Hey fellow mommies. Well, I have less than four months until my 2nd daughter will be here and I am trying to figure out what double stroller to purchase. Any advice or suggestions and experience with your double stroller will be really appreciated - good or bad. There are a couple I have been thinking about. I cannot remember the names off the top of my head, but one is a Graco (and our infant seat is a Graco so it would fit) and the other, I think the company is Step something or like that. Anyways, side by side? Front back? What do you have and what are pros and cons about your stroller to look out for. I would like to spend no more than $200. Less would be great, especially if I can find a good used one. THank you for your help!

What can I do next?

I know my friend got a graco tandem and HATED it. She said it was very difficult to maneuver. The one she got that she adores escapes me, but I will get the name. I know it was in the higher price range but some baby/kid items are well worth the higher cost.

B.,
I have the Graco front/back model (can't remember the exact model name though). I used it for a little over a year. My "babies" are 18 months apart, so it was handy for trips to the mall and long walks when big sis wanted to ride. Graco has the one-hand/flick of the wrist button to fold the stroller down which is good. The bad thing, the stroller is awkward (because it's big). I had problems with the basket staying attached. Would I buy it again? yep. Did my kids use it? you betcha.

Hello!
We have the MacLaren Rally double, and are pretty happy with it. You don't have to worry about it being too wide, because it is made narrow enough to fit through doorways. Basically, anywhere a wheelchair has access, so does this stroller. My only complaints are: no cup holder, can seem flimsy with a lot of use, no tray for kids, and the seat covers slide down if you don't use the shoulder straps. I'm happy overall, but if I had to do it again would probaly go for the combi side-by-side twin (this has trays for both sides, and a place for a cup holder for mom). I had a tandem for a year and a half, and much prefer the side-by-side. However, if you are looking for tandem, Costco.com is selling the Combi for $150 (I think). Hope this helps!

Definitely go with a front to back and not a side by side double stroller. We have used our front to back several times at the zoo and other parks and it is much easier to maneuver through crowds. We have the Graco and it works great! I love all the storage underneath. Ours has a bassinet type seat in back so when my son was a newborn we could go on walks and I didn't have to worry about him slipping through where the feet are supposed to hang down. We got ours from a friend so ask around if any of your friends are done having kids and no longer need theirs.

I had a Graco and liked it fine - though my kids are old enough that my knowledge of strollers is probably null and void. What I did want to tell you is that my cousin had a side by side and she hated it - said it was awful trying to get through store aisles, etc . . . Mine was front/back, and I used it for years, even when I wasn't using both seats for kids, I used the back seat to carry bags when I shopped, etc . . .
(My first two kids are spaced about like yours will be, then I had another 26 months later)

Have fun!

The one I had was by Graco and it was a front back one, which I prefer over the side by side. The front back one is narrower and easier to go through doorways, aisles, etc., where with the side by side one is a lot wider. And, it's easy to fold up (I've done it a million times at Disneyland, etc. and rushing to pack up in the parking lot). That's my experience. I'd offer you mine (6 years old) but it's dusty. Here's a tip...put it on your register and maybe a family member or a group of friends will get it for you for your baby shower. That's how I got it! Good luck!

We have gone through 2 double strollers since my second was born 4 years ago(we get far more use out of them than the average person and the first one broke LOL). Both of them have been Sit-n-Stand models. My oldest is taller than average so when we went shopping for the double we had him sit in every single one we saw at numerous stores and he wasn't fitting in any of the styles that had a second proper seat. Then we found the sit-n-stand. At the time it was pretty much the only one on the market. Now there are quite a few on the market by several companies. Our new one we bought at Target. It's by Babytrend and is called the Sit N Stand LX model #7311. Think we bought it last year. My boys are 4 and almost 7 in a couple months. It's still really easy to stear, although if my oldest sits in the front it's finally getting impossible to control it LOL We go to Disneyland a couple times a month, it's been to several renaissance faires, the San Diego Comic Book Convention a number of times, a Star Wars convention in LA last year, Zoo a few times, Sea World, Legoland and on and on. We love it!! It's got good storage underneath as well and it doesn't get back heavy and tip over unless you've really hung too much off the back handles (we found out what too much was and trust me, most people won't try to put that much...we were at the convention) We looked at a couple other modle sit-n-stands when we were looking for our second and we really didn't like a lot of them, much smaller, but this one we love. We have yet to find anywhere we can't get around with it.

edit: also forgot to add, both my husband and I are pretty tall (5'9") and it's comfortable enough for us to push it, the handle bar isn't so low that we have to stoop like our old one as well as our single we had before.

This got to be a long post, sorry.

Hi there, I just got a Graco duo glider and i love it...it's easy to navigate and has a nice roomy storage area underneath. Got it at babies r us for $93 ( had a 15% off coupon). My sone is 2 and my daughter is 4 mo.s so i put her in the back seat ( she's in her car seat) . the stroller is an in line seating...didn't want the double wide, too hard to get in and out of places. I do have to say it was a little tricky to get her in at first but now we've got the hang of it...it's only because the car seat is really snug in there.

Hi, I don't usually respond to bulletin boards, but I strongly feel the stroller I have is one of the best in the market. The brand name is Phil & Teds double, the only thing is that it is a bit pricy. I got mine through ebay for $400 (brand new with all the attachments for a double, mud guards and front bar for a travel system). There were many things that I considered before finding this jewel: I didn't want a bulky, heavy, wide or awkward double stroller. Also, I wanted something that would accommodate my new born and my two year old comfortably and it could travel through tough terrain. The Phil & Teds does all this and more :) It is incredibly easy to maneuver, light weight, the front tire swivels, easy to store in my Passat. I had it for 1 1/2 years now and still one of the best purchases I've done in my life, well worth the price. It grows with your family! Check out their website and if you decide to get it do it on ebay (the best price around, trust me I shopped for months). Good luck!

Hi! I had to purchase a double stoller a few years ago and I too racked my brain..side by side or one behind the other. After much research from friends and family I decided on the Graco double stroller one behind the other. My kids have out grown the strollers but my sister had to purchase one recently and once again I found myself helping her look for one. We did lots of research online and from family and friends that had double strollers. She actually picked the upgraded newer version of the one I had years ago. It fits the infant Graco carseat (the carseat snaps into it) and my older nephew still fits perfect in it as well. She only paid $150.00 at Babies R Us for it. It is the Graco Duoglider Lx and it comes in a green plaid print. A nice print! It sells for about $110.00 at Babies R Us. Check it out online!

Hi B., I can certainly sympathize with your position and actaully own a business that was started when I found myself in your same situation. My company is called OC Travel Tykes and we are based in San Clemente. We do personal stroller consultations at no charge and also offer the option of renting a stroller for the day so you can actually test it out before you buy it! Buying a new stroller is a big decision and you don't want to end up with one that doesn't quite groove with your family and end up hating it. With the cost of strollers today it is a big investment and you don't want to go wrong. I definitely have my own opinions about double strollers and am in a fortunate position where I talk to moms everyday and get to learn even more from their personal experiences. I am also a mom of two myself so I personally put all of our strollers to the test. Anyway, if you would like any help as you continue your research do not hesitate to contact me for an appt to come down to our showroom so we can help you out. www.octraveltykes.com ###-###-####
Good luck and congrats on the new baby!!

I have been through every double stroller immaginable....I have twins. I loved the Graco duo glider until they got to about 18 mos and started pulling each others hair. Then we got the Twin Traveler McClaren (it's a $400 stroller that I found on Craigslist for $125). For your ages though, I totally recommend the Graco duoglider. Check out Craigslist...I have found excellent deals!

I have a Sit and Stand by Baby Trend. It is front to back and has a seat in front that can hold the infant car seat and then becomes a regular seat after the baby grows out of that. The back is a regular stroller seat that can convert to a bench seat or your older child can stand and hold on. It's a bit heavy and a little hard to steer but I did a lot of research and feel I made the best choice. There are not many double strollers that will hold and infant under 6 months..which we needed.

I have had the Graco Duoglider. I loved it. Then I had a third baby and I needed something for my oldest when he got tired of walking. I researched the sit and stand types of stollers. I got the Joovy. LOVE IT! MY KIDS LOVE IT! MY HUSBAND LOVES IT!. It is easy to use. I can get all three of my children on it. Check them out. Good Luck.

I LOVE my Graco Quattro Tour Duo Double Stroller. It was around $229, so I know it's a bit more expensive than you wanted to pay, but it is the best duo stroller out there and worth every penny. It is a front back stroller (side by sides are too hard to maneuver, especially through doors and aisles) and maneuver's marvelously. There is a lot of storage...I've done grocery shopping with mine. It is definitely a work horse. At least go to the store and try it out. I highly recommend it.

I have tried every double stroller out there (or at least it seems like it). I have done three side by side and four front to back (we have 5 kids and do child care and have done foster care). The absolute best double stroller is the Jeep side by side stroller. It has canopies and reclines enough for an infant and sits up enough for a big kid. With one heavy and one light kids it turns great and is easy to fold. The best is the price it is under $75 at Babies R Us.

One thing I took into consideration when buying a double stroller was taking it shopping. The isles in many stores are not wide at all, so a side by side stroller went straight to the bottom of my list. I chose a front/back stroller and that worked well for me. I used it for 4 years - even after my oldest was too big for it(extra room for shopping bags.)

B.,
I researched for months and still did not find the 'perfect' double stroller but I have the Sit and Stand which I really like if I have to use a double stroller. I really wanted a Phil and Ted's jog stroller but it's not (or wasn't) baby seat friendly. Try out as many as you can. The handling is totally different IMO. Good luck!

Hi there. I have twins and I LOVED my Combi twin savvy. You may have to buy an adapter for a graco carseat. This is a side by side stroller. The most wonderful features for me were the lightweight and compact aspects. The duoglider by graco, is HUGE and cumbersome. Hard to fold, lift and fit in a trunk. The thing I didnt like about the combi, was the storage was hard to get to. But they may have changed that by now. Sometimes you see them on craigsist used, otherwise new I think they are $300. The other drawback to any side by side is that the kids can fight. And if you have a 2 yr old, she may want to have her hands all over the new baby if she is right next to her. Front to back strollers downside I hear is that the kid in front gets kicked in the back, and the kid in back gets a poor view. Good luck!

We bit the bullet and bought a Phil & Ted (saved $100 by purchasing on eBay) It is hands down the best best baby-gear investment we've ever made. I have a 27 month old and 6 month old. I can steer it with one hand even with both babies and all the associated gear AND open the door into a store all by myself. Although it's expensive, used ones are very hard to come by on craigslist (tells you how much people love them!) and those that are listed go fast and usually around $300 so you can always sell it down the road once you're back to a single. I'd recommend checking one out in person and try loading/unloading your kids - it can be tricky but worth the ability to fit through any aisle in a store. This stroller actually takes up the same amount of floor-space as most singles and turns on a dime. Good luck!

I would go with the BOB Dualie, hands down! You can add the infant car seat adapter when your baby is really little then take it off when they are ready for the stroller. It is very compact and rides so smoothly! I would go with the Stroller Strides double because it comes with a handle bar console which have exercise ideas and tubing. Plus some free classes!!!
