It sounds like he is only teething, but if you are worried, take him to a walk in clinic. You usually get faster service there than at the hospital.
Good luck!
My 23 month old has been really whiny the past week and monday he started to throw up. He has thrown up again twice today and has had a low grade fever (99.5). He has also started drooling alot. I tried to get him in to see the doctor but after waiting for so long I had to leave to take m husband to work. My son has been asleep for most of the day, and my husband and I are worried should we go ahead and take him to the ER or just wait it out. My husband is a hypocaundraic already, and my son has almost always had 'something' wrong. I tried to wait it out before and he ended up in the hospital. We have had two stays so far. any advice?
He doctor's office called back and sent me to the ER. He has an ear infection combined with a cold. Sent me home with some prescriptions. I am hoping that he will start to feel better soon. Thank you for the concern.

I know strep is going around, his throat may be sore, that may be why he is drooling. OR, he could be teething, that will cause a temp and vomiting. I would definitley get it checked out though.
Sounds like teeth. Have you checked?
my son did that too, i found out he had acid reflucks,, he was put on meds..does he not see a peds doc..call asheville peds and see what the nurses think, they will help day or night if you need anything....###-###-####....my son sees garbee...and i went there when i was baby til high school, they are the best doc..that way your mind will be at easy, plus he could be teething, my son is 25 monts and his starting to put everything in his mouth again and i thought we were done with that...
It could be something as minor as cutting teeth but I have learned with my daughter it is alway better to follow your instincts if you are worried I would go to the ER.
Can you call your doctor's after hours service to see if the doctor will call you to give you advice? If not, then if he cant get his fever to stay down, or looks dehydrated, take him to the er. I would definetly take him to the doctor tomorrow if he isnt better.
The most important thing when a child is throwing up is to be sure they do not get dehydrated, as this can be very dangerous in a child. Look for dry mucous membranes (can check nose and mouth) also something called skin tenting. It's kind of hard to describe, your doctor can probably do a better job. When you pinch up the skin on the back of the hand, it should fall right back into place. If it takes longer than normal to appear normal, this can be a sign of dehydration. You can't be too careful! Most stomach bugs (diarrhea, vomiting) are self-limiting and only require supportive care.
J.,
I have a 3 year old son and he is prone to having seizures if his temperature rises too quickly so believe me when I say, I know that anytime your child gets a little sick, you begin somewhat of a panic. Many times I have taken my child to the doctor for a low grade fever and fussiness and they just tell me he has a virus and there is nothing I can do but give him over-the-counter medicine and wait it out. My guess is that your sons molars are coming through and he's simply teething. If I were you, I would give him Tylenol for the fever and pain and if he doesn't look like he's feeling better or if your "maternal instinct" begins to tell you that something is wrong, (whichever comes first) take him to the doctor.
I hope this helps!

Yeah, you don't have all of your teeth until you're about 3.5. He is most likely teething. Give him some Tylenol (which you should do any time he gets a fever anyway) and if it doesn't change within about 4 hours, or his symptoms worsen, then take him to the doctor. But look at his gums. Are they redder than normal? Does he stick his hands in his mouth? Drooling, diarhea, low grade fever, and whining are all normal symptoms of teething.
I take it you are a first time mom, lol. Well my advice is if there are ever any questions you have about your child then take him to the doctor. A good doctor will be patient will you and understanding that you are a first time mom. After all thats what he is paid to do. I am a mother of 2 and I still freak out about things on my youngest and am constantly calling the doctor on something new. (My oldest is a boy and youngest is a girl) As it was told to me by my child's doctor there is no such thing as too many questions and no such thing as dumb questions be cause this is our kids we are talking about. So I say if its worring you take him to the doctor and let them do what they get paid to do.
From your description it sounds like he is cutting a tooth. Around the age of 2-3 they start cutting their final 4 molars. If you are truely worried and feel that you need to see a doctor, if for nothing else than to put your mind to rest, make another appointment. You could also call and ask to speak to a nurse and they could give their opinion on whether or not they think you need to see a doctor. Good luck.
Don't know about the drooling. Might be because of the nausea. There is a stomach virus going around that is accompanied by a low grade fever. If it doesn't go away in a few days, he startst to act like a limp dishrag, or something obviously requiring emergency attention try to reschedule a sick visit with the doc.
My first thought is teething (2 yr molars). But with strep going around that's a thought too. If you can, look in the roof of his mouth. If you see small, dark red spots, that might be your sign. I too would keep him hydrated, just remember small sips of liquid. Try popcicles too, and apple sauce is always soothing too. And just a reminder - always go with your gut instinct. You know your child better than anyone. There is no comparison to a Mother's intuition. If you think you need to go to the doctor - go! Hope he's feeling better soon.
YOU NEED TO HAVE HIM LOOKED AT. MOST DR. OFFICES HAVE "BEFORE HOUR" CLINIC'S THAT OPEN VERY EARLY.
well if he is still throwing up and will not eat or drink much you will probably end up in the hospital with a dehydrated child. You may want to take him to one of those emergency care places, they can be cheaper than a hospital and generally can get you in as all patients are walk ins. If you don't feel comfortable with that I would consider taking him to the ER. If he is drinking and keeping down fluids then I would wait it out, but if not then he will need to be seen by a doctor.
