Snoring can be from many causes.
If the nose strips don't work and it is a nightly problem:
The most typical reason is sleep apnea.
Most medical doctors will send them for a sleep study test to see if they are getting enough oxygen, getting quality sleep, or what. Thing is, seems like their one remedy for that is a CPAP. Some people love it and it helps them sleep and breathe. About 75% of the hpeople can't get used to it and can't sleep with it.
They have something that a dentist can custom make that will gradually set your lower jaw forward and closed. It allows more air to flow and alleviates snoring and sleep apnea.
They do make cheaper ones that you custom make kind of and I don't know if it works. BUT, sleep apnea can cause real problems as it stresses the heart so much over time that you can literalluy die early from a heart attack in your 50s and early 60's (depending on your fitness).
Dr. Thornton in Dallas invented a mouth appliance called TAP. It is one of the most used ones. He does them for his patients and he teaches other dentists how to make and fit them. A sleep test (or even a modified sleep test) afterwards confirms that it is doing its job. Dr. T gives a free consultation and knows enough about the structure of the mouth and throat to be able to guess if this is going to work or not based on many factors. I'll bet you could call or write him to see if he knows a good and ethical dentist in your area. That cures the snoring. Insurance may or may not cover it (whereas it covers the CPAP). He charges $1200 for all visits, appliances, fitting/adjustments, sleep re-check. Dentists are not able to do the very thorough sleep test though to see if he has sleep apnea. He's listed under "Sleepwell Solutions."
