn and "wins". So its a really good family game, all our kids like to play it, the other kids are 13 and 10. We also play it when friends come over. Good luck!
